GROM Audio VLine VL2 Install 2018 Acura RLX

- This one I've been waiting for! Here's a DIY for installing the GROM audio VLine VL2 unit on the Acura RLX. Most of the DIY's I found are on MDX's and reference the RLX is the same. While similar it's not the same for removing interior panels etc. This will give the car CarPlay (finally!) and wireless at that. It has a ton of extra features that I won't be using; including stand alone google maps (or other navigation apps, Waze etc) It will also allow you to mirror your phone to the screen. Super handy for videos on road trips.
In order to connect your iPhone wirelessly the unit uses wifi. When connected to wifi, your data does not work, hence no music, iMessage etc. Seems a bit counter productive. When connected to the unit via wifi; go into the settings with the little (i) symbol, select conjure IP and change it from automatic to manual. For the IP address enter 192.168.43.66, for the subnet mask enter 255.255.255.0 and for the router enter 192.168.43.1. Hit save and welcome to Wireless CarPlay with cellular data!

This is the dual USB cords, I did 6 ft because I thought about running them to the center console.

I have a similar setup from Bimmer-Tech in another car that keeps the OEM mic functionality.
Hoping this will work with a newer MDX with 360° camera.
Unfortunately no go with the OEM mic. With the wiring harness integration I wasn’t able to figure out which wire I would have needed to tap. The mic provided with the grom is close to useless unless it’s directly in front of your face. I’ve pondered upgrading the mic but when I get a call I just put the phone on speaker. Also it allows keeping it all factory should I remove the grom

Honestly just a random amazon wireless charger lol. I don't even remember the size but I searched for a small USB charging pad and it worked!
Can you do a update on the camera issue and the additional usb in the center console? Just wondering if you got those add-ones addressed. Thanks.
YES! That's the next video I was going to put up. Still waiting on updates from GROM but likely it won't make a difference; hasn't yet (teaser)

I have a 2020 RLX sports hybrid. I just installed the VLINE 2
I was wondering if you were able to get the map directions onto the windshield HUD.
Before VLINE when you use the gps for the car if a turn was coming up it would show up on the windshield HUD. Were you able to add that with the VLINE 2 when using google maps?
Additionally we’re you able to show the track name when in iPod mode using VLINE. Before it would show the track name being played on the windhsield HUD when you switch songs. But now it just says iPod grom. I was wondering if you were able to modify that.

Only the OEM navigation will show on the HUD. It always showed the track name for me so I never had the "ipod" mode for me. Perhaps a source issue with the GROM?
How you get the cables from the main unit to the glovebox? Is there a route for the cables to reach the glovebox and the GROM unit

What is your GROM Carplay's behaviour when you press music/info/nav/phone/menu/back physical button? It only opens the map when I press music button. it acts like back button upon pressing everything else. Would be nice if we can map it to open corresponding apps on each buttons.
Nice & clean install. Did the ota updates fix all the quirks in the system? (the camera issue)?
Yes and no! The last OTA plus a hard reset of the system DID fix the issues! So that was positive

Do you think its possible to swap an 2019+ mdx infotainment into the rlx and have android Auto work
I am not sure on that one. Everything is integrated into the wiring harnesses

No but I did figure out a way around it. Check out one most recent rlx vid!
I just installed mine, and it works pretty well except for 2 things.
1. My microphone has a terrible echo, is there a way to fix that or should I just buy a new microphone?
2. Is it possible to access Siri? I can’t seem to do it at all.
I am on an older firmware, I didn’t want to download a 450 MB update on my data plan
Yeah the mic sucks lol. I always just used speaker phone if you press and hold the talk button it doesn’t access Siri?
@@503pdxCars it does not, it still activates the car voice control. I haven’t updated it yet. I guess I’ll try updating and see if that does the trick

Is it possible to play music with TH-cam music app on Grom vline ?
Yes, any Apple CarPlay app will play and YT music is a CarPlay app
Did they ever provide that OTA update?
