You can’t say “Australia” is expensive because it’s not, maybe Sydney is but Perth is cheap to live. Wages are way higher in Perth than anywhere else in Aus

Good point. Saying Australia is expensive is like saying Europe is expensive. Oz is the larger than Europe & spans multiple climates with bugger all people. Smaller regional centres in each of the states vary wildly in cost. Best to think of each of our states as separate countries! Heres a tip . South Australia is one of the cheapest states!

hello person yep pretty much. Weather so much better. Wages are high. Beaches are the best in Aus. And houses are ridiculously cheap.
A lot of the negatives here can just be solved by NOT living in Sydney.

@@australianpatriot Horseshit. Sydney is a basket case. So is Melbourne. Most other major cities are far superior. Even better are the minor ones. I grew up in Sydney and I love meeting people that think it's nice. Where did you stay? I ask them. "Oh. in a hotel in Darling Harbour". Yeah... You won't be living there. Go check out Blacktown or Liverpool. Make sure you don't check them out after 10pm so the ethnic gangs don't attack you. Go try and drive anywhere between 7am and 9am. Getting out of that shit hole was the best decision I ever made in my life. Living on the Gold Coast now, 20 minutes from the best beaches in the world, in a house that cost me 400 thousand about 9 years ago. And I can get in my car and actually drive places without it taking an hour to get a bottle of milk. And a bunch of tattooed idiots having a drunken bar fight makes the news here, because that's about as bad as the crime gets. A bunch of tattooed idiots having a drunken bar fight was regarded as quaint where I grew up in Mount Druitt.
Darling, I have been to Adelaide for 22 years and I wouldn't replace it with anything in the world. As someone who went through the war in Sarajevo and Bosnia and Herzegovina, I appreciate everything in this country. Learning pattern, my dear. That's all what you need here. My workmates told me once: If you don't like, leave it. If I have to choose between spiders and war, I would rather go for spiders. Come to Adelaide. Houses are cheaper and look very nice. I do have nice trees not far away from my house, and the sound of birds in the morning is priceless. I have a nice view of neighbouring golf course, horse track goes through my street and the smell of beautiful, light breeze from the ocean in evenings. Priceless. Wouldn't trade it for anything. All the best from South Australia!👍 P.S. And, yes, internet is crap, I agree with that. Hope it will be better for the Champions League final. Go, The Reds!
Out of curiosity are you renting or did you buy your house several years ago?
@@britjj5126 I paid it off ten years ago with a help of my late parent. After the closure of a local company, used a redundancy payment and injury compo to reduce off-set account balance. When the balance was in plus, I decided to clear that off. Best decision in my life. But the houses were more affordable then they are today.
Davor Lovric Sounds like you got your house at a good time. People are cottoning on to Adelaide being affordable driving prices up though.
@@britjj5126 Yes, it was a good time. Former PM John Howard gave 14.000 dollars grant for the first home buyers who decided to build a house, and 7.000 dollars for those who wanted to buy an established house. As soon as I was made permanent, my late mother and I went for a casual drive around and ended up at a local builder's office. After a few days, we bit the bullet and decided to have our house built. I feel sorry for the younger people today who find it very difficult to get into home market. It's not fair. I live in a southern suburb of Adelaide and everything is so close. Adelaide is one big building site with roadworks connecting various parts of the city, overpasses, underpasses and so on. It's already looking much better, and, yes, the houses here are cheaper and better looking then more expensive ones in Sydney or Melbourne. You can get a nice 3 bedroom house for around 350.000 dollars easy or maybe a little bit more. Where I live, there are many people from UK. In my street, there is a young man who supports Liverpool, another older guy supports ManU and I fancy Liverpool, so it's aesy for me to have a nice chat about football or as they called it here soccer. Local AFL is very popular, I watch it but not as pationatelly as I watch " soccer". Optus is my saviour, otherwise I would go crazy watching local footy everyday. I wish you and all young people all the best in finding affordable homes. Hope these guys in Canberra will do something about it instead of fighting each other. Cheers!👍

It's so true what you say about the houses in Australia, most people buy the worst house on the best street and then if you have money renovate.
The symptoms were definately heat stroke (mild). Give it 1 year and you'll acclimatise. Look around for British grocery stores and you will find all the treats you like. And probably go to the most livable cities in Australia rather than the most expensive. Travel. See what you like. Hobart is similar weather too England. Cairns is pleasant all year round (once you get used to the humidity). And everyone likes their own City. If pick Brisbane, Gold Coast, or Melbourne but I haven't spent enough time in the other oners to really know them.
Perth was ridiculously over priced during the mining boom, rent and buying wise but that ended 5 years ago and since then , prices have come down by twenty percent. You can get a nice 2 or 3 bedroom villa, house or duplex etc in the south east suburbs for around $230 a week, you just have to pick and choose where as there are some scungy bits like anywhere else. Perth is a very pretty city, climate is bearable and cost of living same as elsewhere.
But no one wants to live in SE Perth 😂😂 you pay $240 a week to live in gosnells and no one wants to live in gosnells or surrounds 🤣🤣🤣
Perth is expensive if you visit for holiday but to live it’s the same as London I have found. I earn 4 times more then I did in London so it works out the same if you include wages and cost of living etc

Married to an Aussie, living in Perth for the last 14 yrs. He’s caring and we have two children. I love the weather, people are quite friendly, I enjoy food shopping here, but miss India so much when comes to shopping for clothes, jewellery and shoes and road side food. I applied for 50 jobs finally got one. Takeaways are extremely expensive and the portions are small, cost of living is high. But it’s clean and good health care and welfare benefits.
Completely agree with you. Hope you get over your homesickness soon :( I found that the hardest thing.

I was born in Perth I never realized how expensive things were, because I always relied on my parents.. and always thought Perth was so boring. It wasn’t till I moved to Canada in last year, made me realize how much I miss Perth. My friends, school, transportation, beaches and baldivis 😂 if ya know aha.

Australia has very diverse weather. Tasmania is similar to the UK ( with more Sun), and northern Queensland is pure tropics...
Come to Melbourne. More cosmopolitan, and cheaper too!

Brooke Ryan To be honest you sound like a whinging Ozzie. I didn’t feel she was running Australia down at all but making her own assumptions of how different she expected your country to be. The UK is far from perfect but I’ve yet to find a country that is! 😊
Great video, I really enjoyed it. Your honesty and down to earth facts is what I found really refreshing. I grew up in the shire (38 Years) and lived in Cronulla for 8 years just around the corner from Northies (the old Northies with the veranda, where I spent many a Sunday afternoon). I now live in the UK and have been for 18 years. I can relate to what you are saying and both countries have their positives and negatives. Like always try and enjoy the moment and see the positive things. All the best to you and your partner.
London is way more expensive, except for food. Over all quality of life + income is far better in Australia
Redback spiders are the most common ones you will see . In garage corners, under the bin, literally have them on my front steps as i walk out the door.
See Gee I was lucky enough to see only 2 small spiders the whole time I was there! Cockroaches were the worst 😳
If anyone moves to Australia and lives in Sydney or Melbourne.... you’d want your head read..... overpriced,horrendous rents and forget about buying there.,. Try Perth, Adelaide or Brisbane ...
Canberra is surprisingly good I've discovered, near many nice places but not crowded.
Sydney, (I live in Sydney,) and Melbourne, (my husband works and commutes to Melbourne,) are great but it is true that the other three are way better. You’re better off living in Brisbane and flying to anywhere you like for the weekend - it will still be cheaper and a more relaxed lifestyle.

Oh and the birds you can hear at 1:36 are corellas, with possibly a cockatoo with them. The huge flock of birds in the shopping centre are often lorikeets though I have seen fig birds behave the same. They roost in the stands of trees in shopping centre car parks because they are safe from predators. Sometimes it can be deafening dawn and dusk. Yes the birds here are fantastic. When I went to the UK for 2 years I went through homesickness there and just the sound of an Aussie bird would flood emotions through me.
Hi I live here in adelaide its more quiet than sydney cheaper but transfortation is harder in the weekend only bus available train station is part in city and glenelg beach im 22 km away from the city the parking is cheap
Yes , because England is so small,..everything is nearby and close..this means you can walk to places without a car..Many shops to look at ,so lots of choices. I understand about being homesick.
I agree regarding the public transport. It's miles ahead of anywhere in the US. The only thing I thought was odd were the groups of armed transit guards at every metropolitan station in Melbourne. For a safe city, it seemed a bit strange that dudes were decked out so heavily, even in the middle of suburbia.
We are from the UK. The big thing is home sickness. Some people head back to england stay there for a winter and end up coming back. You need to persist. Get established and when you can travel. You tend to only remember the good things from back home and forget the bad. Watch out for huntsman spiders they are big but not dangerous. If you are in Sydney then be careful of funnel web spiders. I am from Melbourne a more relaxed place. Those birds sound like Rainbow Lorikeets. We get lorikeets, rosellas, cockatoos, butcher birds, magpies, galahs (a nickname for an idiot in australia), currawong and wattle birds(very aggressive to other birds. Sometimes we hear kookaburras in the trees.

Errrrr in 3 years I’ll be in Australia and I’ve never had a phobia. I can easily stand on a ledge or get locked into a box. The only fear I have is an extreme fear of spiders, won’t have a problem with that right……………oh wait
Aussieland has 7 climatic zones. Melbourne lies in Mediterranean zone. Cheaper, a bit cold though. Sydney is clumsy and sweat s lot during warm weather.
Melbourne is classified as temperate and Sydney isn’t even in the tropics.....
Melbourne/Hobart are temperate, Perth/Adelaide are Mediterranean, Sydney/Brisbane are subtropical, Darwin is tropical. Note: western sydney is much drier and hotter during summer, and cooler during winter.
God i cant imagine actually wanting to live in england over australia. So much better down here. I find british ppl were so rude aswell, aussies seem friendly and more open.

its not bad, the grass is green ,have u ever tasted ambrosia creamed rice, the weather cant be that bad, the romans were here for 400 years, saxons vikings etc, there's nothing to do in austraila, its a boring place, nothing exciting happens ,apart from get eating by a shark ,etc a mean, where can u get on ye door step 2 weeks a year the greatest race in the world, the T.T, a would be bored living in aus, no prob with the people cool enough, leave me alone with me world heritage sites

I just moved to aus from England. As a teenage girl I can say:
-people are even more rude
-sport is huge
-your hair and skin is never clean
-no one knows how to make a cuppa
-coffee is fancy
-rain is beautiful
-insects fricken everywhere
-wet costumes everywhere
-never enough towels
-grapes are mega expensive
-pretty birds
-they have an English section
-every thing is organic
-more English people than I would think
-people walk around bare foot
-not joking they don’t wear shoes
-like anywhere
-not even in shops
Hope this prevents any of u making the same mistakes as my family 🤣

Sevira Asynjur your skin and hair needs cleaning so often because of the sweat and grime. Australians are usually okay to your face but on social media and driving in their cars they can be really rude and don’t realise how lucky they are to be in their country

The price of fresh produce like bananas fluctuates depending on whether they're in season and how good the growing conditions are. A few years ago when a cyclone wiped out much of the banana crops in QLD the price went up to about $15 per kg. You'll find our supermarkets do their best to sell Aussie produce to support our farmers and try not to import where possible, and if it's not in season it's going to cost more.
Sydney is so expensive in general.. 10/10 recommend moving elsewhere in Aus lol :)

The birds in the video with the date palms sounded like lorikeets, not magpies. Where I live, in the hills outside Perth where there is still some natural forest with big trees, the magpies for miles around, all sing on moonlight nights. They sound like hundreds of barbershop quartets. Clear and flute-like up close ranging to soft and muffled in the distance.
It takes awhile to adapt to another country...you get use to different things,..
If you want a break from the intense heat and flys, get on a plane and come to Hobart. Australia’s secret garden, Tasmania! Absolutely beautiful.
Chocolate is a different recipe here because the melting point of UK chocolate is too low. Uk bars here would need refrigerating from factory to store and would even melt getting it to your car, so when you opened it it would be melting onto the wrapper. Sorry but they have had to change it so it no longer tastes as rich and creamy (that chocolate liqueur percentage is reduced).
I feel like I need to clarify that I don’t hate Australia and I actually really love living here lol

I'm 13, live in UK and ever since I can remember I've wanted to live in Australia. I've never even been there but there's something about it that makes it amazing and different compared to other places. I also plan to get a paramedic science degree to be a paramedic as I love helping people and medical skills. Are medical staff needed in Aus? I know I'm very young and anything can change but I'm just curious:)

Ella Kurm so I actually ended up coming home, I was so homesick and we decided to come back after 8 months. My boyfriend has Australian citizenship so we were planning on applying for a de facto visa. There’s so many options though, if you have a job on the skilled list you can get it, some people go to college/university on a student visa and stay there afterwards. So many different options to looks into :)

Know this is year later and I hope your dreams are still alive... Medical and paramedic staff are always wanted in Australia, but when you get to that point you will need to check the immigration policies of the day.
I too had a dream as a young teen in the UK to live in Australia... came here when I was 24.... still here 35 years on! It's a wayyyyyyyyy better lifestyle than the UK.
Best thing is You Go Back , saves us listening to you that has to be a Saving .
Its good that the title includes "Sydney". Your observations (prices, weather, public transport...) are only relevant for that time and place. Even though Australia does not have many people there is huge diversity/difference between price, weather, food, language, .... Having lived in a few countries i only compare specific things now. When people ask for general comparisons i ask them what they actually want know.
I can understand you being homesick for sure, I’m Australian and get homesick every time I leave the country.
After just coming back from Europe recently I so appreciate the weather here, the beautiful brightness here. I really disagree with your take on our chocolate though lol... it must really be a case of being use to what you grew up with because I honestly think our chocolate is so much nicer than England’s. However my beautiful British friend constantly says how much better it is in England. I hope you can enjoy your time here but don’t move from your family permanently, nothing can replace them.
Deanne Mcgready it’s all just what people are used to, I am slowly getting used to your chocolate here so not all bad anymore. Every time we get family coming over to stay with us we make them bring English chocolate and then I realise what I’m missing 😂 we’re actually planning on heading back to England after a year as the homesickness still isn’t great. How long are you in Europe for?
I thought England's version of the Cadbury Time Out chocolate was way better than Australia's. I wished I could buy it here.
It's good you are in Cronulla as you'll get an idea of life in the 'burbs which is how a lot of Aussies live. Yes, things are expensive but wages can be higher too. Yes it rains...some Sydney suburbs get DOUBLE the annual precipitation of London. Yes, it is not 30 celsius all year long. Suburbs away from the coast go down to 0 - 5 c on July nights and the upper Blue Mountains can be negative territory. Chocolate is rubbish to preserve it from the heat. There are some shops that do hand made though...look for those. The fruit though is luscious. Eat that! Good review!

Internet: It depends on the service you subscribe to like everywhere else. The top speed at the moment is delivered by the National Broadband Network (NBN) at 100Mbs. Most Australians are moving to the NBN from cable (30Mbs) and ADSL2+ (20Mbs) with either the 100Mbs or 50Mbs plans. 100Mbs costs about $85 per month, and the 50Mbs around $65 for unlimited downloads.
Most services in the UK are slower. You must have lucked out with the place you were staying at.
Weather: Sun is vicious. Sunscreen and wear a hat.
Housing: Most houses are air conditioned and have heating. Can't talk for rental properties.
Transport: As good as the UK in most places. Australia is big so very small towns in the outback may not have any public transport. Perhaps the odd bus. Sydney and Melbourne with populations of 5 and 4 million have well developed infrastructure. Busses, trains, ferries, taxis etc.
Flies: Learn to talk with your mouth closed.
Work: 4 weeks leave and lots of public holidays. Long service leave of 3 months after 10 years.Good work life balance. Work from home options. Helps to have a degree and be well qualified in your chosen profession.

John Smith in my small town it takes about 10 minutes to drive from one side of town to the other 😂. There are no busses but we do have taxis.
Where did you get that internet in uk is slower than Australia? Do you work for NBN or something? I left the UK in aug 2017 and my medium speeds were 200mbs and I’m lucky to get 45mbs right now. I get the 4G-5G networks are better for sure but home internet is shockingly bad! Barely scrapes top 30 in the world
Fruit prices, you have to find a fruit shop that sells “rejected” fruit. The fruit that does not meet the exact size or shape that is required by big chain supermarkets. At my local I can buy large melons for 99c each. Bananas for $1.99 a kg. Huge cauliflowers etc. These shops are gems, and are often called fruit markets. They are so cheap you will never buy fruit in Coles or Woolies again. And the quality is great, just very large or small, curled or with a tiny mark on the skin etc. I buy a fully trolly load of fruit and veggies for $30.

I feel like the posts you'd heard about Australia were all about Brisbane haha, it is sunny all year round and winter days are 18° but nights can sometimes get to 0° and it also has bad public transport

Why are so many Australians posting that she's whinging when she clearly isn't. It's because she's British. I'm pretty sure if the same video was made by a Swede, or a French person the aussies wouldn't even mention the word 'whinge'.

I found the animal cruelty very hard to deal with in Australia. I know it is bad in UK but Australia was another level. Dogs suffered the worse. Beaten for smallest of reasons, kept permanently in yards dispite awful heat or storms. Regularly left unattended in yards when owners travelled, rarely walked etc etc. Cats were the target of cruel acts and deliberately hit on roads or had poison laced milk placed out , as were not liked, wildlife also subjected to very nasty attacks etc etc. I was 17 years in Qld so can't speak for other states.
Australia has some of the strictest Anti cruelty laws with some states having monitory reporting if you witness cruelty, this includes Queensland.
@@TheAndymuns nothing was ever done when reported. The Rspca would rarely respond as so understaffed. As far as wildlife was concerned, things we witnessed or was reported in newspapers, would be too distressing for me to write about. 😢
@@krisjames4276 Things have changed, these days you can also report it to the police. In last 10 years the board of the RSPCA in Queensland has been replaced because of corruption. The way things are done now has improved. I sorry we even need to hunt feral animals but it is done to protect native wildlife. but it needs to be done humanly.

You need to up your salt and water intake if you get headaches in the heat. You need more than 5g of good quality salt a day to absorb a sufficient amount of water to hydrate your cells. Also when you said about veg being expensive, how about frozen veg? Whats that like out there? And how much is meat?
blaneysiktube thanks for the advice, I definitely don’t think I have enough sugar!! We tend to eat peppers and courgettes a lot so cant really buy them frozen but I’m sure normal frozen veg is just as good. Meat seems to be a teeny bit more expensive but very good quality, it just seems to fresh fruit and veg that is expensive when we brought out of season, we’re learning slowly! 😁

But wages is way bigger in Australia than UK...I also lived in UK before but life is way better in Australia...If you are coming from overseas you think it is expensive here but if you actually live and work here everything would be so affordable..
John A just like a Brit choosing to move to Spain or Norway. $500 a week in Spain could go far but definitely not in Norway but the wages of the locals easily exceed it.
Just by the noise, I think the noisy birds you saw are Rainbow Lorikeets (bestbirdphotos.com.au/bird-photos/rainbow-lorikeet/), sometimes called Rosellas. They are affectionately called clown birds by some because of their antics when feeding in the trees, they climb tree branches with their bodies at odd looking angles, hang upside down and move along branches that way as well. I try to photograph them when ever I see them feeding. When they are not making that loud squawking noise, they can sing sweetly as well.
The caveat is that public transport is not good in the major cities. If you want to travel between cities, especially in regional areas, you have to be able to drive or fly. And in some large towns, the public transport is dreadful - I’m from Ballarat which had a bus system that nobody really used because it was so inefficient so we all just drive everywhere.
I moved from Victoria to the UK and honestly the heat here in Birmingham is awful compared to home - 28-30 degrees in the UK feels like 35 back home. I think Aussie summers are usually quite a dry but intense heat, which is hot but bearable. Whereas a heatwave in the UK is sooo humid and airless and sticky and I sweat way more here than I ever did in Australia. I also get sunburnt here really fast so in that sense it’s not that different between the two countries.
Sydney is crazy expensive. Melbourne isn’t much cheaper. Basically once you get out of the inner cities the cost of living goes down.
We have Freddo Frogs in Oz. Lots of them in different flavours. We have amazing chips, especially Red Rock Deli chips. I miss them a lot. Australian biscuits are amazing, I miss them too! I honestly find UK chocolate a bit too sweet compared to Aussie chocolate but England does have amazing food too. options.
Public transport seems pretty good in Brisbane.

You know how everyone wants to move to LA in U.S. in Australia people who come overseas to live here in Australia they all always wanna live in Sydney. Sydney is one our most expensive cities beside Melbourne but Brisbane and Adelaide Perth and Gold Coast are our other cites no one moves or go to and rent and cost of living is much lower in Adelaide and Perth than Sydney
A lot of things have changed in Australia, we use to call it the lucky country and in some ways it is however prices on most items have gone sky high and our vegetables are a total rip off, 10 or so years ago food was all cheap then something went wrong. Another problem is we have a Government Department ACCC Australian Competition and Consumer Commission who are basically a group of toothless tigers, food is of less quality and gets smaller almost yearly. PS Cronulla is not a cheap place as far as Sydney goes.
That socialism we're 4th highest tax country
You need to enjoy the good part of living in Australia more! it will help you appreciate it more and you will forget about focusing on small issues :)

Once a house becomes 100 years old in Australia it gets heritage listed which means you need to maintain the outer facade in the original style which costs a lot of money, so a lot of people knock down and rebuild before then.

You only see places if you travel. Take the road coaches. Hire a car. Drive to Perth. It would only take you 6 or 7 days. On the speed limit. Traveling in daylight. You could do It in 3. If you travel at night as well, just sleep a few hours, and speed.
I was speaking a coupe doing two up truck driving and they said their fastest Perth to Sydney trip was about 48 hours only stopping for fuel. So it's possible to do it in two days if it's driving night and day and only stopping for fuel. But it's not recommended
You're in " Nulla". Not so many nasty spiders there, just Trapdoors and Wolf spiders. The nasty ones ( Funnel Webs) are in the Northern suburbs.

I just got a working holiday visa and you can stay out there for a year but can only work for the same employer for up to 6 months, if you do farm work for around 3 months I think it is (look into it because I'm not 100% sure of the duration) you can stay out there for another year. Will be well worth it, you'll love it!
You should move to Qld. I've lived in the Caribbean but Sunshine Coast is better. I am originally from Manchester and love Australia. I have lived all over the world and embracing new places is the key to enjoyment of life

Snakes and spiders - please still be careful. Even in the city you can get some dangerous critters. Red-back spiders, for example, are common in urban Sydney. Don't leave your shoes outside overnight.

It's a very Australian attitude. If you're living in a bin a lot of aussies will be like well you don't have it as bad as this other person. I've lived in Scandinavia (my grandparents are Norwagian) and I found people there much more friendly.

Our pays are higher so everything else will be higher but remember to look at the conversion rates when comparing. Queensland is so much cheaper and nicer. I like your lists so much better then a lot of others. Glad you did a bit of research before you came.

Food is actually cheaper here in Australia compared to UK. You are just in the most expensive part of the country. My daughter lived in London for two years and rent there was way more than what you pay here, in most of the country, Sydney being the exception which has always been over priced.

Lycanthrope Black no she wasn’t. Rent is just more expensive which is just a fact so is a cup of coffee, another fact. She loves the UK and hopes to move over there with her work. My grandparents were English.
The reason the chocolate tastes 'odd' to you is a couple of reasons. British chocolate has a higher coco content than Australia, but more importantly we dont churn the chocolate as long as you do in Europe because of the small market in Australia.
