Little owls often found in squirrel drays, why dray poles should be used rather than just blasting them , the keeper should have known that !

Got to be a bit careful as Tawny Owls will nest on top of old dreys - shot a few accidentally 😬
    drey poking poles are preferable.

I love the idea that deer populations have bloomed in the last 50 years because there are no apex predators as they were eradicated 450 years ago.
Nothing to do with different cropping or rotations or anything like that. Oh no, it was hunters 450 years ago that caused the "problem" today.
May be a tag system for England would help? Ditto in Scotland.
Phil Spencer is a top guy and doesn't shy away from his love and understanding of our sports.
Interesting to see the names taking part in the shoot in Germany. Names including Jeremy Clarkson, Sir Lewis Hamilton, David Beckham and a load of others. Sometimes it would be nice if our shooting celebs would say they shoot. Even if it is only plates (Lewis Hamilton is a vegan, I believe).

@Petrov Zinkweed yes and that's why I stated he was vegan. Reading is tricky.
      LOL as you might say.

Great video, here in northern California, grey squirrels eat the bark around the tops of redwood trees.the tree then dies from the top down, these trees are then, not good for lumber.squirrels are a big problem for timber.they taste great, and are fun challenge to hunt.

You can thank Lockstin for telling us that the UK has a Gray squirrel issue where it is turned into a national conservation effort to save their Red Squirrels.
Man, Game freak did their nutty homework with Skwovet and Greedent design and inspiration to make me see this channel just now.

No wonder why the countryside is under so good managment with good fellows like this around.

And this time of year how many Tawny Owls did they kill on the nest. I have seen Tawny chicks in a drey mid January. And the ignorance of the general licence is astounding, try to pick it out what was said. It amuses me some of the ignorance spoken on this channel & its no wonder dick heads like Packham has the last laugh. With clowns like this about Packham & the like will be raking it, well done.

Great show again guys.It would be good to see the conservation efforts done by the hunting community instead of the negative press the wider public are shown.I am still surprised by what is going on with the police and the licensing problem/debacle.Hopefully it will get sorted out but it might need some political influence to highlight the problem. All the best ,carry on with the good work from Australia.

IMO Grey Squirrel is one of the finest game/pest meats you can eat.
Slow-cooked Grey Squirrel and Chorizo Stew
    Preparation
    • Prep Time: 5 minutes
    • Cook time: 5 hours
    • Serves: 2 people
    Ingredients
    • 2 whole squirrels
    • vegetable oil
    • 200g chorizo
    • 2 cloves of garlic
    • 250g butter beans
    • 250g chopped tomatoes
    • ½ red onion
    • 100ml water
    • 2 tbsp crushed chilli seeds
    • 1 tsp of smoked paprika
    • Salt and pepper to season

    Instructions
    1. Preheat the oven to 100ºC
    2. Cut up the squirrel into five pieces. Heat plenty of vegetable oil in a frying pan and add the squirrel to brown off for no more than 1 minute
    3. Remove from the pan and allow to rest.
    4. Roughly chop the onion and slice the chorizo in to small pieces and add to the frying pan and saute for 5 minutes.
    5. Transfer the squirrel, onion and chorizo into a suitable oven proof dish, and add the chopped tomatoes, water, smoked paprika and garlic, and put into the oven.
    6. Cook for four hours, remove from the oven and add the butter beans and chilli. Return to the oven for another hour.
    7. Serve with some crispy warm bread and butter.

It's a real shame the attitude toward eating squirrels, they really are as great to eat as they are fun to hunt.
One day it'll be trendy to eat greys in Eng/Wales mark my words

Re the squirrel article it's a little sensationalist and blinkered IMO.
Just admit you want a bit of fun and to save some grain and shoot them.
But in a mature woodland squirrels don't do anything significant to the trees, with no red squirrels being introduced in that woodland there's no benefit to eliminating them under the pretence of helping the reds, and whilst they do take v v few songbirds and eggs- there are much easier sources of food and it's v rare.

Wouldn’t want any of these guys anywhere near my shoot. Shooting into dreys without poking them first. You can’t tell the shape using only a thermal. Lots of birds take over old dreys. This is the worst advert for field sports I’ve ever seen.

A little bit over kill for squirrels with shot guns. Tree will also suffer from shot. Why not air guns single shot single squirrel

    Hi Guys,
Cos i cannot find and email address i thought i would try here:
Do you know about a fund raiser for the Gamekeepers Welfare Trust called "A walk with Shaun" being carried out by a Scottish Deer Manager.
Any chance you promote it on the next episode....Please
