      Right. But God's Name is YHWH. The Third Statement means to not carry God's Name in vain. It's not to not say it pointlessly. While we shouldn't say God's Name without purpose, that's not what the Third Statement is talking about

    • @lindajohnson4204
      @lindajohnson4204 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      It is not the "same" thing. It arose as a replacement interjection for the word "God", and if the person meant "God", to dishonor Him, they could easily enough say God. Words like "golly," "gee", etc, came to have their own lives as innocent interjections. God alone knows the heart, and what it intends, but most of the time, I assume the best. Not so much with j__z_, _because it always seems _to me_ to carry His name along, and abuse it. But it might be that someone has so grown up with that word that they don't hear blasphemy in it. I think I am sll the more sensitive about that word because i believe someone used it a lot, to try to desensitize me to irreverent talk about Jesus, as a sort of conditioning, which fit in with some other patterns to suggest that. But the other possibility is that she was brought up hearing that so much, and it didn't sound anymore irreverent to her than "gosh" does to me.
      When family members jumped down my throat, condemning me for saying "gosh" or "golly", whrn I was about 10, it had never occurred to me that they had anything to do with God. And I still believe in Jesus, but they seem to think that they are too grown-up to believe in Jesus. I escaped the legalistic non-denomination with faith in Jesus, but the non-denomination seems to have taken their child-faith with it.

      What is the difference between these two?
      - A person commits a crime in public wearing a mask.
      - The same person commits the same crime wearing a Navy uniform
      One is worse because not only was there a crime committed, but the criminal harmed the reputation of the Navy by misrepresenting it by his conduct.
      This was bad teaching. This video perpetuates a foolish misunderstanding of the commandment.
      This is what it means:
      Do not adorn yourself with God's holy reputation for personal gain. Do not commit evil in the name of God. Do not misrepresent God's character to the world by claiming to be a Christian while behaving contrary to Christ. Don't smear his "name" by being a church-going hypocrite.

    I'm 73 years old and I used to say this phrase A LOT not knowing it was offensive to God but now I know and even though there are times I automatically say it I have my daughter and grandchildren correcting me and pointing it out which I'm grateful for and my sister says whenever I catch myself saying out of a bad habit to include "I praise your name now and forever."

    • @mattk6719
      @mattk6719 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Respectfully elder,
      I do not believe it was offensive to God unless you intended for it to be so.
      The third commandment is not about speaking respectfully (although it is good to do so). The command to not "take God's name in vain" is commonly misinterpreted.
      To put it in other words:
      *Do not take* (accept, steal, adorn yourself with) *God's name* (his holy reputation or character) *in vain* (carelessly, lightly, for personal gain, or in a way that misrepresents God to others).
      I used to serve in the military. An example I used then was to the difference between if they committed a crime and if committed that same crime while wearing a military uniform. Both are crimes, but one is much worse because it smears the reputation of the service.
      When the psalmist wrote, "O My God" it was a sincere exclamation to God and is little different than how people say it today. But God knows our hearts.
      I believe your devotion to being a good example to your grandchildren is far more important to God than imagining he is offended by a minor habit of speech. I don't think our God is that petty.

      Can't find a biblical church within an hour. Sadly, there are MANY claiming to be born again, even getting baptized, but they continue to fornicate, get drunk, commit adultery (that includes divorce and remarriage) and have idolatry. We WERE sinning, but Jesus made the way for us to hate our past sins and live holy. The doctrine of demons of OSAS that you profess Christ but continue in sin is heavily promoted by pastors and they say God will allow you to be a drunkard and let Satan kill you, and then you will go to heaven because you were saved. Guess who said that? Jack Hibbs!
      I just did a video about a church that baptized a divorced and remarried couple, and they have many divorced and remarried couples, but God calls it an abomination in Luke 16:18. The divorce rate is highest in the Bible belt among those who claim to be Christians. I noticed she was wearing an engagement ring, so I would have asked her if she is fornicating and was she willing to follow Jesus completely. And if she truly gets born again, then she can't get married to an unbeliever. Jesus is coming very soon for His bride. Maranatha.

    Hearing someone speak His name in vain always hurts my heart (since I have come to believe and be born again, previously I used to use His name, as well) Just listening to Ray made my heart hurt, made this hard to watch, fortunately the condemnation didn’t get worse, I watched the whole thing. It’s hard to hear my family, who aren’t believers, use His name freely and derogatorily, sometimes they apologize to me, but I’m not the issue even if it does hurt my heart, like little daggers, every time ~ may the Lord bless and forgive us as we pray and forgive our enemies.

      It does mean a mild form of that.

    Lord, I ask for forgiveness for every time I’ve used your name in anger and for other commandments I’ve broken! Please put a guard over my mouth that I might not sin against you! Help me love you more every day! 💛🙏💛🕊️💛

    I was glad Katalina noted the difference between Christian and Catholic and wanted to be Born Again. The young man at least has a seed planted. The more I get into "The Evidence Study Bible" the more I understand what is required for people to be born again, it is an awesome Bible that brings together the KJV offers. I also appreciate that it also includes a lot more information as well as how to witness to others. I will be sharing this video with my family and friends as well so their eyes will be open too.

      Ray has a video why he won't lead them in a Sinner's Prayer, and I AGREE WITH RAY.

    Thank you Ray Comfort so much as as I'm hopeful ALL of us need to watch these videos. I'll admit how much I love video games given they're the entertainment I grew up with in my past yet still magnetize myself towards. God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit bless each and every one of ourselves and everyone that surrounds each of us unconditionally and with joy!!!!!! 🙏💓♥️💗💕🕊️👻😇👍🙌😊

    Thank you, Mr. Comfort for covering this. Romans 2:24 and Isaiah 52:5 explains this is a judgement. Very painful to hear when people use it. 😔
