    I am very thankful that in the last years of his life, Dave Smith and Tom Oberheim changed from being competitors to collaborators. I feel thankful that Mr. Smith gave Oberheim a forum in which to re-acquire his own brand and return to manufacturing synthesizers under that brand.

      @@hadrien5697 it's an instrument that can last a lifetime. it's wildly inexpensive compared to traditional acoustic instruments of its caliber, and every single previous oberheim released.

    Sounds excellent. 5 voice poly isn't enough though. At least 8 if not 12. Big chords need big polyphony.

      Maybe for you. I think if one is playing 3 notes in the right hand they might already be hosed depending on how many voices are needed per note. If it is two voices per note, you're done.
      Even if you aren't, and can play the whole chord, you're going to have the tail being cut when you play the next chord. And that's not even including a bass note(s). It really just needs more poly.

      I do believe DSI still manufactures all Oberheim products. It's kind of a "don't ask, don't tell" sort of arrangement as far as I can tell. REALLY sad that this level of "deceit" has permeated our daily lives and has become commonplace.

      It is a collab with all the same folks. DSI simply changed their name back to Sequential. One difference is that the OB6 was produced entirely with Dave's input while he was still alive.

      Other than the mod matrix, this thing is basically just an OB-6 with less voices. Even filters are the same. Might as well call it an OB-4

      @@bdotstanley Less keys, and some plastic in the construction I think? Some cool new features and effects though. Starsky Carr's analysis showed the oscillators on the Take/TEO have less high-end than the Prophet/OB Oscillators - if that matters.

      I guess I'm just confused by this product. If you're going to drop $1500 you might as well just be patient and save an extra thousand to get the real thing.

    It took Oberheim four decades to finally understand the importance of producing affordable synthesizers for everyone and not only for the rich, they can't possibly keep their business model running for too long by competing with only one extremely expensive synthesizer in the merciless synth industry, literally every company have a vast range of gear of various prices from Moog to Sequential, and let's not talk about Behringer who honestly can compete with the big boys now, the TEO5 will explode Oberheim's sales and will sell like hot cakes, I just hope that this is not a slightly different Take5, can't wait for the reviews from Loopop, Daniel from Sweetwater, Nick from Sonicstate and Starsky Carr

      An analogy to your comment would apply if Ferrari decided to sell cheap cars or Rolex cheap watches just to “survive” compromising quality and lineage.
      There is always going to be a market for people who can afford expensive stuff, but the business model is different.
      Unfortunately quality and craftsmanship are expensive.
      Look at the thriving guitar market with Gibsons selling for several thousands like hotcakes. Once you are done with your cheaper Epiphone you go and get the real thing.

      @@edgardvera3132 your exemple doesn't apply here, Ferrari or Gibson have several types of cars and guitars to offer unlike Oberheim who have been selling the same one or two synths since decades, the T5 will be a game changer for them, it took them too long to understand unlike companies like Moog or Sequential who's always been producing quality and expensive gear and never stopped them to produce affordable synths of fantastic quality, whether you really don't get the point, or you defend Oberheim without knowing how the industry works nowadays, if you want to survive, better be inventive.

      Becasue they used the already engineered chassis and most likely some of the internal processing of the Sequential Take 5 in order to save research and development costs and offer this for much cheaper than other Oberheim products. Taking a page out of Behringer's book (in a good way)

      @@M80- I think it is part of the strategy, Why make a flagship $4000-$5000 synth and then offer the same thing at practically nothing? Obviously you lose a few features here but if this thing was comparable to the X8 nobody would buy the X8. I suspect this is why it or the Take5 do not have modules as well.

      @@mastersoftoday Come on now, I have an OB-X8 and I love it but nothing was stolen here. In order to steal something it has to be illegally taken, that's what defines theft whether you like it or not. Tom couldn't even call his synths Oberheim if Behringer didn't give him the rights to. The OB-Xa design is open to whoever want's use it, legally. The patent long expired.
      Also, did Tom say he feels cheated? If not, you probably shouldn't speak for him. According to your logic that's like stealing his voice.

      To be frank, your brand of ethics are tricky. Unfortunately you kinda have to be a hypocrite to enjoy the modern world and hold such views. It's a real have your cake and eat too, In perpetuity.
      Just think about the services you're accessing now, Google, and how you're accessing it. The cost that makes that possible is a lot of human suffering. I'll leave it at that. Your curiosity, should you have it, will answer why if you don't know already. It's a dog eat dog world.
      Sequential, Oberheim, Roland, et all, they operate by the same rules. No one is innocent, if you want to make a profit. They have good PR though.
      BTW, Behringer donates a lot of these clones to less fortunate kids around the world. When the UB-Xa came out they dropped the price and asked people to donate the difference to one those charities, offering to match the money donated up to a million dollars.

      And this is still too expensive for 5 note polyphony. Should have been at least 8 note polyphonic. Sounds good though.
