I have a book on classical interiors and it describes "simple" versus "elevated" rooms like this: The order is in the wall itself, even if it only reveals itself as a baseboard, but as rooms become more important (or elevated) the order reveals itself more and more. The most elevated would be the order itself completed revealed in all its glory, columns and all.
So helpful and impressive to see Brent put together moldings for various rooms. Love to see a presenter show the theory then actually do it getting sweaty and dirty like we all do installing moldings.
I am not sure if you are doing this but it appears you are "coloring" the video in a way to make it look older, I think that works for this topic. So if you did this on purpose, good job!
I have a question about the way that you bumped out the stool, and returned it into the chair rail. I'm guessing that since you made the chair rail on the fly that it is a different profile then the profile on the windowsill. This has been on my mind for a couple of weeks now. If you don't mind please enlighten me so I can get some sleep! Thank you
I have seen plenty of homes where the Taenia and Cornice are wooden moldings but the Frieze is the drywall simply painted the color of the moldings. Should the Frieze be lifted off the wall by a wooden molding if you have a Taenia and the molding doesn't terminate?
how would this hierarchy translate to more modern styles? I have seen them a few times but the thought process should be the same as this I assume or are there different focal elements that are of importance in new style architecture.
I would love to see a more realistic set with an actual ceiling and so on so he could show the exact process he uses for glue-ups and nailing. Also there should have been more close-ups of the different crowns at the end. That said, awesome video! There's just so much I would love to learn from this guy, I wish it was an hour long video instead of 20 minutes.
