I've only played Persona 4 on old-school PS2 when it came out and bought it on a whim not knowing what it was, it even came with an extra CD for all the fantastic music it has! But I gotta say I haven't played P5 and only seen videos, is it really that much better?!
Ik it’s late but like, never really was into Persona always was kinda intimidated by it cause i played SMT once and didn’t know what was going on. P4G on the switch changed my mind entirely. I’ve sunk like 28 hours in and it’s only been a little bit since i bought the game. This game made me grind and have fun and remember what it was like playing games for hours on end as a kid versus recently where i played like one game of league or something and gassed myself out. TLDR P4G the 🐐, once I get all the endings imma move to P5R
P3P holds a special place for me, it was the first persona game I played , and it got me into the franchise. I would absolutely love to see Persona Q hit the switch
I love all the Megaten games on the Switch as for P3 Kotone's side is written better than Makoto's but still a VN and that's niche but P5R is still my favorite
I wouldn't even attempt ranking these games. Story-wise I like P3 the most, but P4's characters are my favorite. Playing P5 is the most enjoyable but that's because it has the technological advantage.
Persona 5 Royal: Have the Best GamePlay, Music, 2nd Best Story, 2nd Best Cast/Characters: Persona 4 Golden: Have the Best Cast/Characters, 2nd Best GamePlay 3rd Best Story, 3rd Best Music: Persona 3: Have the Best Story, 2nd Best Music, 3rd Best Cast/Characters and GamePlay
3 will always be mine. Best story and characters in my opinion, by a lot, and honestly I like the combat the most. It's clunky but 5 was just to easy while 4 felt like 3 but smoothed out for better and for worse. Just having 3 types of physical attacks gives a lot more variety to basic encounters. Also I think Portable just has best overworld, yes I know it's just a cursor, but by the fifth time I was in the 3D overworlds I was just annoyed at running around, takes too long. I'm impatient.
I had Revelations when it first came out on PS1, but I didn't really get into the series seriously until P3P, and that one is still my favorite of the social link trilogy, if only because it has a more oppressive mood that vibed with me better than than the more colorful and over-the-top P4 and P5. I've been hoping for a definitive version that includes the PS2 fully animated cut scenes, free movement, and extras alongside the female protagonist option and improvements from P3P, but so far, that hasn't happened, and at this point that feels like a slap in the face to fans, and that drops P3P just under P4G.
Until recently I never played or even heard of Persona, I saw a review of P5S and it looked amazing what put me off was the RTB so I sent the game back. I then saw P5R and found out the combat was turned based, so I bought the game and I’m now absolutely in love with it. So much so I ended up buying P5S again (haven’t played it again yet) but now I have a better understanding of the series I’m sure I will enjoy it.
Persona 4 golden was the first mainline persona I REALLY chewed through, but I've also had a lot of fun on the offshoots... I have several in my backlog as well, so I've got quite a bit of persona left to chew through
I honestly haven't played a single Persona game yet. I do have P5 on Switch from a Black Friday sale but have been afraid to start it because if I do get deep into it, then that's probably gonna be my life for a while.
P3P is my personal fav but I'm aware of it's short comings. So it's my third. P4G I like the setting and characters but the plot, not so much but the way the story is presented kinda won me. It has the most chill story imo with P3 being the darkest and P5 being in the middle. It's my second best. P5R overall wins for me. If we're talking about P5 vanilla, then P4G wins but I love what Royal did. It fixed the shortcomings of the vanilla version for me. Easily once of my best JRPG in a very long time.
Just got through playing P4 & P5 on PC, and while I agree P4's overall story is better, I enjoyed the social links, dungeons, and variety of activities more in P5. The party characters are a tie, as there are some in P4 that I like more than P5, but also vice versa. I think P5 does a better job of making the MC (Joker) feel less awkward in conversations. I get the silent protagonist trope is supposed to help with the self-insert idea, but it often does the exact opposite by making you unrealistically silly in your reactions. But in cutscenes & story dialogue, Joker actually does react quite a bit more, sometimes even saying the occasional line or two. Yes, there's still a lot of awkward nodding, but he still feels more like a real person than Yu.
Never played a Persona game but bought P5R as I was intrigued. But I keep hearing how great the story is in P4. Reality is I'll only ever have time to play one ...
Person 4 Golden has a far more interesting story. And I am someone who’s played the games since the 3rd one P4 is easily the best story out of the bunch. The characters and storylines of persona four just seemed the most believable and yet at the same time the most out there. The weak point of P5 is there’s basically no activities to do within the high school and the phantom thieves don’t really feel like legitimate friends they feel like people that are just stuck together because of the incidents going on. P4 I played in high school so it holds a special place in my heart but the characters even when I replayed recently as a grown-up they just feel so much more believable as a group of ragtag teenage friends.
These games pack far too much content for me to get them now, with my limited free time, but they are on my wishlist and I'll definitely get the mainline ones at some point. And thanks for this video, I was wondering which game to start with, and this video cemented my idea to start with P4G rather than P5R.
P5R is the first Persona game I've really tried to work my way through (still playing it). I played P5S for a bit, but for whatever reason it didn't really click strongly enough for me to want to finish it. Wondering if P4G is something I should check out after finishing P5R (assuming I do finish it). Is the story really that strong? Or should I simply finish P5R and move on to other things? Really on the fence with this one.
P4 is by far my favorite but the story isn't really anything special. The themes and core message is really strong tho. But the best part is definitely the gang, most of your enjoyement will come from watching the cutscenes of them hanging out and being dumbasses. I recommend you play it since if you manage the get attached to the characters no other game will give you the same experience as this one.
I would also say play without but there are some spoiler free tips such as how to get the true ending which you should check out becuz it is actually pretty easy to miss out on the true ending in persona 4
Never played any but admire the style. So for newcomers then it looks like 4 would be the recommended entry point. Then 5. Then go back for 3 and Strikers if you really dig it?
If I have to pick only the ones available then it's p5s, p4au, p5r, p3p and p4g. P1 is good and 2 is a masterpiece also I hope they release the rhythm games get released for modern systems they were great games and technically p4 one is part of the cannon story.
Just like p5 strikers is a Canon story follow up to persona 5. For some reason atlas likes to have sequels be different genres. The only exception is persona 2.
@@champdancer19 yeah the whole persona cannon story thing is interesting. Because even as far as I know even atlus or the persona team doesn't seem to see them as part of the main story but yet they continue the plot. All but the Q games and p3 and 5 dancing games they really don't progress the story.
I have no favorite because i dont have any of these persona on my switch. I've played Persona 4 back on ps2. That was a long time ago and i dont even remember much of it.
Epic Video Alex. Never played 3 however will wait for the remake (or play 3 on gamepass one day) 4 Golden to me was the best . 5 had the best Dungeons but I preferred 4's cast and the humour was top notch. Also no cat saying....go to bed....
Persona 3 and fes have to be my favourite entries, this is probably mostly due to nostalgia. At the time, it felt like a unique take on the genre. Persona 4 is a close second. I found 5 boring.
Persona 4 golden, persona 5 Royal and persona 5 striker is my favorite and the best persona game for me on switch. They should remake persona 3 from ps2 version and port to switch. Psp version not for me.
I loved Persona 3 and Persona 4, but for some reason P5 just seems so boring that I don't even want to play it. I really liked the story of all SMT games but P5? I ain't reading allat 😂🔥🔥

P5R is my favorite. P4G is my second. I'm so excited for P6!
Agreed on everything you said

Agree completely about 4 being the best in the series. I’m so happy to finally get a chance to play the Golden version.
Never played a Persona game but I’ve been thinking of giving it a try with the switch release
Great price on P3P and P4!

I think that holds true for many, my first was 4 on the vita, I liked it so much I imported the Japanese persona vita
Why do you think I’m watching this video??? I have never touched persona (nor smt) once in my entire life
Even tho Persona 3 was my first persona game, Persona 5 Royal ended up being my favorite Persona game

persona 4 is my favorite game of all time. It's the best one because Yu is the king and the king's orders are absolute
Persona 5 Royal:
Have the Best GamePlay, Music, 2nd Best Story, 2nd Best Cast/Characters:
Persona 4 Golden:
Have the Best Cast/Characters, 2nd Best GamePlay 3rd Best Story, 3rd Best Music:

@@SwitchCorner persona 5 royal is my next beast, only about 5+ hours in it so far, but waiting for some time to really focus on it and get absorbed...
They really need to bring back FES because “the truth” even though wasn’t the greatest ending but it’s necessary for true persona fans.
No Problem with Persona 4 Golden being Number 1 even tho; I would have Persona 5 Royal there because both Games are MasterPieces

I really liked strikers, I can understand why you put a bit of a spin off into the ranking you did, but I would have put it higher :p

As someone who's never played any Persona, is it fine to jump in at P4G and then to P5R?
I've never played one before but have just started 4.
How are the initial impressions?
There is not best Persona game.
They are all great.
Thank you for coming to my TED talk.
Fair comment honestly!

@RandomDudes so it's like mass effect 2? With a great companion missions and bonding?
I'll have to take your word for it. Never played any Persona, seen some gameplay on Twitch, but nothing that has compelled me to want to play them.
I just picked up persona 4 golden to try on switch would you recommend using a guide or playing without
Play without, it always makes it clear what you need to do next. Dungeons need to be completed in X amount of days but enjoy all the days in between
I would also say play without but there are some spoiler free tips such as how to get the true ending which you should check out becuz it is actually pretty easy to miss out on the true ending in persona 4

1. Persona 2 | 2. Persona 4 | 3/4. Persona 5 | 4/3. Persona 3 | 5. Persona 1

Persona 3 FES > Persona 3 Portable
every day's great at your junes~
Persona 2 is the best game in the series psx or psp
Persona 4 golden, persona 5 Royal and persona 5 striker is my favorite and the best persona game for me on switch. They should remake persona 3 from ps2 version and port to switch. Psp version not for me.
Persona 4 i played it on ps2, vita and switch. Most favorite of all time 🙂
I have been wondering...
You played any of them?
Love all 3 games never beat 4 n 5 tho
I really want to download Persona 5 Strikers if I have the space - They need to make a 2 TB micro SD -
I tried to work my way through Persona 5 Royal and was bored to tears. I like Shin Megami a lot more.
It's a slow opening to Persona 5 Royal but worth it once it gets going
So glad to hear that I'm not alone in finding Persona less than exciting entertainment
Same for me 😅😂
