Thanks for the upload. Interesting that the movie was so well received and yet completely bombed at the box office. Glad to see it's developed quite a cult following over the years
I was around 11 or 12 in 1999 when HBO would play this movie over and over again. It was of course on cable by the time I had heard of it. I have been hooked on this film since then. I’m glad 24 years later it’s getting the recognition that it deserves. I’m glad S&E loved it.
It’s often the case that true masterpieces are chastised and even condemned by contemporaries yet praised many years after the creation. In the case of Gattaca, while being a critical hit, was a box office disaster. Decades later it has a growing, (not quire a cult), following. Perhaps, decades from now, it will truly receive the attention and accolade from the masses that it deserves.
People were watching crap like Titanic at the time…I remember seeing the trailer for this movie back in 97…I was mesmerized and it has been one of my favorite movies ever since.
@Sam Russell - A few other films I would recommend for students are Farherheit 451, The China Syndrome, & Griffith's Birth Of A Nation (with proper context provided by the teacher). Also for film students Once (2007). It's the kind of film anyone with motivation and creative skill could make on an extremely low budget.
@@007Anukul I can list mine if you're interested. Along with Gattaca, I also really love Man Without a Face, Hostiles, Legends of the Fall, and probably Last of the Mohicans as the fifth.
I loved Siskel and Ebert. 2thumbs up meant it was a good movie. 1 thumb up was a maybe good movie. 2 thumbs down meant it was bad. (Not ALWAYS true, but mostly.) GAttaca is one of my favorite movies.

@@stanleychen7713 I found a copy of this movie yesterday . I watched with your cliff notes and I totally enjoyed it . The performances are awesome and the look of the movie is fantastic. Thank you Mr Chen for your help turning a no 6 a yes.
Every time I watch this movie, I get very emotional. For all the right reasons.
The only movie makes me cry everytime, and I watch at least 20 times, and I'm a man.
One of my top 10 5 favorites; "I never saved anything for the swim back" is basically my mantra.
But he did swim back, and he carried his whole entire brother back too
@@selfish_martyrI think the idea is that he willed himself on the swim back, he didn't save energy. Basically lucky to get back to shore every time.
@@GRNKRBY I get the idea...the execution was very NARM imo. And I'm not the only one to think so (plenty of people get a laugh out of this scene)

For a movie not meant for this world, I must confess, I have a hard time not watching it.
It was certainly a movie before its time and holds up better than most sci-fi.
I was huge into sci-fi but by the time I heard about it, it had left theatres. I don't think it was marketed well, or at all.
Gattaca came and went. I heard of it, but didn't know what it was about. It wasn't marketed well and only caught on on cable and online after that.

YESSSSS!!!! the infamous "2 thumbs up" :) thanks for uploading this, what a fun clip to watch!

Definitely one of the smartest sci-fi movies ever made.

I like it too.....but I don't think Titanic is "crap". I think it's quite good - especially in the theatre.
A popular film for teachers to show to their students.

loved the movie, glad they liked it too.
This movie is eerily relevant to society today.
I'm glad they liked it.
One of my favorite movies, used to be my #1, but still in my top 5 at least!

That's so funny, I was just thinking of what Ebert and Siskel would have thought of this movie and this review was literally just uploaded.
