    Just so you know, there was an firmware update this week, you can now switch screens without having to stop the video. It just keeps recording.

      @@keith-knittel If they yet manage to get rid of the horrible lag between recording and whats showed up on the screen with RockSteady enabled, I'm totally happy with it. ;)

    • @keith-knittel

      It probably has something to do with the computing power or the Osmo Action. It would be great if they could optimize RS to reduce the lag. Would be great to have an option to record with RS enabled, but preview the 'un stabilized' footage for no lag. I'd use that option all the time!

    I do wish the osmo action when you plug a rode video micro into the cynova official mic adapter... wish there was a dB and or audio boost settings like the gopro hero 6 and 7 and 8 and 9 were you can boost the dB of the audio whether it's a powered mic or non powered mic I noticed audio is super low on something as simple as filling outside in a quite place while doing gardening with my wife even during editing I boosted audio but still wasn't very loud wish there was more options like gain and everything for the mic

    Hello,
    Bought a few days ago an osmo action cam. After updating the firmware and take a look on the different settings i have some issues with the cam.
    1. After a full charge of the battery (first use) and playing a little bit with the settings, battery level goes realy fast down. The cam seems to drain also the battery while powered off.
    2. Voice control works a little bit strange. Stop recording doens't work properly. "Take photo" turns the LCD screen. I have to repeat the command the most of the time.
    3. I like to use the osmo for cycling trips. How i works with my old "drift action cam"? When mounted on my helmet, i turn the cam "on". The cam goes into standby mode during the whole ride (several hours). When i push the rec button (remote control, this cam doesn't have voice control) the cam start recording, pushing the stop button, it stops recording and goes into standby mode. Does the osmo works the same way? I tried, but...once the LCD goes off, the voice command doesn't react, i have to manualy push the rec button. With the cam mounted on my helmet... it's not practical during cycling.

      Hey there, this is very strange and I havent had this experience. Are there any firmware updates available? Great video - Thanks! I just ordered an OSMO Action Camera to use on our farming videos. If you have time - question ... One of the things I will do with this camera is via a magnetic mount, attach the camera to our tractors and implements. Lots of vibration and with respect to our square baler, a lot of hard jerks (for lack of a better word - you might look at one of our baling videos to see this... ). I was thinking I would want the rock steady to help smooth out the vibration, baler motion and just bumpy terrain. I’m not so sure after watching your camera mounted to a car dash filming the road ahead. Any recommendations for setting up this camera for our farming videos are much appreciated. Should I use rock steady? Thanks again?

    • @keith-knittel
      @keith-knittel  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey there JHJ Farm, this is a cool question! Checked our your videos, you need something much more aggressive than rock steady to smooth out the bumpy vibrations and jerks or the equipment. Rock steady is good for minor shakes, but for your application you're going to need a gimbal to smooth out those shakes, and maybe even then it wont be silky smooth footage. Rock steady wont hurt, it will help to a point - but if you're able to drive slower, use rock steady or a gimbal and work on steadying your camera and your filming techniques while farming/filming that will go a long way. You can also try to use Warp Stabilizer in Premiere Pro or After Effects, but again that will only help so much. The best way to get smoother footage is to smooth out the camera first and only rely on technology when all else fails. You have a very unique situation, please keep me updated on what you come up with! Thanks for asking such a great question and watching.

FYI - the guy that recommend the OSMO to me is farmer who lost his arms at around 2 years old. He does everything with his feet. I’m talking about driving big farm tractors and doing repairs, etc. He also drives a tractor trailer hauling corn from their farm. Unbelievable inspiring man. Checkout his channel, Harmless Farmer. Hey there, Tony. If you're shooting at 4K 60, you'll want your shutter to be around double your frame rate - so your ideal shutter would be about 1/120th. Any lower than that you'll get pretty blurry footage. Your camera typically wont let you lower the shutter as far as you can while shooting photos, while youre shooting video based on your what frame rate youre using. Thanks for watching and commenting !

It's not going to replace your lumix, but it's a great B cam! Or great camera for strapping it to something and filming stuff you wouldn't want to subject your lumix to! We Lost you buddy right at the moment you started marketing ND filters for Osmo Action. It is the WORST recommendation ever. The ROck Steady stab relies on sharp frames to detect objects so it can actually shift and stabilize accurately. As soon as the shutter speed drops to 1/60 or 1/30 and motion blur sets in Rock steady cannot work properly - that is why you start to see glitches in stab in low light footage. What you propose is to manually create the low light situation by screwing on the ND filter. You will get many stab glitches and artifacts in your footage this way. Bottomline - don’t use ND filters with action cams that rely on electronic stab to keep things steady!

    • @keith-knittel
      @keith-knittel  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey there Shura, I haven’t ran into the glitching rock steady footage situation you’ve described. I use ND filters when filming in bright situations to cut down the total amount of light to properly expose the image - I typically don’t use Nd filters while filming in dark environments. While using Nd filters and rock steady (on the boat for example) I didn’t run into any glitching and the rock steady was working pretty hard there hanging over the side of the boat. Can you make a video showing the glitching? I’m interested to see the glitching results you have gotten. Thanks for bringing the glitching to my attention though! I’ll see if I can find out more about this.

    • @sunlit777
      @sunlit777 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@keith-knittel just compare low light footage from osmo action with daylight one and see the difference in smoothness of movement. Look at how bright lights are sometimes jumping or jerking. Then you”ll understand what I am talking about. Then go to manual mode and shoot 1/30 shutter in sufficient light - you”ll find that you start to get glitches in stab just like in low light. Also take a look at how aggressively the auto exposure tries to keep high shutter speed at all costs raising iso to max even in medium lit environments. That is because rock steady (and all other electronic stabs) need sharp frames to properly evaluate objects movements.

    • @keith-knittel
      @keith-knittel  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I shoot using the 180 degree shutter angle - the lowest I would shoot is 1/50th, at 24fps. I’d recommend shooting in manual and not auto settings. I don’t turn my iso up over 400/800 in extreme cases. Try to keep the iso at 100/200 - if the situation is too dark, ND filters won’t matter here. If you’re using Nd filters and have to turn your iso up over 100, your ND filter is too strong and use a less aggressive filter. Can you show me the results you’ve gotten with this? If you have to turn your iso up over 800, then it’s too dark to get reliable footage with the osmo action in my opinion - it’s not a camera that’s made to shoot in low light situations and deliver cinematic results. If I’m misunderstanding you, can you make a video showing the glitches so I can see what your experiencing? Thanks for commenting.

    • @sunlit777
      @sunlit777 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@keith-knittel well, your footage is gonna be less smooth than on full auto, that is one thing, and another is - degrees? 180? Shutter? All that bs is from olddays analog film cameras with rotational shutter. NONE of that is valid with modern fully electronic shutter. Also shooting 24p for youtube? I can see now why you never noticed the rock steady glitches, you have worse issues with shooting 24p, since not one in a hundred youtube viewers watches it on 24 frames refresh display. 99% of regular pc and mobile displays WILL HAVE ISSUES with displaying smooth movement with 24p footage. It will be jerky. Try shooting a smooth slow pan from left to right - it should look perfectly smooth with no jolts in movement. Only Shooting 30p or 60p will ensure that most viewers get smooth movement.
