You're my favourite Barbell Shrugged guest / host Andy, I've listened to your episodes multiple times. It's fascinating (and subjectively pleasing) to discover the health benefits and range of application of strength training; my parents have always disliked my lifting (it's bad for you / you'll hurt your back etc.) The history stuff on Body of Knowledge is a fantastic addition, and this channel is brilliant - deserves a lot more views. The importance of communicating scientific ideas and the bounty of research in layman's terms cannot be overstated - keep doing what you're doing.
I really appreciate it. And while of course, i'd love to have a million views, I knew that would not happen. I did it for a different purpose. For people like you. That makes it all worth it. Super thankful for you taking the time to make the comment!
Wow my brother you are such a great teacher thank you so much I'm not going to be able to afford all kinds of college courses but I sure didn't enjoying learning from you thank you for doing all this work and posting this all for free you're an amazing human being and one of the best teachers I've ever met. Thank you again so much. Peace love and light to you my brother and all of the blessings
It really doesn't matter and I don't know if you can still change it but at minute 25:10 there is an error with the 65+45=100. Either way great video, saw you on Rogan's podcast an got curious on your work and I'm really happy there are people like you doing real public service. So keep it up!
Coming from immunology, "MHC" referring to "myosin heavy chain" rather than "major histocompatibility complex" is quite trippy! Really excellent lecture, don't think there's such detailed info on fibre types anywhere else on youtube!
Since the first day, when i saw Andy in barbell shrugged, i thought, man, when this guy is gonna make his own website with information, that will be awesome. And there it is. Andy, keep up the good work! Thank you very much for education!!
I'm really glad I found your channel. Thank you for laying this out in detail and making it easy to understand. I'm gonna go through all your videos! :-)
Hey Andy, thanks again for all the nicely condensed information. I so regret not going into health studies when I had the chance. Your vids help me at least cover somewhat of the gap and hopefully help me switch jobs!
Question: Are you talking about the hybrids (II c) when saying that there is co-expression of MHC in fibres? If hybrids increase in sedentary lifestyle - does that mean all fibres are subject to change?
@@drandygalpin So, I play basketball... I have a 38 inch vert and I am 27 years old... If I quit basketball and work everyday with heavy weights and plyos will my muscles turn into fast twitch?
Is there any possible way to get more type 2b muscle fibers. I read something about velociphin that was really interesting. it is a injectable substance which builds type 2b fibers.

I just wish i would have discovered this 7 years!
Awesome explanations!

Far too kind, Sir. Glad I could bring you some entertainment and joy!
Absolutely love how you dive into the history of muscle fiber type research!

Fantastic series Dr. Galpin! Great info and presented very well!
Comprehensive muscle history explained. Thanks
my 5th video still watching and learning. thanks andy
You are amazing for putting this content out. Thank youuuu.
Wonderful video, thanks for sharing your knowledge :)
Thank you so much for your great vids :) They are so interesting and perfectly explained...Really appreciate your work

I'm honored. Thank you.
again nailed it to the bone!

Yes, all fiber types can change.

do the muscle cells recover from the biopsy?
I wonder what a horse has in terms of fiber types because they are incredibly fast, strong and tons of stamina
i think just a shit ton more muscle mass tbf (laughing emoji x2 {I'm on my mac and i don't know how to put emojis here. my bad})
Over long distance humans outrun horses, so you'd guess they have more fast twitch fibres.

"it is a injectable substance" = that should immediately trigger hundreds of red flags.
do you have any references to studies that show, multiple types of MHC on a single muscle fiber. Have a buddy that needs a reference for a paper.
dr G. rewatching this one.... askin my self:
are only human muscke cells multi nuclear or are animanl muscle cells multinuclear aswel ? 🤔
Fiber type is apparently determined by the nervous system more than anything else. This has been observed many times.
