I was at this show. My third time seeing Julian Lage, first time being him solo. This was definitely the stand-out piece of the night. A poor lady collapsed at the beginning of the night, right at the end of a song, right at the front of the stage. Julian addressed it straight away with calm and concern, there was a brief break in the show and once it all resumed, Julian gave us updates on the woman throughout the show, letting us know she was alright. One thing that makes these shows and Julian's playing so incredible is his kind spirit and open heart, I've never seen a musician so free live. I was lucky to meet him and talk to him after a show in London in 2018, where, when parting after telling him how much we loved the show, I plucked enough courage to tell him how much his videos inspired me and gave me motivation - he called me back to talk to me more about practice and mindset around practice. I got his autograph and was walking on air for about a week.
How old are you? "The best" is something for children. Music isn't about being "the best", you can't even compare players. They have different strengths, techniques, and genres.
SURELY there is an album to be released from this tour. The concerts have been phenomenal and these recordings are beautiful. Please, please please. We need these on vinyl for posterity.
I Was there. Drove from London as I missed him at the jazz festival and decided that after seeing Metheny few days before I had to close the year with one if not my favourite guitar player alive. What a concert!! I was in first row, 3 meters far, impossible in London (saw him at jazz cafe with the band years ago). As in previous comments above, Julian is PURE class and FREEDOM. He is not performing nor executing, mainly he is communicating and sometimes exploring. What a bliss. Pure art. Also, I believe that collings was Aridndack by the overtones and volume. Julian right hand is even better than his left one, something that only on a pure acoustic concert you can really appreciate. Will see him again in Jan! 3 days later I am still excited and can’t stay away from my guitar. Thx Julian 🙏
This is so fantastic. I love Double Southpaw as recorded on The Layers but hearing him expand on the themes in a live setting is such a privilege. So grateful for these recordings.
Thank you Julian for being so generous with your work and sharing it. It is truly a joy. I loved your version of Northern Shuffle you did a few days ago... It was absolutely fun to hear! God bless you and have a wonderful Thanksgiving. We have so much to be grateful for. 🙂
All the videos are so beautiful and the playing is so perfect. There is not the smallest mistake audible at any time. Every note and every sound is just perfect. This blows my mind! There is so much joy, contempt, respect and love in Julian's music. It's truly inspiring. I'm so happy to finally see him in December.
Same as every time I hear him preform, leaves me asking myself, did that really just happen ? And where the hell did I go for the last 5 minutes because I definitely wasn’t here. 😮
Thank you for uploading these daily vids. So great. I'm in awe of the tone/sound Julian gets. Just a guitar one mic, no monitors...would love more insight on how he's doing this.
@@phish1 I was just on the road for a small tour and for the tunes I play solo acoustic, I tried this set up. Didn't work for me at all 🤪, had to go back to using a monitor and a clip on DPA mic.
This for me was epic crazy funny fun, always supremely intelligent, but with capricious and rambunctious, SPECIAL kind of crazy. I think the term " Style Lage" is a new genre of guitar.
The SM57 is a cardioid dynamic microphone this looks like a small condenser as mentioned - way more sensitive - maybe a Neuman KM184 or similar with a wind shield on it? Hard to see
quando tiene una chitarra in mano Julian si stacca dal costone dove stanno gli umani musicisti e decolla verso una dimensione che stupisce lui per primo e noi lo guardiamo estasiati

I was there too! Absolutely mesmerising evening and nice one on the autograph mate!
Nice story.
the best player alive
I would say him and Tommy Emmanuel.

Seconded. I’d happily purchase every show. But I’ve got it BAAAAD. :-)
His playing is always so effortlessly heartfelt. It’s never phoned in
These daily uploads are a revelation!
the kind of person that makes us realise how important art is

Glorious. That shifty fretting hand move at 3:46 is a trifle cheeky...
I might just melt away listening to this❤
The most expressive guitarist of this generation…

Merci. Julian est très inspiré et inspirant. Quel incroyable guitariste !
A beautiful stroll to Andalusia !

Love the flamenco influence. Brilliant playing.

The Layers EP is top notch and this version enhances the original.

Yeah wtf! How come when I just play w a mic pointed at the guitar it sounds nothing like this lol

Having no monitor helps the clarity of the sound. I’m guessing the mic is either a Neumann, Earthworks or Schoeps omni.

Got to say. I love the way you post. Art is one thing - timing is another. Blown away by what looks like an sm57 only ? Wowzers

@neilmarsh7437 yeah it is such a good sound for 1 mic very impressed
Love it 🔥🤝

That move at 3:40 is absolutely fucking ridiculous.

Julian is the most artistic guitarist alive! ah, the best guitarist.
You think he’s using the green Dunlop turtle pick ? I used to love those but moved to purple.
Yeah, that’s what he’s using.
Ok I’m just putting my guitars up for sale! What’s the point? Seriously, he is such an excellent player.
Why do I get the feeling Julian is about to play in London and I don't have a ticket?
He played Cadogan Hall last Thursday, and Brighton on Sunday.
I’m genuinely sorry to tell you that, as I know how gutted I’d be.
Beautiful! But I miss the electric and band!!
Maybe he could get a guitar that doesn’t buzz for the next show.
He can play everything, except flamenco.
