@@mmirekelite56 That's fine, I'm a patient of Dr. Toboggan.
They should have made Audrey the main character. She's the one interested in trees, she's the one who has a reason to venture outside the town and search for answers
+darkninjafirefox Oh my god, yes. They did her dirty by reducing her to a love interest with barely any meaningful screentime.
No because we all know wamen can't do anything and the only reason men ever do something is to bang them
Seriously, she was directly suppressed by O’hare censoring her art by defiling it and as an artistic environmental protestor voiced by Taylor Swift of all people?? Not only would you get better musical numbers from her, she’d also be a great modern female protagonist considering we’re living through the changes of climate change. The potential for a great cultural landmark film was there, they just went the lazy route. Let’s hope the Mario movie is better than this ☠️
That would have meant making Taylor swift record more lines and that would have gotten expensive
@@itspice8737 That's a good point.. Illumination was kind of a baby studio back then. But look at them now! I bet if the movie was made today, they could've wrangled Swift in for a couple of songs. It would've been amazing.
My favorite part of this movie was they did a car commercial saying it was “Lorax approved”
A movie about saving the environment promoted cars
Used the same tactics that the movie demonized
I remember that and it was what they said in the movie was bad. So definitely weirded me out.
To be fair, the marketing team and the filmmakers are different groups of people, it’s unlikely the writers/directors had a say in what the marketing team did.

The Lorax didn’t even get a song. Or a PART in a song. The representation of nature itself was more comedic relief than an actual main character.
He would’ve if they left in the song “Biggering”!
gotta love how the movie is named after him but he doesn’t even get a part in any song
@@WafflesssFalling when did they take it out? How do i remember it?
I will forever be upset that we didn't get "Biggering" in the final cut. It would have made the story so much better and would have had some of the actual moral of the story in it.
I'm almost positive the company didn't choose that song because it was a basically calling out all companies, including their own
@@juicybuttercup5393 that or they thought the song would be too heavy for kids
I think they just wanted the catchiest song
The song wasn’t for kids. It’s slower, and not catchy. How bad can I be still plays in my head, it was fun. Biggering doesn’t fit this goofy movie.
@@glizzygladiator8055 ok and? One serious song wouldn’t have stopped this shitty movie from getting money.
It would have been so much more endearing and thematic if Audrey was the one who ventured out to see the oncler, she's literally the ONLY person who cared a whole awful lot
True
Or even make Ted have a genuine reason to go out and venture other than 'Girl like trees, me go find trees' 😂
Not how the book was, at least they tried to stay a little true to the original
@@fsheee3458 they literally didn't stay true to the book in almost any other aspect, they changed everything else but not the protagonist? They could make the girl the protagonist but stay closer to the original than.. what we got
What would have also been neat is if Ted, you know , genuinely cared about trees and liked them as much as she did. And instead if being romantically interested in her at first, he bonds with her through their mutual love of them, and they wind up going to the Onceler together.
His whole ' I'm just doing this to get the cute girl's attention' thing was just not it.
Illumination literally partnered with a car company to make an ad with the lorax in it. That sums up the quality of this movie.
RIP Biggering. You will be best villain song in any animated movie. Imo, Danny DeVito as The Lorax is perfect casting. Don't forget the Onceler simps, and Pamtri doing a better version of The Lorax 2012, cuz the Lorfax speaks for the tres.
It's insane how good Biggering is. Honestly one of the best villain songs of like. all time. I really want to see a darker more real version of the lorax one day, using that song,

Truth be told, I've always hated what they ended up doing with the Once-Ler, they took one of Dr. Seuss' most compelling and nuanced villains of all time and basically made it to where it was his family were the ones that forced him to overharvest the Truffula trees and practically absolved him of blame, Whereas in the original story and animated special made in the 70's, The Once-ler constantly questions if at any point he should stop and argues with himself but he always makes excuses for why he should press on with his production of Thneeds and its only then when the last of the trees fall that he realizes that he's made a terrible mistake which is why when the film gets to that point, it feels hollow and unearned.
completely agree. the Once-ler’s face was intentionally never shown in both the book and animated special. his character was specifically created to represent big business and industrialists rather than one individual, which is literally the whole message of the story. it’s not one person who’s causing all this destruction, it’s all of us. he’s everybody and nobody at the same time. putting a face to his name undermines the entire message by saying “yep, just a few bad eggs are responsible for the earth’s deterioration so blame them” instead of focusing on industrialism and corporate greed as a whole. when i was reading a thread on this topic i saw a bunch of people talking about how the Once-ler terrified them as children and left them with an eerie feeling. that’s the whole point. it’s a shame because you’d never leave with that same feeling after this movie. i honestly think an animated film about the Lorax should’ve been made by independent filmmakers instead of a company like Illumination. they were never going to do the book justice considering they profit off of the very thing it’s message speaks against.
I kinda disagree. I think it’s interesting to show that you don’t have to be an evil person to make selfish decisions that affects everyone. His family was a bad influence, but they didn’t force him to cut the tree down and start selling the thneeds. By the time his family actually shows up, they’re just pushing a snowball that’s already rolling down the hill. Isn’t it just like a billionaire to be likable and charismatic while they destroy whatever and whoever gets in their way? They’re only sorry when they have to pay for it.
There’s a deleted song in the Lorax called “Biggering” it’s about the Oncler’s pride, how he doesn’t care about the forest and that he wants more things.
Honestly a really good song 😭

Fun fact: instead of “How Bad Could I Possibly Be?” The movie was originally going to have a song called biggering. The song was actually really good and interesting and told a better story than the other song. Unfortunately the producers thought that biggering was too scary for kids so they didn’t use it
Bruh, the movie scared me ether
There is an alternate universe out there somewhere, where this exists.
I bet this universe is a lot better and Tumblr died probably like 7 years ago.
a song about corporate greed getting cut because of corporate greed lmao the irony is ✨✨✨
Wrong, they thought it was too relvent and painted the onceler in too bad of a light, it gets rid of any plausible deniability.
Nah, it was too scary for THEM
This movie was a huge part of my childhood. Specifically when I was around 6, I was in hospital and my dad bought this movie on dvd and put it on for me on my Monster High dvd player. A very good memory in my life
"Monster High DVD player." Take me back.
This is a very unique memory yet I feel this
damn
i never knew monster high dvd players existed... i have to buy one now
I thought this was gonna be a "it saved me from my coma because I stood up to turn it off" type of joke 🤣
What I never understood was why he didn’t re-plant the trees in the first place. Like he did not have a good business plan 😂
Edit: lmao why has the Lorax given me the most comment likes I’ve ever had lmao 🤦♂️
Seriously. Like, even if we accept the idea that harvesting the material was too costly without just cutting the whole tree down, this MF had to be drowning in seeds. Anyone with any damn sense is gonna be planting as you go. Hell, it would've kept the lorax off his ass, utilized more of the tree that was otherwise getting wasted, and guaranteed his long term viability as a company. This has always bugged the hell out of me
I wonder why the trees havent regrown at least a little, because the trees arent dead if you're leaving the stumps in the ground
Yeah even the tree stump in my backyard has a tall branch growing out of it.
tbf they do that irl. like the logging in the amazon rainforest, and most forests in the world
I don't remember if it was in the book, but the original animated version of the Lorax said how long it takes to grow one truffula trees.
The deleted song "Biggering" is not only a banger but an amazing villain song and the TRUE message of The Lorax, with greed successfully transforming The Onceler. This could have been a great movie that was faithful to the source, but Illumination neutered it to "play it safe."

Yeah it’s such a dumb decision, since Biggering portrays what “how bad can i be” was trying to convey sooo much better as well as being an actual good song on top of that
I have it in spotify
I find the song out by watching a another TH-cam channel years ago
@@Fluorite-Fox everyone agrees that it’s better (unless they have an ironic love for “How Bad can I be”)
The marshmallow scene was to explain why the animals of nature allowed him to hang around instead of following through with chasing him off... so it has a purpose
I mean it's either marshmallows or he goes the realistic route and starts killing them until they let him take "some" trees because even kids know that the animals of nature are not harmless defenseless angels
I think the point is just that he’s investing in them as a community. He also makes them pancakes and treats them like his friends. And that’s a community he later betrays… so it makes the climate change message more personable
I always thought the cartoons from the 60s did Seuss stories right. It's just an animated retelling of the book. The Butter Battle is a personal fav
I know, I thought I was alone 😂
I absolutely loved that one. Both gave me nightmares, especially the butter battle because of how bleak the end was. Imagine turning that into a 3d animated kids movie lmao
They did so much better 😂
The concept is even more absurd if you think of the whole timeline of this movie, the trees were around when the onceler was in 20s or so, he then cut down all of the trees and EVERYONE forgot about trees when the onceler is older, presumably in his 60s-70s. So that means this whole story happens in about a 50 year span, which is ridiculous
You mention the irony of a company like Illumination making this movie, and I feel like some of the production adds another layer to that. “Biggering”, the song proposed for this movie before being remade into “How Bad Can I Be”, is genuinely one of the best songs I’ve ever heard written for a kids’ movie. There was definitely some sort of passion somewhere at some point when making this movie, but Illumination rejected the song and and sanitized other aspects of the movie to make it more marketable. They actively tore down something great for something that would make them more money. The very existence of this movie is a contradiction to everything it’s supposed to stand for.
In the cartoon short made based on the story, there were many moments where the Onceler grappled with himself about the choices he was making, and he discussed these things with the Lorax. He convinced himself that certain things had to be certain ways because that’s how the solution has always been found in the past, and brought up legitimate concerns such as the lives of his employees, things that business owners who do actually care have to consider. Everything happened gradually, not just in a single music number. This movie throws out all of the nuance, the message of trying to find better ways that benefit people and the planet, for… just bad.
"Stop it...."
"Those trees over there?"
" *Stop it* "
Honestly surprised you didnt mention the whole Tumblr Fiasco with this movie lol
Always loved the ending quote of the movie. "Unless someone like you cares an whole awful lot, nothing is going to change, its not."
My mom has never finished this movie. She falls asleep and wakes up at the exact same parts every time it's on. It's also the most popular senior quote my high school had when this movie came out. Anyways, great video and Aloha from Hawaii!
I was a huge Dr. Seuss fan as a kid. I used to read as many of those books as possible, and The Lorax was one of my favorites (also Butter Battle and Yertle The Turtle).
I like the Lorax as a character in the movie, Danny Devito is awesome casting, but that's it... I really disliked how they bloated such a simple effective story. All you need is in the book, so why not just make an animated short film highlighting the visuals and sounds - which Seuss was good at, dude loved onomatopoeias
I love the Butter Battle. The cartoon from the 60s is my fav PAT PAT SMEAR SMEAR
Random but the only reason I know the word onomatopoeia is because of the Hey Arnold spelling bee episode. Never in my life have I heard anyone use it 😆
In defence, ted starts off, wanting to get with Taylor swift but then realises that he should just do this act just for that

There was a song that was good from this film, but it wasn't in the film itself. It's called "Biggering" and it was SO much better than "How badadadad can I be?".
I‘m honest, I didn’t had a single memory about this movie but I still love how you just talk about feelings you have while watching it, and then my memory of it was suddenly completely there, keep up with your content here
The movie WALL-E handles the topic of pollution and climate change so much better than The Lorax in my opinion
yeah I guess a gripe I have about the story is that the onceler had all the money to make machines to chop trees, yet he didn't think of making machines to harvest the tufts faster
Not matter what people say about this movie, it will always be very special to me. The Lorax was the last movie that my Great Grandmother and I saw together in theaters. Her and I would always go and see movies together, it was our thing. We would laugh together and just enjoy being with each other. I never knew that when I was younger while she was laughing with me, she was fighting cancer. I remember driving to 7-11 in her little red car and getting snacks before we went to the movies together and saw this movie. It was normal to me then, but it’s special to me now because she’s gone. That was the last time we got to go to the movies together and I will cherish that memory forever. I love you Nana💕
i’m literally crying 💔
Nah cause am I weird for actually loving the movie
couple of things: 1. i always thought the bottled air thing was in reference to how people originally reacted to the concept of bottled water, which seemed wild and unnecessary a few decades ago. and 2. i like the interpretation of the book that “unless someone like you…” the “you” referred to the onceler. the idea that unless someone in charge of these big companies decides to actually give a shit, nothings going to get better. it def makes more sense than telling an individual child with no real power to have to clean up a mess they didn’t make and have no ability to stop.
can the individual child grow up and become a environmentalist?
@@kafukwamekemehconservationists do great work but average people, especially children, should not be told that the weight of the issue is on their shoulders. Of course we should pick up trash off the ground and ride bikes more often but that’s a drop in the ocean compared to what mega corporations are doing to change the environment
Every time I watched this as a kid I was always confused why they didn't just cut some tufts from each tree instead of cutting all the trees down... I now realize that movie needs to movie so that's actually not possible.
Because that's the point. Greed means you take EVERYTHING and not just what you need. And "greed is bad because it hurts others/the environment" is literally the whole message of the book and the movie. Think about how in real life corporations don't just do what's necessary - they go the easy/fast route, which means lots of waste. But waste is cheap. Time is not.
The opening song scene of this movie was an assault on my senses.
Biggering will forever be the best song that came from this movie even if it wasn’t in the final project. I accept no other answer.
What I never understood was why he didn’t re-plant the trees in the first place. Like he did not have a good business plan 😂
I quote "let it die, let it die, let it shrivel up and die" daily.
Dr Seuss: Lorax is not a powerful force of nature, he's just a being that wants to stop humanity and their selfishness, and once-ler can be anyone, not a guy, just anyone anywhere.
Illumination: "👩🦰👈👨🦰That's a woman??"
This movie robbed us of what could have been one of the greatest villain songs of all time, by replacing "Biggering" with "How Bad Can I Be?". A power metal banger about how money and power can twist a person into destroying all around them. Most people have probably heard it by now, but check it out if you haven't. They fully recorded it and released it on the official soundtrack (thankfully).
I'm glad once the Onceler simping died down, everyone started realizing how bad the film actually was, and I think Biggering helped
No no, it’s actually been coming back, biggering just made us more excited for him
The only thing we like about the movie is the Onceler since we already knew the film was ‘meh’
I will never forget seeing a car ad for this movie. The most brain dead advertisement you could possibly choose
Biggering is on my phone and played regularly.
I haven't watched the film since it was released.
I had it on DVD and I gave it to a neighbor child when I moved to lighten my load
There’s a lot wrong with this film. Most of it rooted in the hypocrisy of the studio itself endorsing many environmentally damaging products in an act of irony so thick you could bludgeon the onceler to death with it.
However personally I feel the greatest tragedy of this film was the removal of the song “biggering”.
I mean that’s a bop. Why would you remove it?
It’s cause of the hypocrisy isn’t it?
Lmfao the damn car commercials
You do know the movie and the endorsements are two completely different things that shouldn’t affect the quality of the film?
You know that right?
@@lukeskywalker9507I think we both know the answer for that in regards to a certain franchise
Who else wishes we got the original concept for the Onceler's song called Biggering?
there's an unused demo song for the onceler called biggering. the fact they didn't use it makes sense because it directly calls out everything wrong with corporations and greed
This movie should’ve followed the Onceler as an ambitious and cunning youth turned into a businessman and shown him as he destroyed the environment for glory and greed. Only to discover that his joy and glory was temporary as people moved on, leaving the environment destroyed and himself washed-up. Dead animals and plants, gray sky, bad air and water, etc.
And then have Audrey show up in his darkest hour and want to learn about trees in Thneedville, now cornered by O’Hare’s products and consumerism. And he entrusts the last seed to her.
There is only room for one musical about plants with a main character trying to get a girl named Audrey, and it’s definitely not The Lorax.
He looks like he hasn’t slept in four days because of this movie
That’s just how eyes look
You should really listen to the cancelled music for this movie. Biggering is a great villain song, and the soundtrack is just great.
The fact that O’hare was selling air is a reference to how we pay for water and if we would just clean the pollution we shouldn’t have to pay for something we need to live
I love the little fascist O'Hare. The song he sings in the sqaure at the end cracks me up every time.

Honestly, "The Lorax" (mostly the book) sometimes reminds me of "FernGully: The Last Rainforest". Though I wouldn't say it delivers a better story than "The Lorax" but still it's just as enjoyable and it has a way more ig diverse set of characters/cast. I loved "FernGully" as a kid and I just recently found it today and rewatched it. Nostalgia hit me like a wave.
Guys, I don’t think he likes the lorax.
I remember crushing on onceler hard when I was young. I didn't know about all the multiverse shipping on tumblr until I recently butI would have loved it. That was the only thing I liked about the movie.
I was expecting him to bring up the song that was originally going to be played instead of "How Bad Can I Be"
Sucks that they had some cool ideas but were forced to change it. Also thought O Hara coulda just been trying to save what’s left of everything. Hell, point out plants are living beings and cannot live without us the same way we can’t without them. How do they even have any recourses?
Would love to see a further exploration (correlation?) of animated movies overhyped to success fueled by peak 2010's Tumblr with shipping simp armies.
I remember wars fought over "The Big Four" (i.e. Rise of the Guardians, Rapunzel, How to Train Your Dragon, and Frozen) pairings. (And speaking of ships, gotta say Onceler shipped with himself was one of the strangest things I saw had a massive following.)

If you want a much more focused, emotional, and touching retelling of the Lorax story, look up the cut Lorax song from the musical Seussical. So many great retellings of Seuss stories in wonderful songs in a touching story.
Its ironic we didn't get Biggering in the final movie, it goes so much harder than what we got
I love that this movie expects you to be sad that the outside world is absolutely ruined when the wall gets destroyed... as if they weren't singing about how happy they are that their town is made of plastic in the beginning of the movie

Heyo BionicPIG - I would love to see your opinion on the deleted song "Biggering."
Cause honestly, in a parallel universe where this song existed in the film instead of "How Bad Can I Be?," the film may have actually been watchable.
You know I think instead of using “how bad can I be” they should’ve use the other song called “biggering” it had more to it and I think if that song was in there I would’ve returned to watch the movie. They didn’t add it due to the fact that yk their also a evil company and it sounds like illumination is talking about themself I believe

Honestly, I think it goes deeper in the fact that so many companies have convinced us that we need to buy food. Not make our own. And drink their water. Not find our own.
And all sorts of other things like that. It makes a lot of sense. Very very ironic
Well water is not as easy to come by
Especially deep in cities

Here in Sept 2024, and still no sequel. Let’s call that a win.
I saw it in theaters, but not by choice. Our school took us to go see it when it came out because it was this big thing with schools. Since it was about environmentalism and caring about the earth, it was pushed on my school like those "Got Milk" posters. I am curious how many other schools did that when it came out. I wander what amount of the $349 million came from schools and children care programs taking kids to this
My guilty pleasure is listening to ‘How bad can I be?’
Despite the issues with this movie that I have noticed over the years and what other people have noticed, I still absolutely love this movie. I have a lot of nostalgia for this movie since I was 9 when it was released and I appreciate the message that it has. Plus 'How Bad Can I Be' is the best song in the movie and still freaking slaps, I don't even care what y'all say lol. I do however wish that they did put the song 'Biggering' in there instead, that's even better.
This movie does remind me when at my old elementary school, they'd sit us all in the gym/auditorium on earthday to watch Danny Devito tell us we shouldn't cut down trees for scarves and I didn't care as long as I didn't have to go back to class lol. This movie isn't going to end up on my movie night list or anything like that, but it's something I'd put on for my nephew and watch with him and not want to off myself before it ends lol
the reason he mourns the first tree is because the rocks he placed down formed the 'unless' stone circle shown at the end.. which I always thought was kind of cool. but now that you point it out it is odd looking he didn't mourn the rest lol

Look, I get that doing the hidden face thing Suess was going for would have been immensely tricky for a 2 hour movie. But why couldn't we have kept the Onceler as the villain of the picture like he was supposed to be? Show him growing up poor, setting out to make his fortune, and once he tastes success, he can't let it go even as the trees have trouble regrowing. Have him be scared of becoming poor again, since he lived hand to mouth. Have the family be there as a representation of his past simple life and how he's slipping away from it, and then introduce the Lorax towards the end to call him out on his behaviour, but by the time he listens, the trees and his business are gone, and his family don't want to talk to him because he acted like a jerk when he was successful. End with him giving the boy the last seed.
Bada-bing, bada boom, now Dr. Suess won't be rolling in his grave anymore!
