This album (and particularly, seeing the video for "Pour Some Sugar On Me") started my journey in playing guitar 25 years ago. Basically, I owe a debt to Def Leppard that I could never repay. And they're still going! I saw them in Vegas for Viva Hysteria! and they were excellent. One of the greatest, most professional and most down-to-earth bands of all time!
Oh, I totally agree with him. Being 12 years old in '87 and totally buying into rock at that point, Hysteria was a complete game-changer in my life. Late '80s, you had Poison, Bon Jovi just broke onto the scene, etc. Def Leppard's Hysteria had the best hooks IMO I'd ever heard.
I still remember when I bought Hysteria on cassette back in 1987 shortly after Pour some sugar on me was released, I wore that cassette tape out let me tell you. An amazing album from one of the best bands ever, hard to believe it's now been 30 years.
OMG Run Riot is one of my favorite songs. Guitar parts are insane. I think Joe doesn't like it because he's mostly screaming through the song. Vocally it's not that great, but instrumentally, it's incredible.
What is great about Run Riot is that it hasn't been pounded into your head for the last 29 years like many of the other tracks. It wasn't my favorite back in the day, but it has grown on me to be on par with the other radio tracks, which, although are still absolute classics, have faded a bit. I feel the exact same way about Gods of War, Don't Shoot Shotgun, Excitable, and Love and Affection. They are all killer songs.
Run riot is one of the best songs on the frickin album!! In fact they’re all one of the best songs lol Compare to Def Leppard 2015- 2015 is the same Def Leppard without the motif. Euphoria has the motif, but it’s so dull. You can get the same motif by having a washing machine humming in the background. Guitars aren’t supposed to hum!! X was a beautiful album but didn’t feel like a Leppard album and felt like they had concentrated on being a pop band gave up on being the kind of rock band Hysteria established them as & they completely ran out of names. “Songs from the Sparkle lounge” again sounds like a Def Leppard album without a motif. “Mirrorball’s” 3 bonus singles are some of their best music but again sounds like three different bands. One queen knockoff, one Shania Twain/country cowboy derivative, and one watered down Def Leppard song.
I like Run Riot too, but if I HAD to dump on a song on the album, its Excitable - always skip over it. Its not a bad song, but the rest of the album is so good it just feels not up to scratch. Strangely it leads into still my fave Lep song ever, the closer Love And Affection. Massively under-rated track IMO and a def Top 10 if it had ever been released.
Actually the commentator is wrong about the first single release. "Women" was first released in the U.S., and bombed! "Animal" was first released in Europe, and did really well.
No, Jeremy just spent a lot of time following Def Lep. If you think I'm a bad ass, check this out. Eddie Trunk answered a question what was Pete Willis doing after Def Leppard and his response was '"he started a new bad called atomic mass". Atomic Mass was the bands name before Def Lepp. How do you like them apples?
I think Joe's hilarious when he says Run Riot was a disaster of a song. I absolutely LOVE Run Riot!! Hahahaha! I'd say, MAYBE, a couple parts of Run Riot are a little thin, but damn, their riffs and hooks in it are first-rate. That's why I love these fellas. Who else is so cool they can openly dump on their own shit.
Whoever produced this little bio got a big detail wrong. Animal was released as a single in Europe which finally gave them success in their native country, and Women was released in the states, which wasn't a top rated single. It wasn't until PSSOM that things got, you know Hysterical.
Oh Yeah , the cool name Def Leppard ..... Listen to awesome fans ; we have something to say . hey guys longevity with rock & roll . can you dig it ........
Funny to see how tastes differ from person to person. I have never really liked Armageddon It, but Shotgun has always been one of my favorite songs on the album. If I were Def Leppard I would certainly do without Excitable and Love & Affection as they sound somewhat inferior as opposed to the rest of the album. Just sayin'.
Was very touching to hear them talk about Steve... R.I.P. we miss you!
Most families are never as loyal as Leppard were after Rick's accident. So glad they waited for him to return. Hysteria rocks!! My fave album!! 🎸🎸🎸
Weird, Run Riot's one of my favorites on Hysteria (which remains my all-time favorite album to this day).
As I'm watching Phil & Joe...HYSTERIA comes on the radio!!

Hysteria changed my life. ❤❤❤❤❤

Great Interview! I knew Joe was a Monty Python fan - thats why I love him! Fantastic band that will stand the test of time
I love all the tracks on Hysteria...Run Riot included. I don't think Hysteria would be the same without it.
Run Riot is one of my fav's on the album!
Hysteria is my favourite Def leppard cd love this cd and def leppard
Best record ever!

Chills hearing about the band.
Hysteria wouldn't be the same without Run Riot. Great song.

Happy 30th Anniversary Hysteria!
these dudes are cool
Run Riot is great imo. Its rawness is a great contrast to/break from all the slick production. (personally I could take or leave Don't Shoot Shotgun)
So true! :)
It's one of the best songs on Hysteria!
Run Riot is my favorite with Women, Rocket, and Gods of War. Shotgun and Love & Affection I can do without.
MrChad97Z see I agree with joe! I could do without run riot! And keep love and affection, Don't shoot shotgun
run riot is an awesome song..

I had never heard of Def Leppard until Hysteria. Keep hearing about the Pyromania album, never see a link to it.
c'mon...run riot is one of the greatest, just hear the solo!! it awesome!!...i like every song, its my favorite album :)
Actually the commentator is wrong about the first single release. "Women" was first released in the U.S., and bombed! "Animal" was first released in Europe, and did really well.
Very good!
Forever hysteria
In the begining, god made the land..
then he made the water and creatures, then he made man

7:36 for shame Joe as don't shoot and run riot back to back r one of DL best imo.....
I love run riot
I LOVE Run Riot. As a guitar player, it doesn't get any better. So glad to hear Alex Lifeson was one of Steve's favorite players. Makes total sense.
Just think, it's coming from the Joe Elliott himself! lol
Get it right, women was the first single in US not Animal that was first in EUROPE
X Def Leppard X
dudes,
what the fuck?
i love Run Riot !
And thay rock
I think Joe's hilarious when he says Run Riot was a disaster of a song. I absolutely LOVE Run Riot!! Hahahaha! I'd say, MAYBE, a couple parts of Run Riot are a little thin, but damn, their riffs and hooks in it are first-rate.

Joe is crazy,Run Riot is one of my favorite songs from the album. Sugar not so much(too much of a pop song.)
I love Run Riot.
Whoever produced this little bio got a big detail wrong. Animal was released as a single in Europe which finally gave them success in their native country, and Women was released in the states, which wasn't a top rated single. It wasn't until PSSOM that things got, you know Hysterical.
But I love Run Riot!!
gods of war the song def leppard ever did along with die hard the hunter , desert song and good morning freedom
Run Riot is probably the worst song on that album, but it is still an awesome song. That's how good Hysteria was.
worst song? lol umm no.. its under rated actually
Oh Yeah , the cool name Def Leppard ..... Listen to awesome fans ; we have something to say . hey guys longevity with rock & roll . can you dig it ........
Grudge rock was terrible.
