  • In today's video, I crawl down to the bear pits in permafrost for some amazing experience. The camp itself is extremely easy and can get you through that 55-60 grind quick. The toughest part is getting there, but we make it happen in the video.

    I was the first L60 on my server by a wide margin, but I did this as a wizard. Cyndreela straight to 55, then basically raptors in Timorous after that. When I hit level 59, raptors got nerfed so that they were agro with a detection range that was 99% of max casting range, so everyone instantly stopped killing them for exp. I stuck with it because there were really no other options for a solo wizard. My guildmaster told me that even though I was first to 60 by like a month on my server, some folks on Veeshan had beat me. He said the Permafrost bear pits were where they did it. That sort of blew my mind. I think I was aware of the fact that they were in the appropriate level range to push for 60, but I regarded everything in that zone that wasn't a goblin as "raid content", and I had a particular phobia about the nightmare of losing a corpse down in the pits. The retrieval would be effectively _impossible_ and I'd have to kiss all of my gear goodbye. So it was off the radar to say the least.
    That actually almost happened to me. Cyndreela feared me during one of my less lucky encounters with her. When I recovered, I accidentally stepped into PoF. The only gate I had memorized was a slow cast to North Karana (memorized so I could pay the guy in the tower to cure things like blood burn before they finished me off). Plus I knew darn well that the most likely course of events when zoning into PoF is being agroed before you can even make a move. My whole guild was of course grinding levels. No way would they drop everything for a PoF rescue mission. That was the most stressful moment in my EQ history.

      @@RektYou Never gonna be anything like it ever again. Softcore players would take too much offense to losing a day's effort from one death, or running the honest to goodness risk of losing everything. The property has new owners now. Daybreak milked it for all it was worth, fair enough, but there was never that slight possibility of something new being done. Now, who knows, maybe. P1999 is fine as a surface level replacement, but then you start to see that most of its content is heavily dependent on what amounts to legend. Good example being the pegasus cloak: It was rumored that you had to kill a rhino calf near the spirocs, so that's how they implemented it. The reality on live servers was very different. Maybe the new EQ owners will leak that crucial data to the P1999 folks.
      I have lots of quirky personal anecdotes from EQ. Certainly the best gaming experience of my life. I nearly completed the wizard epic before they changed it and made it easier to complete (it was originally _by far_ the least likely epic quest to complete, relying upon a once-per-10-Cazic Thule drop). I somehow had a corpse duplicate while I was holding onto a borrowed manastone. I spent two straight weeks killing everything in SK before I finally got a cloak and camped out 10 seconds before the servers went down. Good times.

    God love these videos. I was born when original eq was out and i installed p99 two years ago. Played it here and there the wiki only gives so munch info. I am like a 24 magician something like that. Watching videos like this really motivates me to play the game more because dungeons in p99 are so insane!

    I have to say I am really enjoying these crawls. I played an enchanter back in the day on live, for around 9 years. Gillit Honourbound, of the guild Protectors of the Five. I have played sporadically over the years. Your videos are making me nostalgic to get back into EQ. The spell sounds, the ambient noises make me miss it quite a bit. When I played I would never have considered trying to solo, but I understand much better how it is possible now. Thank you for the literal hours of enjoyment.

    It's fun to see new videos popping up. I've only taken an interest in EQ in the last week or so, and started on the green server. Everyone always tells me to group all the time, but I like to play solo. It's fun to see you still soloing w/ the enchanter after all this time. I wanna do these dangerous solo runs too.

    • @RektYou
      @RektYou  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      you've chosen the right class if you want to solo what most groups can do. Definitely a very fun experience when you get it down.

      @@RektYou Really looking forward to it. Dying 6 times on level 9 tried to slow me down... but I finally hit 12. I'm in the gnome area, but I think I've just out grown it... time to see what's in the zone next over I guess. :)

      @@corgibuttz2550 nice! i'd head over to Crushbone for lvls 12-15 and then unrest 15-25. You have lots of options from there, but it's just a boring grind in the early part until you get all your toys :)

    Great videos. Not sure if you bother with P99 anymore but there's a real lack of lower level content if that's something you would consider doing.
    Getting up and running on an enchanter, learning to charm in the lower levels and figuring out how it all works together, good places to go to level, how to make decent plat early levels when all the popular camps are sat on by a higher level, that stuff there is a distinct lack of on TH-cam. There's lots of videos of twinked out 50+ characters soloing camps or zones. Not so much lower content.

    • @RektYou
      @RektYou  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      that resets the global cooldown so it allows me to cast my next spell slightly faster. Alliance is a cast from one of the items my char has. rod of insidious glamour.

    Hey RektYou, really enjoy the videos. I've been wondering, what's the best way to powerlevel with a bard past like level 20? I've noticed it's a bit hard for me to damage shield tank on him, as I actually start to take a considerable amount of damage from the mobs. I'm trying to powerlevel my druid friend, but it's just not going as well as we'd hoped. Any suggestions or thoughts on doing a powerlevel via druid/bard video?

    • @RektYou
      @RektYou  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not sure, honestly. My bard is still only 25 right now and it was 20 years ago that I had one above 50. I know they have their ways, but I'm still not there yet

    Hey I've been really enjoying your videos. I'm an aspiring Enchanter who hopes to be at your soloing prowess in the future. I've been steadily watching your backlog of videos in chronological order to get an idea of how you've improved, etc. One thing that worries me is the lack of cycle targeting on green. I've counted many instances where things have gone wrong in your videos and you're able to tab target your way to safety. I fear soloing on Green will be MUCH harder with the lack of cycle targeting. What's been your experience with the lack of cycle targeting on green? Any tips on targeting on the Green server?

    • @RektYou
      @RektYou  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey man, welcome to the fun :). Tab targeting is definitely a huge advantage, but after a few months on Green, i've gotten pretty used to going without it.
      You will get caught in situations where getting a certain mob targeting can be an issue, but repositioning to get a click on them or using the /target command, can help you.
      A good trick I've learned to use on green without the tab targeting is to slightly reposition mobs. So you have lets say you have your pet and 3 enemies pulled. You can usually tab target the closest and use /assist on your pet to target another... root those two, then slightly pull your pet back to give just a small gap for that last mob to be an easy click target. Then you can send your pet back into the middle of the 3 to get beat on quick. That's just one example, but reposition mobs to make clicking work does wonders.

    • @cerotonen
      @cerotonen 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@RektYou Nice, I will have to try that. My enchanter is level 11 at the moment, and I know charming isn't going to be very reliable for a few spell circles.
      One other thing I haven't figured out... how do you move through your spellbook so quickly? I move with WASD but pressing A and D don't flip the spell book, only Left Arrow and Right Arrow. I tried to find a way to rebind those keys for the spell book, but I don't see an option.

    • @RektYou
      @RektYou  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@cerotonen I actually just click the arrows usually. I don't have a key bound for page turning either (although, that would be a super helpful thing to do lol).
      I've found it extremely important to organize your spell book as an enchanter. We have so many tools that need to be used in one fight, you'll be switching a lot as an enchanter. So, I put all my most used spells in the first 2-3 pages... then the sometimes used spells on pages 4-5 and any old useless spells I've out grown are put about 20 pages deep so I don't accidentally switch to one mid fight :).
