Back in the late 60's, early 70's Valley Trail Riders put on a Mother's day enduro every year. It was 75 plus miles of pure springtime MUD! Oh what fun!!!
Got back into riding this year after 10 year hiatus... 1st ride back was a dual sport (Bob Reese Memorial in IL).. 2 miles in i thought i was done for, hands were numb.. pushed through and finished the 36 mile loop....looked a lot like this....good riding, thanks for posting...
That first log that everyone was hung up, they cut out for the second lap. I loved the course. The tighter the better. I did 5 laps in 3:52min. I was exhausted.
Mad respects, job well done! I'm 52 now, been riding MX my whole life, raced in my teen-age yrs & rode most my adult life with about 15yr break until last yr. I'm slowly getting back into it, I bought a 22 Suzuki RM-Z450 (my 1st Suzuki & 4 stroke, always rode YZ's & 1 CR250) which I love, it has all the power I'd ever need, it handles the trails like a gem, turns on a dime, getting the suspension correct is the toughest part. The kick start thing isn't an issue for me as I haven't been spoiled with electric start, so I don't know what I'm missing lol. They kick easy & start on 1 kick warm. Anyway, my reason for giving all that info is, do you think I could ride that bike on these scrambles?
This race was the tightest race of the season and would have been a nightmare on a 450. There are a few guys racing 450’s. Most of what I see are 250, 350, and 300 two strokes.
That was one brutal race. I started racing harescrambles this year. So far this is the toughest one. I see I finished my 3rd lap 2min and 30sec behind you, and I was so happy I don't need to do another lap. My time was 3:00:24 😅 I am impressed how you recovered after the rut, and still able to make a 4th lap.
Thanks man! Sheer determination got me through, that 4th lap I was cramping so bad I still don’t know how I managed to finish. This is only my second year racing and it was definitely the hardest race of them ALL!
The course looks pretty brutal but fun! I live in michigan and just bought a 2008 ktm 300xc as my first bike as an adult to start racing enduros with my cousins! I am planning on going to Jack Pine in august to do Pine Cone as my first race!
You're right, its hard to put into words... I fell like brutal is an understatement. I still had a manual clutch on my bike and even almost 2 weeks later I still have some numbness in my left hand.
I raced there, I actually seen you as well !! I’ve been to everyone of them this year and this one was the worst, as in most physically draining. I only made it a lap and a half and my shifter broke off, luckily I was still by the parking lot because I wouldn’t of had the energy to get it out of the woods myself😂
@@Captain250FX Me, my father and cousin did a hare scramble at fox valley for fathers day and i finished the race in 1 hr 45 mins and was exhausted, cant imagine racing for over 4 hrs, that's insane.
@@Captain250FX Yes correct Illinois, It was my first time ever doing a hare scramble. But I love Michigan trails, the ones I usually ride when I get the chance are Evarts and Long lake. Michigan trails are a blast as they are usually very technical with many hill climbs filled with roots and rocks.
I've never ridden their hare scrambles but I have ridden their enduros. They basically set up the course the same way they would an enduro, which I don't agree with. I guess my mentality is that hare scrambles should allow more active passing, so it should be wider in a lot of areas and not as long. Enduros should be mostly single track with some opens.
I've been day dreaming for years now. My goal is to get a bike start practicing and do a race for my 40th birthday. I just can't pull the trigger. Keeping my young kids on dirt bikes before I buy myself one.
There is always a way! I didn’t start riding till I was 38 and started racing at 45. This is my second year racing and I’m turning 46 in a month. You could always look for a good used one and ride with your kids!
Same thing here - I am 48 now, got on a motorcycle for the first time at 40, started racing at 46. This is my first year racing hare scrambles. All I can say is, I wish I've started earlier - I can't get enough of it. I have been riding every weekend since trails cleared the snow enough :-) My kids are teenagers now, but both ride. My advice- don't wait. Tomorrow is not guaranteed. Get that bike you are dreaming for, and get riding. There is nothing better than a day of riding with your kids.
It was even tighter than it looks. It was brutal for sure, hardest race I’ve ever done. Now that it’s behind me I think it will make everything else a little easier.
@@Captain250FX I lost count how many trees were bar bangers.... shouldn't be that many in a harescramble race.... need places to pass.... otherwise the whole race bogs down behind slower riders.... and you end up running a 4 hr race!!!
One tuff race, what a memory! Leave a comment below if you were there and raced, how’d you do and how did you like the setup.
That course looked awesome!! Good for not stopping.
✌️

That was a tough first lap for you. Glad you hung in there and tuffed it out. You got grit man. Thanks for the vids.
Thanks! 🙏
Great Footage, Captain! I managed to get out front, so it didn't experience that level of carnage...
Nice!
4 hours, wow! Way to hang in there. Tough race.
It was brutal. 4:14 minutes to be exact. This was tighter and harder than it looked, it took some souls for sure. A bunch of people quit.

Thank you!
Great video. I was helping with this race. Becker makes a killer track.
Thanks for your hard work! Very tough course, I’m sure everything else will be easy after this race?!
That is nuts that track is so tight
Sure is, always the tightest race of the year.
Valley is usually pretty tight, but this last race was by far the tightest yet. Had fun, but wish there would've been more flow to the trail.
I agree!
Crazy how fast those seat high ruts sneak up on you! I had a similar problem at polkadots last year
Yes they do
That was brutal. I really wanted to quit when I got the white flag, but decided to tough it out. Congrats on finishing!
Thank you, congrats to you as well! That was a massive CHARACTER BUILDING RACE! 💪🏼👊🏽

Nice race captain. I don't know how you did it. 👍
Me either? 😂
Great video, was just wondering what mount do you use to mount your GoPro around the chin.
Dango Designs Chin Mount, get them on Amazon or RMATV for $50

Well done sir!
Thanks Mark! I almost threw in the towel. 😂
VALLEY riders ask if we would open up are land for the riders can jump off brown road and hit are land to turn around to head back to VALLEY.
Is the the same trail riders group from the 70s. Saginaw Valley Trail Rider's???
I wasn't born until the 70’s so I don't know? 😁
Do a review on 250fx
I’m about to next week, just hit 100 hrs. Thanks for watching and great idea.
What mode are you running
Usually in the Keefer Free Feeling map if that’s what your asking. If I’m riding a faster trail I use the MX MAP
Wow u was really stuck that's crazy deep rut
That sucked bad. Luckily a guy stopped to help. We had to lift the bike out of the rut, pegs were stuck it was bad lol.
I can only imagine what the Bark Buster Enduro will be like
Let me know how it is if you’re going, I’m good with that place for a minute. 😂

Looks like a Louisiana mud bog
