- A good from-scratch brownie recipe can be hard to come by. In fact, we've found that 97% of the time, boxed mix is better. So we took the task of choosing the celebs for this snackdown very seriously. Obviously, the Barefoot Contessa needed to be in the competition - we trust her with our lives. As for a worthy competitor, Nigella has proven herself more than capable in the decadent chocolate dessert department.

People don't realize that coffee actually enhances the flavor profile of chocolate. Anytime I make a chocolate dessert, I almost always include instant coffee.
I am deathly allergic to coffee.

@@SailorSiFi I am not a coffee drinker and have tasted cake and brownies made with coffee. Makes a huge difference. If you add too much coffee or espresso, I would assume that you would taste it.
I cannot stand coffee anything. That's just me but I would spit the one with coffee out.

Nigella's brownie is more British style, whereby it's wet, moist and gooey. Ina's brownie is the classic American style, more chewy. Both will taste really good nevertheless.
ZaTaYaYummy Inas are not chewy brownies, they are more soft and gooey, hence why she said "if you're an edge person these are not for you." These are basically the same recipe but Ina adds instant coffee granules to hers and walnuts, they both would have the same consistency. Not trying to be a bitch but made Inas they were delicious but I'm a brownie edge eater lol

Lol. Did you not pay attention? Ina's was definitely more moist. You could tell from the recipe (all that butter), as well as how dense it looked.
Remy Mafia you have never tried British style brownie yet. It's so wet, almost alittle too. I didn't say Ina's ain't the usual moist.
I didn't say that you were lying about "British style" vs "American style". I'm saying that Ina used "southern style". So it was moist as fuck. You can even see in the video that her's is dense, while Nigella's is fluffy. Clear indication that Ina's is more moist, and Nigella's is more chewy.
I’ve made Nigella’s many times and they come out looking a lot fudgier than that..they are the best!

LOVE WALNUTS, and Ina's definitely look better, but I will watch Nigella for hours, Ina I can only stand for 5 minutes.

I agree. I can only take Ina in small doses. The more I have read on her , I find she is not a nice person, what we see on TV is mostly fake
I like them both. They're both very calming and reserved as opposed to the very in-your-face, loud cooks like Guy, Bobby, Giadia (ugh), and others. But I've made both but I prefer Ina's because I like more chewy brownies.

Sold her business the Barefoot Contessa a kitchen shop near her for a lot of money, several years later then the lease was up, she wouldn't renew the lease, causing the store she sold to go out of business and months later when the article was written, the storefront was still empty.

I make Ina’s several times a year and they never disappoint. Not inexpensive to make, so be warned. I use less coffee than called for and I leave out the nuts (allergic child) and they come out just fine.
Agreed. My DH was allergic to walnuts also so I left them out too.
@christina v the walnuts are expensive. Butter too. And she uses melted chocolate not cocoa. But everything she makes is pretty world class
Both have their merits but yes, the coffee wins it for Ina. Coffee enhances chocolate's flavour.
I'm iffy on the walnuts myself but still, omit them and Ina still gets the edge. Hell, try Nigella's with some instant coffee; guarantee you it will tastw wayyyy more chocolatey.
I've made her recipe with both walnuts and another batch substituting pecans. Pecans win.
Y’all need to try Martha Stewart fudgy brownie recipe. Omg! The top gets a flaky chocolate texture and the interior is rich, not overly fudge like taste. Just dense, moist, cocoa flavor mmmmmm

The way they cook the food is so disheartening and doesn’t make it fun to watch like they’re just trying to get it over and done with as fast as possible. Makes it hard to rely on which recipe is truly better

I feel like I am such basic brownie bitch. I just use dark dutch processed cocoa powder, baking powder, eggs, sugar, oil, and flour. You don't need anything beyond this to make a great brownie. I prefer mine fudgy so I mix by hand. I also bake everything from scratch because I can't stand boxed mixed and most of the time it is just as easy to throw some ingredients in a bowl and make it from scratch and it tastes way better.
Both are tough competiti women.

I would like to buy you guys a spatula which can "SCRAPE" the bowl. Because you need this to scrape the bowl well.
Just by looking at the recipe I'd go with ina cause coffee really highlights the taste of chocolate... Just saying my opinion

The brownies are very dependent on taste. Im not a fan of coffee or walnuts so Nigella would have to win for me....even though im pretty sure my grandmas recipe is still better.
