I recall seeing Taylor Grant on at least one ad circa 1963-64, and for some time I thought it was longtime reviewer Cleveland Amory pitching the magazine.
The first ad (which looks like it could be early 1962) features the famous Mr. "TV Gahhhhd" (albeit sounding almost like he had a slight cold here), so we can see as well as hear him. I've been apprised that the longtime announcer (through 1981) was the late Philadelphia TV and radio broadcasting legend (and member of the Broadcast Pioneers of Philadelphia) Taylor Grant.
@tapthatt2012 - In his early years as TVG announcer, yes, he did appear on camera. (On another website is another ad he did on-camera for the 1962 Fall Preview issue.) It wasn't until about the mid-'60's that his duties moved strictly off-camera.
Today's TV GUIDE is an ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY "wannabe" (especially with several of their former writers and editors now working for TV GUIDE- complete with their cynicism and "hipness" intact). They stopped publishing local listings years ago; what's currenly printed are national cable/network "grids" with very little information. It's just not the same anymore...
CHEERS: To Tapthatt2012 salute to television's memorable history The Fall Preview was a big deal back then - i still have a few including the Simpsons, Married w/ Children on the cover. Remember the infamous Oprah Winfrey cover
It's Mr TV Gaaahd himself, Taylor Grant ,in a rare on camera appearance from 1962. He was the voice of TV Guide Magazine
from 1962-81.

@danawadd - The Canadian TV Guide stopped publishing a magazine version a few years ago - it exists only as a website now (tvguide.ca)

@danawadd it's still published, but in a regular magazine format. i stopped buying after a few issues.
@mctishee THE ONLY GUY SMILING WAS JACK WEBB.
My dad wouldn't let me buy it at the supermarket checkout,,he said the TV listings were in the newspaper free...always irked me.
