    I love TSM mechs with hatchets for the extra fear of head capping my enemy's command mech. Some of my favorites are the Nightsky that you mentioned, the Black Knight BL-10-KNT (Ross), and the Ti Ts'ang TSG-9H. People often forget the -1 modifier to hit you get with Hatchets, but that combined with the double damage and the ability to use the punch location table (with a +4 target mod) makes the option of a TMM mech with a hatchet, tons of fun. Never forget that -1 mod, especially when using the punch location table so that the +4 can be reduced to a +3.

      I think it's just better to punch tbh. Anything 5+ tons will headcap with TSM active, and you get 2 chances rather than 1, at a better to-hit modifier. For me, hatchet mechs are there to make more options for attacking in melee, such as attacking something 1 level above you. 1 big hatchet swing at -1 to hit that will pierce armor is better than 2 punches is better in many cases.
      FR tho I love TSM. It is super powerful!

      @@TheManyVoicesVA you are definitely not wrong. That said, with the hatchets it's also not just about that possible head hit if you can get into the rear arc (admittedly easier with the Nightsky or Ti Ts'ang than the Black Knnight.) In the rear, even if you miss the head, that big hit can tear up that rear armor at a damage level that the 2 punches could only match if they hit the same rear torso section. That said, the extra difficulty modifier usually makes it so that using the punch table with a hatchet is something that only happens about 1 time a game, whereas the punches would be a constant threat.

      @@TheManyVoicesVA Well, there is the option of TSM mechs with swords also. While the damage is lower, you do get a better to hit modifier, and it is effectively kicking on the punch table. Vindicator 5L and 6L come to mind in particular, though there are heavier mechs that have this set up as well.

      @@LeftMech Ya Im looking at taking a No-dachi in an upcoming tournament. It uses quirks and SPAs so Im giving him natural aptitude:piloting. It has ECM so 3d6 drop lowest on melee, ghost targets and all PSRs... good luck knocking me down!!!

    I never liked TSM before until i got DFA by a Shrike with Talons. Never underestimated raw punching power.

    • @TheManyVoicesVA
      @TheManyVoicesVA  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Even just a kick is deadly. A No-dachi is 70 tons. It will kick you for 28 damage. Many mechs will just lose their leg to that. If you get softened up by a few shots to the leg, even assaults will lose a leg to that.

    I suspect if any clan would start using TSM in their 'mechs, you'll find it in Dark Age and onward Jade Falcon machines. They may be assholes, but they learned a lesson at Tukkayid that many of the other clans didn't.

      Talons! Talons+TSM is a disgusting combo. You can just rip heavy mechs' legs off in a single strike!

    Clans use TSM in Dark Age/IlClan, check Kontio (if i remembere name right), ghost bear stealth tsm for rasalhague freeborn.
    Also, share my oversrupid Hatamoto Chi because that machine is my first good custom configuration in all rite, as i think.
    Basically Hatamoto Chi, same armor, endo steel, tsm, sword (because i love melee weapons), ER Large, 4 medpulse (firt that was a ER Medium lasers because i hate pulse lasers, but you know, before clan invasion) and small laser for heat calibration (and lorewise kill infantry). 10 double to overheat that boy, but still shooting
    And yes, XL, but that shit have basic 5/8/5, yes, it's jumps. In ideal it runs to 12 hexes and headcapping like a god. Or butchering backs, medpulses in right and left torso.
    Maybe it's not best tsm mech, because you know, sword, but i like it, especially with SPA and ATOW ability's.
    Also i can't say know, but i think i set ECM there for Ghost Targets and because i hate that stupid that got in Jihad, but i am not sure that was in its last iteration.

      Interesting. Ya I am not a big fan of XL engines in TSM mechs for many reasons. 1 really big one is that they can take engine crits in side torsos, which messes up your heat calculations.
      Also, any mech that wants to be point-blank should be as durable as possible. It does help the mech to go faster though, and/or carry more weapons.
      Sounds like a cool mech tho! I am not a fan of melee weapons outside of campaign. When you can get melee master, a hatchet is really insane. Kicks are so good, and a 1/6 chance at a headshot with punching is great.

    • @barondiamondo6676
      @barondiamondo6676 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@TheManyVoicesVA Thanks! But it is durable, pulse lasers eat crits, ecm eat crits, jump jet eats 1 CT and leg crits. Hatamoto is good armored 15.5 armored mech and with that speed/jumping it a good enough. I get TA crits in CT than in torsoes, so, XL not a problem.

    I made a 100 tonner based on the Kodiak called the Cave Bear, TSM + claws and a super-charger. Its horrific, 2 x 34 point punches will obliterate damn near anything.

      @@sharlin648 Well there's your problem. You dont want ballistics on a TSM mech. It's likely to blow itself up if infernos are nearby! Try a bunch of standard medium lasers, a small laser or 2, and an extra long range weapon like an ERLL or something instead.

    Lover your stuff, man, but if you are trying to go ham with melee mechs, go level 4 Experimental rules with the interstellar operations book. You want a mech with Triple-Strength Myomer (Prototype) not the standard variant, found on page 104, a VDNI cockpit found on pages 67 and 116 under the MACHINA DOMINI INTERFACE game rules for WoB variants a pilot that has the VDI enhancement page 81 and Artificial Pain Shunt page 77, or better yet, Prototype Direct Neural Interface page 83. If building custom mechs, mechs with Direct Neural Interface do not require a gyro. Add a super charger and mix clan and innersphere tech for the best of both worlds, and make the Solaris VII mech of your dreams. I see you prefer to punch with the mechs, so add some claws. You still get to punch twice but do more damage.
    If you are not worried about balance and just want all-out fun, interstellar operations is the best book, even has wmd rules for nukes and bio weapons starting on page 166. Largest nukes do 6000 damage in ground zero.

      @TheManyVoicesVA  16 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I virtually never punch unless I have a head capping punch. TSM mechs are great at headcapping at 55+tons.
      Kicking is the way to go. Force a PSR and put that mech in the dirt!

    • @brandonwheeler5816
      @brandonwheeler5816 16 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @TheManyVoicesVA kicks are great. The Triple-Strength Myomer (Prototype) still doubles all physical damage like regular TSM but does not need the overheat to work.so kicking is great with it if you use level 4 rules. My friends and I usually only play level 1 and 2 rules since that is what we grew up with and is easier to balance, and do a quick game. Every now and then, it is fun to go all out with the level 4 stuff. Should you have the time to give interstellar operations a read, you can have some really fun games with it, especially fully combined arms.
