I had a great conversation with a Nigerian Uber driver last week. His friendly, enthusiastic accent made him such a joy to talk to
I was the uber driver

My husband is Nigerian, Igbo, I love how everything is super descriptive. My father in law cracks me up. He can never answer something with a yes or no, he paints a picture with words for even the most basic questions.
😂 you are right! This is because the structure of our various local languages is very descriptive
Yep. In Igbo, rather than say 'you're entitled to your opinion!' which could sound rude, we would drop an adage, 'wisdom is a handbag, each man carries his own.'
@@mosesokezie-okafor5672 🙌🏾
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣welcome
Hello Wifey. We love you 🇳🇬🇳🇬🇳🇬🇳🇬
“You have to be willing to be an idiot to learn a new language.”
Having learned a couple of languages, I can attest to the complete truth of that assertion.
Absolutely. Overthinking is the death of fluency. And I say that as someone who overthinks EVERYTHING.
100%. When I was learning languages in high school, I was terrified of making a mistake, so I never practiced speaking those languages. Fast forward 7 years, I was working in a restaurant, speaking multiple languages (especially Spanish) everyday. My language proficiency increased exponentially. The difference? I lost the fear of failure.
Honestly, and every tribe has it's accent when speaking English. It's really hilarious
As a Nigerian American I love him more for saying this because it's so true. The accent makes everything fun and makes the harsh harsher lol. 🇳🇬🇳🇬🇳🇬👍🏾
It's because of vaulance
Yes I agree, as a Nigerian Nigerian, we add spice to everything!, we bring life to the party, thats why we always create ways to be happy too
@@zainys6165 kpele nigerian nigerian, lol
That last part sounds like all the reports and literary people I know 😉🤓
@Zu Su I go
Asa Nigerian American, and being surrounded by Nigerians my whole life, this makes me happy!
Awww
Trevor is an accent genius. Listening to this and laughing in my Nigerian accent
Nigerian accent is like music to my ears. Shout out to all Nigerians out there 😊
🙌🙌🎉
Trevor would make a convincing Nigerian Prince🤑😂
Fake accent belong to my India only 🇮🇳
😂😂😂💔
Yooooo🥳
I guess Trevor is yet to find out about these hilarious combinations from Nigerians🤣🤣🤣
1. British: Knicker
American: Short
Nigerian: Short knicker
2. British: Salon
American: Barbershop
Nigerian: Barbing salon
3. British: So
American: Therefore
Nigerian: So therefore
4. British: Still
American: Yet
Nigerian: Still yet
5. British: Reverse
American: Turn back
Nigerian: Reverse and turn back
6. British: Tell me the reason
American: Tell me why
Nigerian: Tell me the reason why
7. British: Ten pounds each
American: Ten dollars each
Nigerian: Ten ten naira each
There are many other similar combinations in regular Nigerian English🤣🤣🤣
I am Nigerian and this is hilariously true🤣🤣
Hilarious😂!!
This is so trueee😂
That makes it even better! As Trevor said, English is too stiff. Hence, Nigerians spice it up with the repetitions, lol.
Reverse and turn back 😂
I agree. I learned Italian and Greek by myself exactly through talking and not being afraid of appearing like an idiot. And rhythm is key. I've met people who speak grammatically 100% right, but because of wrong intonation nobody understands them and I've met people who butcher the grammar horribly but communicate easily.
Never lose your accent Trevor ❤️
🤣
Congrats! 🎈
Yes, I'm a polyglot, and not having a fear of making mistakes is the main thing that makes me successful in language learning. Otherwise, I'd never speak the languages.
Lern Induan u monolingual beta
Donald Trump never makes a mistake while talking!
Guess that’s what eventually is the very reason he doesn’t even master his own mother language namely
-English for simple dumb farts people!-
No one makes me laugh more than Trevor Noah. His talent goes beyond multi layered. Nigerian, Australian, German or whatever, I adore him.
Fun fact he’s 🇮🇳 indian
Nigerian & Caribbean accents are music to my ears! Such a great sound!
Yes! They do to English, what English desperately needs. They both make English sound honorable.
I laughed really hard. I'm a Nigerian and this is the first time I'm seeing someone do the Nigerian accent really well. More like an Igbo man 😂
You are absolutely right
Nigerian has a kind of musical rhythm to it. It's delightful! Hard not to smile when I hear it. As an American from the Pacific NW, a place known as having the "no accent" accent, better known as "American Newscaster," I love hearing someone who does have one. My husband is from Oklahoma, so he's got a U.S. South Western kind of drawl. It's adorable! Our son sounds like a combo of both his parents!
My daughter was raised in California but reported to me with mild irritation that she got irritated one day and her friends were giving her odd looks because when she’s upset she suddenly has a Southern accent. I was born and raised in Louisiana…
As a Nigerian, this made me laugh 😂 😂 🇳🇬
Laughing in my thick Nigerian accent 😂
See as dem open our nyash for here. Laugh don finish me oh 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I love that Trevor always manages to exude an enthusiastic joy towards life.
I am norwegian. Norwegians accent of speaking english is not known to be specifically impressive though most of us at least speak it. I must say that personally i speak english fairly well because i happen to love the language and i love to dive into the different accents of it.
Many years ago, when i was working as a taxidriver in Oslo, a frenchman climbed into my cab and wanted to go to the airport. Fair enough. I spoke to him in my "flat, regular english, but he seemed to have difficulties understanding me. Then a wild thought hit me and i just went for it. I switched to a form of english with a frenchlike accent. And then he understood me perfectly.
I’m Chinese American born and raised in California. I once dated a French man. It was really hard to understand his French-accented English. So, I understand your story very well. Lol
🤣🤣🤣
Been multiple times to Norway, not impressive but well to understand. Been to sweden, that's some weird accent.
I am French American and raised in Canada, moved to the United States, then went to Argentina for some Llama training. We take great offense at your words about the French, sir!
@@trhansen3244 Wait, you can't just breeze past "Llama training" without explaining what it is 😂
Never heard language explained that way. Simply beautiful. Thanks for sharing your unique perspective 🥰
As a South African, Nigerians are by far are the funniest people I've ever met!
Agreed re the Nigerian accent and how they 'do' the English. I watch a lot of Nollywood just to practice. I love it - says a Jamaican!
I low-key knew that Trevor loves the Nigerian accent🤣. He always cracks up anytime he speaks to Nigerians in their element. Your Nigerian accent still needs work though, but I'm rooting for you Trevor💯🙌
I love that he includes "ah ah" after sentences! My husband is Yoruba, and watches Nollywood films and comedians on TH-cam sometimes. The lip smacking or "aye's" are ever present!
Am Ugandan but love speaking in Nigerian accent, some Nigerians even mistake me for a true Nigerian hahah
Came for the comedy, stayed for the useful language learning advice
I want my GPS to have Trevor’s doing Nigerian accent.
"Avoid the left turn because of its irritable bowel syndrome eh"
They should totally get on that. Google you know you want to do this.
Hire me, am as Nigerian as can be but seriously, we bring fun and life to everything!
His Nigerian accent is actually really bad, like to a Nigerian it does not sound like any of the tens of accents we have. It's like someone trying to do a French accent but ends up sounding Spanish.
😆 but his jokes are funny, so we let it slide.
@@emmanuelokoye4824 well he did say he was doing a Nigerian accent that he heard. There was another between the scenes where he explained that that's how he comes up with the accents it's basically off of what he's heard other friends like talk so if it's not perfect you know why but it sounds pretty close
As a Nigerian I'm proud and happy of this video 😂😂😂😅😊💚❤🇳🇬🇳🇬.
Woow......felt really special being a Nigerian reading and all the comments and most especially hearing Trevor do the do...lol.....He is absolutely right, there is always drama in the way we express ourselves and that's what makes it fun....Love you Trevor Noah.
As a Nigerian, this is hilarious that's why we have so many notable writers like chimamanda and Co... The metaphors come from our languages
Yes rasist word funny
You have notable writers?
@@trhansen3244 tell me you don't read without saying it. Lol
@@thebearszn LOL Learn English!
@@trhansen3244 what are you on about? A Nigerian has won the Nobel Prize for literature and you say there are no notable Nigerian writers. You are a nameless, faceless troll. Nothing more.
What a beautiful thing to say about the Nigerian accent. I must admit it is a pleasingly sing-song accent. They seem to be bringing emotions into everyday chatter. Go Nigeria 🇳🇬 👏
We love you too
Where's the lie, this was hilarious 😂😂
😑
That Nigerian accent though 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 #I❤️ Nigeria
As a Nigerian i can confim this. i think we have the highest
Number of slangs in the world😂🖐
I’m half Nigerian and half South African and it’s so beautiful to hear this
Exactly Trevor , and you really killed it 👍👍. Nigerian 🇳🇬 accent with so much flavors 💃.
Much love from Nigeria 🇳🇬🇳🇬 Just couldn't stop laughing 😂😂
I agree with you Trevor....
Am in South Africa as well but I love Nigerian accent... They are so rythimic, emphatic, expressive etc. You hit the nail on the head... 😂😂😂😂. Please Thumps up if you agree with me...
I love south African accent, but I am Nigerian
Oh please don’t make us blush ☺️ 🇳🇬
Trevor's Nigerian accent is the best of them all, I love Nigerians accents.'💙👈🏽
Trevor Noah One of my favorite human 🥰beings….He’s intellectual he’s funny, thought provoking, intriguing and interesting ect.
Trevor is right on point. The Nigerian accent is my favorite as well.
Yes Trevor yes
Even in all our suffering 🤣🤣
Nigerian here! 😂😂 he was spot on!
I Love Trevor Noah’s humor so much… ♥️♥️♥️ his Nigerian accent is hilariously on point!!!
Trevor has the most perfect dental formula.he looks like he has clean breath all the time.I don’t know but I love his mouth 😂😂
This is the most down bad comment I've ever seen on TH-cam 🤣🤣
...I know EXACTLY what you mean 😂 What is that about him??
Yeah, no joke. The Nigerian accent is FUN. I mean, don't get me wrong, I still love how the Scottish dialect sounds - it's so earthy - but the Nigerian accent is fun AF. I wish I could get those intonations right, but it hasn't really clicked yet how it works.
Trevor, you never stops amazing me with your talents!👏🏽🎤👏🏽
yea you do not know real comcdy making fun of another person not funny its sad
I'm a Nigerian and I can totally relate. We make almost everything sound better than it actually is. 😂😂
Did you know that English was the 4th language Trevor learnt as a kid after learning Xhosa at home, Zulu and Sotho from the kids on the street.
A fair amount of South Africans are multilingual. Most know their home language, then learn English at school, and pick up others from friends.
I can hear him forever!😍 Such a lagend🔥
I'm Nigerian but I love South African accent... I think it's beautiful how we love each others accents...
I Love south African accent too ,I am also Nigerian
His German, Russian and Nigerian accents are top for me
I agree,Nigerian accent is interesting 😂
Hahaha ha-ha truth he speaks only the truth 🤣🤣🤣
I love accents so much! Experimenting with different accents is so much more fun than saying things the same old way all the time. It never occurred to me that they're one of the gateways to learning to speak a new language, though it makes perfect sense the way Trevor explains it!
I knew it would be Nigerian😹
Thanks Travor,I love all you do🤗👍
Nigerian accent is my favorite too! It's mesmerizing and fun. Close second is Pakistani accent.
I was always ashamed to speak to people with my Nigerian accent. Someone once told me I sound like a robot. Now I'll feel better speaking with my accent
Speaking as a white guy, who enjoys voice work and impersonations, I'm always hesitant that I'm just going to be misconstrued. I enjoy foreign accents, even mispronunciations, because there's so much more personality than you can't get with American white guy accents. The only accents I don't enjoy are upper class British English accents, especially when they have that inflection of pronouncing certain words as if they're talking down to you. "It's not 'vertebrae', it's 'ver-ta-BRY'!" But did you know what I was saying? Then stow it!
How’s the barbecue
That was spot on.
How does Trevor Noah make me like him more n more in EVERY GENRE of himself???
I love his french accent.
Trevor is amazing. :)
We the ones ☝️Mr. Trevor🇳🇬🇳🇬🇳🇬🇳🇬
Nick Mullen's Nigerian accent = Excellent 👌
I love Trevor!
Glad I'm not the only one who finds the Nigerian Accent interesting and entertaining ^.^
Can I just say all accents are amazing
My favorite is Aussie or Kiwi, and I suspect this is because I grew up in an area where it was not uncommon to hear the Valley Girl accent of California and they all go up in intonation at the end of sentences but the Aussie and Kiwi do it with some of the words too. It's such a fun sound to my ears somehow.
Amazingly great
It’s the Eh Eh Eh for me 😂🤣😂😂😂 Trevor na werey 😂🤣😂
It's the eh eh eh for me 🤣🤣
Love you Trevor for loving the IGBO accent
Ahhhhhhhh🇳🇬🇳🇬🇳🇬🇳🇬🇳🇬

If American is like triangles, Nigerian is like squares. Does that make sense to anyone else?
i love this show way too much. Trevor is genius he should be in the movies too.
he did do black panther
He ain't lied! 😆
I love Trevor. So beautiful.😍
I love the part about willing to be an idiot to learn a new language. I agree, people are too afraid to speak.
I wanna learn Italian. Just haven't gotten around to it
@@porfiriato84 a great place to start is duolingo. Try repeating the words the way they're read by the app. A lesson or two a day go a long way!
Congrats for 10M
This guy! 🤣🤣😅
Love you so much
Love you Trevvie.
He's SO RIGHT about the rhythm of languages! I speak French with a near native accent because I learned it as a child, but I forgot most of the grammar/vocab later on. In middle and high school I took French and was able to pronounce everything very well; after many years I noticed my classmates did manage to learn to pronounce some of the harder sounds correctly, but they still sounded like they were speaking English most of the time. It wasn't the grammar or the individual pronunciation, but the rhythm and pitch of their sentences that created that feeling of someone speaking French but not being a native speaker. Noticed I had this issue too when I then went to learn Italian; the rhythm I used for my sentences was all off. It's not just pronunciation, though French teachers will stress that the most because the French can't really abide by poor pronunciation 😅 The rhythm matters even more, in my opinion.
thanks for the content... LETS GET U TO 10M SUBS!!!!!!!!!!!
If you like Nigerian accent then you should check out 'Bob hearts Abishola'.. it's a hilarious show that has Nigerians living in the US as main characters..
I agree !!
That's the show that came to mind when Trevor mentioned Nigerian accent 😂
That show has more of a yoruba Nigerian accent not the average one
Interesting talks ❤
Broadly, African accents are quite pleasent to listen to and are to me in highest regard, joyful memories there includung french speaking former french colonies. Turns out french native speakers are capable to speak english, if they are africans.
Otherwise I can't stress enough to mimic anything until it sounds right while learning a language. Plus you get used to otherwise difficult to understand local accents. Learning plain standard falls apart facing locals.
I too love Nigerian accent, great show
Kenyan accent is my favorite. Very relaxing.
Hilarious 😆😆😆
You already speak multiple languages, and are from South Africa and a multiple Emmy nominee... heaven help us 🤭
Trevor is the best.
Lol being looking for this video. Lol I'm a Nigerian 😃😃
