Awesome fix! I've flip flopped on how I want to camp/RV/boat while keep my truck usable. The sucky thing about new trucks is that they no longer have stake pockets. The way you show this fix is a brilliant way to resolve this issue. I love how easily it is to install & take apart. And besides, it's a pickup truck, not a car. It's meant to be beat up a bit and haul things. Now I'm mad at you. You've added yet ANOTHER thing for me to figure out on what to do! Ha ha ha! Great design plans and build!
Thanks! I still love and use the rack. I'll be using it next week for labor day. Taking my Canoe down the river. I don't even take the sides apart now. Just slide them in and connect the cross bars. Cheers!
I have been looking for a way to build a sturdy inexpensive wood boat rack for my truck that allows me to load my quad as well. This is the best and strongest set up I have seen. Thanks so much.

On my old truck that I sold, I used the stake pockets on the truck and shaped the 2x4 so it fit into the pocket. My new truck I needed to use the cover when my rack was off so I needed to mount the rack on the inside of the truck. I also needed to be able to fit my ATV inside the rack. There are a few videos out there where guys have made racks out of 2x4s on the inside of the truck bed.

I like this good job and simple, What do you use for bolts or lag screws to hold the brackets to side of the bed,
I used a 13" Nut/Thread Setting Hand Riveter. A friend told me about this tool and it worked great.

Can you close the tailgate with the quad in?
Adrian Sienko my Polaris 400 yes. My 500 no, but with a tire down strap to the tailgate cable yes. The tailgate is open about 4".
