Caleb, kudos to you. Your financial audits are really eye opening. Congestive dissonance and victim mentally seem to be reoccurring character traits. It takes guts for your interviewees to open up like this and I think the exchange really allows your audience to connect and relate to. Thank you for delivering some hard truths.
This kid is something else. However i came across your videos in tiktok and i came here to see the full versions. Your videos opened my eyes to my own financial situation. I used the budget feature on my bank app to break and see my cash flow and was shocked by how much unnecessary spending i do and that ive soend 1700 more dollars than ive made in the last 3 months. I sat down with my fiance and completely redid out monthly budget and increased my 401k contribution by 5%. I hope to be out of credit card debt in the next 3 to 5 months. Keep giving these kids a hard time man they need the tough love.
I can kinda relate to this guy, it wasn't till I was 24 that I finally got the wake up call I needed to focus on a career and stop being a bum and from that point it took me about 7yrs to get to a 6fig income. People don't realize as you get older time starts moving alot faster.
This was me 10 years ago. Sometimes people need to learn the hard way in order to get it. Hopefully he listens to you it’ll save him a lot of trouble in the future!
Caleb, I just wanted to say I'm so happy I found your channel. You're like the perfect blend of Graham Stephan and Dave Ramsey!! I gotta say I'm ashamed to admit I recognized a lot of my 19 year-old self in this kid; my parents paid my way through college, for my car, gas, and food. At 23 I've graduated college this past May and have a relatively high paying job in cybersecurity - still live at home but pay rent. I have no credit card debt, no student loans (thank you mom and dad), and I'm able to save ~70% of my income.
I'm so happy you found this channel too :) But hey, first step is recognizing, and you're doing just that!! Save that money and you'll be able to do anything!!
@@perry6712 damn dude I'm really sorry to hear that 😞 rent is going through the roof everywhere. If I was paying market price for my area it would be about 50% of my income for a studio.

Burnt out at 19? 😳 I think it’s really important to learn a work ethic early on. Without one you spend all of your time playing and in the future will have nothing to fall back on. I hope this opens his eyes.
I mean, a gap year isn't crazy. And people can get worn from HS in high stress environments. But a gap year is to plan your life out, not laze indefinitely.
I got burnt out when I worked and went to school. My life was literally go to school, study, go to work, sleep. I also juggled 2 jobs because school never worked out and of course got burned out eventually only being able to handle one job. Almost every second revolved around work. I get to work at 6 AM get of at 12 pm take a nap until about 3 then go to my second job from 4 pm to 12 AM go home rinse repeat. Yeah it's very possible to lose motivation to do anything wondering what the point is.
When i was his age i did alot of Terrible financial mistakes, I wish somebody had corrected me at the time. I am now 26 making decent money No debt just my mortgage and although I live good it always kills me when I remember all that money wasted could of been towards my house or retirement funds.
He said so many people in life have gotten a break implying that he hasn't. He says this while his mommy is supplying a roof over his head, purchased him a car, pays for gas money, and is paying for college. People like him are insufferable. He has no idea how easy he has it.
I was like this when I was 19. It's a cry for help, when you fail to get into school or drop out it really messes with your self esteem. 6 months of eating out and chasing girls around isn't going to ruin his life, he just needs to rebuild his confidence and then he can start thinking more long term.
@@gabelincoln3608 you are never too far gone to make positive life changes. The consequences of your actions may be irreparable, but the person themselves can always change. Example would be someone committing a crime and being sent to prison. They can't change the circumstances but they can change who they are and how they think as a person.
Mom is not home most times. He's lonely with nothing to do but spend money. He said he likes to talk things out. He needs intimate conversation so yes a therapist will do him a lot of good. Mom essentially left him to raise himself and uses throwing money at him to quench her guilt.
@@DebraJohnson I didn't say he wasn't an adult, but I'm sure these habits he's developed didn't just start at the age of 19. He's been living like this for a long time, probably since pre-teen. Even birds teach their children to fly before pushing them out of the nest but for some reason, humans think that adult behavior should just happen suddenly by osmosis at the age of 18 just because the laws says, he's grown, yet he can't drink until the age of 22 or 23 according to the laws as well. I agree he should be working but 19 is still a teenager that should still be guided into full adulthood. His prefrontal cortex is not even fully developed at that age which is responsible for decision-making, problem solving, intelligence and emotional regulation.
I wish I had Caleb when I was 19 because I relate hardcore to this kid. No one taught me about financial wellness and didn’t get my finances together until my late 20s.
I have watched several of these audits. The guests never fail to mention that they are doing modeling, acting, or going to do something to be famous. Happens every single time.
@@perdybirdie I saw one where a guy quit his day job to be a model. I also remember a woman who financed a downpayment for a car said that she was doing modeling/acting on the side. I feel like there was one other but can't remember off the top of my head. Most of the time it is mentioned is passing a side gig - not their goal.
He's too comfortable. I was the same for awhile. He's gotta hit the point where he wants more for himself. I knew I didn't want to go through college but was doing it because my parents were supporting me with everything aside outside of the tuition itself. I just chilled at home playing games and doing homework for years. When covid hit and everyone was losing jobs it made me realize I needed to generate my own security in life because I shouldn't rely on my parents for everything. Luckily it hit me at 22 instead of 65.
This situation is why if parents are able to, they should find a way to have their kids try hobbies like sports, art, theater, dance, music, or even everything he mentioned. It sounds like he never had a chance to try things that interested him and when he graduated high school he just felt like he just wanted to do that without the income. This is so sad. But im glad that he likes to communicate and attempts to express what he wants and how he feels

I was allowed to take a break between college and high school. But I did have to work to pay for anything I wanted. It’s okay for kids to take a break. He’s 19. But he does need to start moving forward in being independent. It’s even okay to live at home. Some cultures stay at home until marriage. But he should be helping his mom with household expenses. Not the other way around. Austin community college is one of the best. They have job placement programs, 2 year degrees, and feed directly into UT. He doesn’t have to do traditional college. Do one of the 2 year job placement programs.
I work at a martial arts school. This is partially why our pricing is high initially. If you can’t afford the start up you can’t be consistent throughout the year. This takes up staff time tracking past due fees etc. I would be very very cautious adding someone like this to our team.
There’s always the option to not pay and work a deal out with the owners by cleaning mats and teaching kids classes. That’s what I did for 9 years at my gym. On the bright side no one got ring worm only broken bones hahah

Its so unfortunate that i guessed that his dad wasn’t in the home before he said it. Mix that with all the enablement and its the most classic outcome. Lets hope this was the kick in the butt he needed, because he has never had to live in reality.
When I was 19, I was in full-time university and had 2 jobs. So many kids in my class acted just like this and I was baffled by it! How at 19 are you "burned out"?! Or how can you say "well everyone else gets a break" I am 25 and just now in a position to take a little time to build my own business.
I needed to quit my high school job to keep a competitive gpa for comp sci. It might not seem worth until you realize that summer internships can literally pay for your years worth .
19 is still early to have everything figured out. This was a good wakeup call. Itll probably be a while before he gets it figured out. I was 24 before i got my act together financially and even then i was making huge mistakes in my life. But thats how we learn.
Wow, can't believe you only have 7.3k subs. I was sure (by the quality of the video/editing) that this was a huge youtuber that I just so happened to stumble across. Big kudos!!

Thought I should share a different perspective since it seems like most people here screwed up or wasn’t really planning when they were 19. I was that person who did everything “right”. Testing every few years to get into a better school, worked extremely hard and had chronic stress in high school to start my own business and get into a good university with an extremely competitive program. At 19 I had a really good GPA and was the only freshman who was thinking about internships and was at all the career events to meet recruiters. I made it through the program with good grades, many internships, part time jobs, contractor gigs and managed to pay for all my rent, tuition, expenses. I graduated with no debt, 30k in savings and a full time job paying double the average household income in the area. It all sounds perfect right? BUT, I missed out on all the parties, the bars, the festivals, I didn’t go to a single one. I only went out with friends to eat out like once every two weeks or month. Not to save money (I probs spent way more than him), but cause I was really busy. In a way I really relate to what he is saying, the only difference between us is how I managed to stay in with the grind whereas he quit. My parents in many ways are very similar to his, perhaps even more easygoing. At this point I hope he chooses to also take out student loans like I did even when both our parents are able to afford it, I find that providing that financial respect really improves the relationship. Best of luck to him, it’s not too late.
I feel for this kid. I think a lot of 18-22 year olds are in this position right now. I'm 21. We grew up seemingly always told to do whatever we want, be whoever we want, etc... It really shows, especially in households where the parents tiptoe the line of nurturing to enabling. I paid for a couple semesters of college with money from working in HS but when it came time to take out loans covid hit so I just dropped that given I didn't really want to be there anyway. Been trying to have my net worth go up instead of immediately 40-60k in debt. I spend way too much on cars and eating out, but I do manage to invest along with some decent savings thanks to still living home rent free. I have paid for absolutely everything myself though, down to never even being on my mom's car insurance. I'm working my way into the automotive mechanics field and already have a decent resume for my age and just got promoted up to $18/hr, with my longer term goal being a dividend and real estate portfolio. Point I'm trying to get to though is there is a clear distinction I see in my friends, coworkers and people my age-ish, between those whose parents keep cushying everything for them and those that will be there for their wellbeing but push them into independence if they simply want things that are not needs or will not build their future. This is also a case study on America's deeper epidemic of single motherhood. I am the product of a single mother. I see clear distinctions and the same trend over and over again between young adult men who have a quality relationship with their father vs those who do not. Then again maybe I'm just bitter. Regardless, quality video. I love this series. High quality content and production value too. I see this exploding.
Nah I feel you people don't understand the psychology behind their actions and what learned behaviors is that's why they are doomed to repeat the same patterns. I wish that Caleb had implemented the 50/30/20 rule earlier but I hope you watch some of his recent episodes and continue to do good. I would say in most situations schooling is the answer but don't just go to go like figure out what you want to do
Yay!! Finally got to the OG video! Ive watched the two follow-ups with this kid and they are a wild ride. This kid is so delusional and self-important. 🤣
The under the breath "kill me," and "motorcycle paid off" had me snorting. This guy is flakey AF. WTF did his family do to him that this is the result? I guess it's a good thing he doesn't like things to be safe and boring because struggling to survive and make ends meet should keep things interesting.
He was shown how to be flakey, probably by his mother. She most likely was gone most of the day and is now throwing money at him cause she feels guilty.
Ive always hated the "other people have gotten breaks" thing. 1) He has plenty of breaks. His mom is paying his bills and willing to pay for school. 2) For every person that has gotten breaks, theres way more that dont even have a guaranteed meal coming tonight or clean drinking water.
For those watching this video for the first time, there are 2 other videos with this guy. All I have to say is that he makes me feel happy about my financial situation.
The more I keep watching I feel that maybe the focus should be on the things he wants to do with financial freedom not necessarily retirement, marriage and kids. That can still be part of the conversation but if it was more focused on traveling, experiences while he also saves fir retirement, short term and long term savings. Creating a budget for those trips and activities, while still adding to a retirement account, maybe would’ve been more productive. Most 19 year olds dont care about retirement because it seems to far away. Its important to hit more near future goals while still keeping retirement in mind but not the main focus of the conversation
At 19 I was working as a labor in concrete. My brother n law took me in I showed up everyday with him at worked free to see if I would quit. ( many days I wanted to ) I would get chewed out for everything. Sooner or later I became a finisher and started getting raises. When I left at 26 I was at $29.
The danger zone is when you ‘take a break’ but then you feel like you don’t want to work again. I know a few people still living at home in their late 20s with no career and parents paying for everything. I am not saying that is him, I hope he takes Caleb’s advice.
Really like this format, hearing real people's stories and situations is very entertaining. One thing I think you really should add is a section where you review all of their important financial ratios (liquidity, current, debt to income, housing, etc.) its going to help you pinpoint the best areas for them to improve. Any CFP will tell you how important doing that analysis can be.
I had that mindset in my mid 20s, but I decided that I only needed to work 20 hours a week.. Like sure I got by, but I had nothing to show for it.. And the second I had a dentist appointment that would blow away anything I had saved for. The sad reality is that we all need to work, and most of us have jobs that we do not like.
This is what happens by parents telling their kids they are special and unique. No one ever told him the reality of life. You are just like millions of others. Hard work and sense of self is the only thing that will separate you from being like everyone else. Not just cause you think you're deep and have a different outlook on things.
You still need the money to create options for yourself. He knew he needed to hear it and I’m glad up gave him the heads up. It seems like you asked questions that he never fully considered.

It’s not lazy, he just got a job. Not entitlement, doesn’t say others should provide everything. It’s ignorance. He’s 19! Life will teach quite a bit in the next 10 years. This is how life is when young!

I’m a little arrogant, but im the first to admit it at least. Most of the video I tried to really play into the idea of taking a break to pursue passions and figure out what we enjoy in life without having to do it all on top of school and work but im not too sure I came off the way since this video is about finances and due to the rest of the communities comments lol. Sure entitled may be how I come off but I can say with confidence I am grateful and blessed I’ve been given the life I have and the opportunities and positions I’ve been put in.

Burnt out.....its wrong of me, but I wonder how much of the burn out is from blazing ?

26 though, you're going to kill it!!

A mortgage is definitely a debt!
He said so many people in life have gotten a break implying that he hasn't. He says this while his mommy is supplying a roof over his head, purchased him a car, pays for gas money, and is paying for college. People like him are insufferable. He has no idea how easy he has it.
Exactly! And I have no issues with someone getting spoiled, but, recognize it! Your life is not that hard!
Poor mom
I was like this when I was 19. It's a cry for help, when you fail to get into school or drop out it really messes with your self esteem. 6 months of eating out and chasing girls around isn't going to ruin his life, he just needs to rebuild his confidence and then he can start thinking more long term.

LOL same. I was looking for him on here to see.

Mom is not home most times. He's lonely with nothing to do but spend money. He said he likes to talk things out. He needs intimate conversation so yes a therapist will do him a lot of good. Mom essentially left him to raise himself and uses throwing money at him to quench her guilt.
Spot on
He is an ADULT. His mother doesn’t need to be home with him. He should be at work.

Definitely need to hear this. Thank you!
This situation is why if parents are able to, they should find a way to have their kids try hobbies like sports, art, theater, dance, music, or even everything he mentioned.
100% okay to take time and figure stuff out, but I don't like that he refused to work and try.
I work at a martial arts school. This is partially why our pricing is high initially. If you can’t afford the start up you can’t be consistent throughout the year. This takes up staff time tracking past due fees etc. I would be very very cautious adding someone like this to our team.
Oh dang, that does make sense though!

Happy I found you. I’m bingeing these to stay focused on becoming more disciplined and debt free in the next 24mos

Why didn’t his dad throw away his career and stay home to entertain him?
These vids make me so grateful that I budget down to the penny and automate my savings/investments.
Just discovered Caleb. What a good guy.
It seemed like the classic I want to win the lottery but refuse to even buy a ticket situation.
you're not wrong :/
At 19, I had a full time job and was going to college full time so like this is WILD to me.
Ive always hated the "other people have gotten breaks" thing.
1) He has plenty of breaks. His mom is paying his bills and willing to pay for school.
2) For every person that has gotten breaks, theres way more that dont even have a guaranteed meal coming tonight or clean drinking water.
Exactly!
I need this in my life. It’s a sign that these videos keep popping up
For those watching this video for the first time, there are 2 other videos with this guy.
Yeah, that is very fair!
I'm here for the backstory.
