this is why we love you eskay, so many bronze to gm videos the player just abuses their superior mechanics that isnt really replicatable so its really nice to see you kind of try and hold back to further explain what you would be doing in a high ranked lobby.

Finally, a road to gm vid that isn't an excuse to indirectly flex while not actually explaining much
"Unranked to GM (Educational)"
player spends the whole time flanking as Torb and laughing their ass off while winning every game with pure aim
You're correct. However there are two types of unranked to gm. One where they just flex and see how long it takes to get to go on a new account. And the other is where they actually help people who may be struggling and guide them through and give advice. It's called unranked to gm educational
FAQ:
1. Why and when do you swap between speed and heal?
I swap to speed when I want to move or when I need to move my team somewhere quickly, and default heal everywhere else. If you swap to speed, grab a wall and jump off, then swap back to heal, you get the extra distance from the speed boost but stay on heals. I also spam swap between them when I'm on the ground trying to dodge shots. It slightly affects how fast you're moving and can make you harder to hit, but only when you're on the ground AD strafing.
2. Where can I learn to wallride?
I have two updated wallriding guides that I will link in the description if you're interested!
3. Is DPS support playstyle actually bad?
The intro doesn't tell the full story because I didn't have time to explain everything! Yes, it is possible to have a more "dps support" playstyle in high elo, but it doesn't look ANYTHING like it does when the same high elo players are pubstomp smurfing. And yes! doing damage as support is a great way to have more impact than the other teams supports, BUT doing damage at the cost of letting your teammates die is completely throwing. It's all about when you're doing damage and how you're doing it, and I think that people who watch these DPS support guides and want to improve are being taught to go about it in the completely wrong way. As kiriko for example, keeping everyone alive and doing damage in between your heal bursts, as well as looking for plays when you KNOW nobody will die or when you HAVE to secure an elim to win a fight, thats good. But constantly flanking, ignoring your dps, and letting your other support die to deal damage is going to lose you so many games and that is EXACTLY what happens when you try to emulate that playstyle without being a smurf yourself!
I believe that the best method to improve on support and learn how to deal more damage is to default to keeping your team alive as much as you can and gradually trying to find opportunities to do the damage in between that, rather than constantly flanking/dealing damage and learning by losing constantly and frustrating the heck out of your teammates. The same concept applies to Lucio and I am hoping that this video shows that! Default to protecting your teammates and having great speed boost timing and boops and ultimate usage. Then, as you get more comfortable on the hero and with wallriding and aiming his projectiles, you'll be able to see situations where you could have done more and go for those next time. I also think it's important that everyone realizes there are people who are top 5 in the WORLD on Lucio who have a very "healbot" playstyle. Simply protecting your other support, forcing out dps cooldowns, having really good amp/speed timing, and incredible ult usage is enough to take you as far as you would ever want to go.
4. When is it best to use beat? This depends on what ultimates the other team has! Beat is really good at countering things like grav or the enemy lucios beat, but not worth saving for things like a dragon or a high noon. You should almost always use it defensively, whether its countering an ult or if your teammate is 1hp. The only time you should use it aggressively is when you know for a fact the other team has nothing to counter it with, or nothing you need to save it for. For example, if i beat and then the enemy lucio waits a couple seconds and beats, they have the advantage. Or if I beat and they run away, then genji dragonblades us.
5. What matchups/comps would you switch off lucio? If you are deadset on one tricking him, you can, but its mostly just maps or very specific team comps I would swap off of him. Circuit royal, havana, junkertown, are all very long range maps where poke heroes like bap/illari/zen/kinda mercy shine, and the lucio speed boost just isnt enough to close the gap before you die. So I wouldn't play him there. Also if my other support is playing zen/illari/mercy, then we just dont have enough healing so I'll go kiriko or ana or moira or bap, depending on map/comp we are against. ALSO, if my other support is on bap or ana and we are against dive, brig is a better pick because I can keep them alive better. On map types like control, flashpoint, and push, lucio is pretty much required.
6. When to amp up heals? It's totally fine and good to amp up heals as long as your team doesn't need your amp for a speed engage (like rushing into the other team as fast as possible) or for a speed disengage (like running away from an ult). You can pretty much just default to amp heals aside from those situations with a few exceptions I probably missed. And if a teammate will die if you don't amp, always do it regardless of whether you need it for the rush. Your team can always wait for the cooldown, its better than letting someone die.
6. ill be updating this as more people ask questions
When do you find it best to use Beat? I personally use it mostly to counter ult but I see others use it for offensive situations? Love the content and keep it up!
Yo i came to the comment section to ask smth and you already answered it here! great job eskay! love your videos!
Assuming we should be using boop as a displacement tool, generally should we be focusing on booping bigger threats away from our team, or should we be focusing on booping vulnerable enemies towards our team?
Also, against what matchups/comps should we just switch off of Lucio, if any?
Aggressive beat drop is only good when you know the other team doesn’t have any ults to answer it with. If they have a defensive ult, you should save yours for when they use theirs, then beat. Or if they have an offensive one, same thing. Better off saving it unless they have nothing
I’ll answer this one in the edit
That doomfist "Are you talking to me?" was killing me
I feel like people really undervalue just how much basic ult tracking can help. I'm not talking learning exactly how much damage/heals to build an ult, just keeping track of what ults they used and what ults they probably have. like if it's been 3 teamfights and they have not ulted, they probably have ult.
Absolutely. You can warn your teammates of things like D.Va bomb, Earthshatter, Death Blossom, Beat Drop, EMP and the like, which can save people from dying alot.
Tracking ults can keep your team mentally prepared or even prevent an ult from happening in the first place. Even small things like "Sombra has ult, spread out a bit." Help a ton
Good rule of thumb is 2 fights = 1 ult
The "damage damage damage" callout 😂
"How to actually be useful on Lucio"
*7 hours long*
that checks out
After 3500 hours on Lucio, my play style has evolved into:
Comp: Eskay
QP: Frogger trolling other strangers for the luls
Also, forgetting that I can't slide around a corner because I just finished playing Crucible before I opened OW 😬😂
Thank you for 7 hours of education Eskay. Also, please ignore the comments about your voice. I am a cis woman and I get comments like that too. I think your voice is very nice and calming. I find myself more relaxed after I listen to you.
omg i’m also a cis woman and I constantly have people making comments about my voice because it just slightly deeper than usual 😭
People moaning about her voice? I love Eskay's voice and her cute little giggles! I've commented her videos before saying she should do asmr lol
I was soo surprised that her voice got commented on though 'cause she sounds wayy more feminine than i do (cis girl)

7 hours of soothing Eskay voiceover in video format? This is proof that the gods exist
Eskay has been my favorite Lucio interpretation so far. Aggressive enough to get the job done. Been watching this girl for years.
7 hours of content I’m going to be watching all of because I’ve been stuck in bronze for MONTHS, getting nothing but 3-6% to my rank every win+uphill battle
watching videos is the worst way to go about it, i got stuck watching vids and then just started sucking at the game
@connorsutherland8011 well at bronze there is probably fundamental misunderstanding of the game that a video can probably help you realize faster than you would figure out on your own
@@connorsutherland8011If you’re watching videos attentively and applying what you learn, there’s no way in hell it’s the *worst*
Usually is caused by a UI bug. Dont skip the end of match screen so fast and you will see the proper ELO adjustment. It will like remember your previous game, win or loss, and + or - that elo from your next matches points. so it looks like you only got 3% elo, But in reality last match you lost 37% and this one you won 40% but it averaged the last game out.
This is one if the best educational unranked to gm ive seen. Love the “standard” strategy you took instead of just dominating lower ranks with mechanics.
7 hours of genuine education content from the mother god queen of the universe, eskay 😭💖
i been praying for this video 😭🙏🏻
your explanations are so good btw!! youre very good at verbalizing intuition and its very eye opening ^_^
Really like the way you explain things.
I think not every aggressive support watched a guide, some of them are just metal and learning.... The biggest thing (having tried awkwards style) is that he never explains the overwhelming well developed intuition he has about how and when to engage/ disengage. Getting into a flanky position is easy, knowing how and WHEN to get out (or even that 'getting out' is part of the plan)
Just looking for times when you're doing nothing or needlessly healing and filling those gaps should naturally develop someone into that aggressive style.
This was the most educational Lucio video I have ever seen, thank you so much Eskay!
Eskay, I have 1 question (IDK if in the 7h you'll talk about this): How did I know when I've to use speed or healing on Lúcio? In the games you're allways change the bost and I don't unsertand when I've to change to be more usefull for my team. Thanks!
NVM, in 1:54:00 you responded the question.
you're iconic for the time stamp
Amazing guide. I really appreciate it! Also, as a gay man with a more fem voice, I enjoyed the section about being confident, respecting yourself and acknowledging your strengths. I'm often afraid to use voice due to past experiences but I may try again. Thank-you!
Casually drops this as I'm beginning my Lucio journey. Love the vid thanks mommy eskay for teaching us 🥺✨
It nay be a little early to say this definitively, but I've been seeing immediate improvement in my gameplay after watching only a part of this video. Whether I'm on Lucio or not. Don't wanna jinx it, but I might finally solidly place in Plat instead of just peaking Plat 5 and deranking. Eskay is the best.
Actual queen shit in response to that transphobic genji an hour in 💅
from one self-made sister to anther, lysm eskay, you inspire me to be better at the game and still enjoy it :3
I didn't know that she was trans until now and I was like: Is the genji insane? I mean he still is but imo eskay passes. (I thought she's a smoker but don't tell her that)
I love the doomfist coming in like 'are you talking to ME?' and 'you don't know me like that', love the allyship
"Are you gay?" 🤮
Seeing Eskay keeping calm (not sure what was inside, I would flip out) is in itself a learning experience...
Eskay, this was insanely useful and entertaining. I've been wanting to learn Lucio, and this inspired me to give him a shot again. It's great to see someone who has mastered the character breaking down how to actually play him and be useful to the team. Clearly there is a lot of room for mechanical skill expression on Lucio, but that takes time to develop. The mindset for playing the character that you're showing here is way more important and provides a solid foundation to build those mechanics on. I got more out of watching a couple hours of this than every other unranked to GM combined.
Also, I haven't been using comms since I started playing the game again, and I thought it was crazy that it took an hour of games before someone really said anything, and it was a transphobe flamer. Nearly 2 hours in with a lobby of high diamond, we finally get a call out for a CD. Absolutely insane the state VC is in these days.
This is so useful that I was like "okay fine ill get over my fear of using lucio" as a support main lol
Eskay is a national treasure for making this vid. A gift from god. I don't even play lucio but I learned stuff I can apply to other heroes.
I've been waiting for an essay video long enough to sleep to thank you ur the best :3
That's how i personally master everything. I try to play the hardest songs and eventually catch up. It's just how i learn. To each their own though. I've noticed knowing when to not be the carry also is very useful sometimes.
I remember red shell tried doing something like this in overwatch 1 where he just didn’t shoot anyone to show how you can climb as Lucio without having much mechanical skill. Unfortunately he only did one episode due to mental health reasons (iirc) but this guide is super helpful! Thanks for the 7 hours of just raw knowledge
Mauler could never make a 7 hour video this good.
Two straight days to watch this, lovely content, tyty Eskay!
Thanks for the video! I really enjoyed it!
I feel like you have watched some of the unranked to GM1s from Melio lol, i might be wrong tho haha, great video anyway queen! i used to play in surf lucio only, loving the speed, always scared of doing shit in ranked (i'm tracer/ana main) you made me want to try him in real game now ^^'

brig: whipshots her out of being mech crushed

the good news is brig didn't boop at the same time. sometimes they can tell what you are about to do and do it too and lucio could have been launched worst into ult but both boops makes you launch further.

This is the best unranked to gm I’ve seen
What if I’m new to Mouse and Keyboard and I’m just bad at pressing the keys? How do I get good at the skill it takes to play on a keyboard before I apply these tips?
Time
assuming you are talking about lucio, you can also just practice wallriding in custom games, however i wouldnt recommend lucio surf because most servers have grav speed which makes wallriding different
but yeah main thing is practice and time
@@Leprechaun2702they said new to keyboard and mouse
@@Leprechaun2702 both lucio and in general I guess. Like I’ve been playing OW 1 on console since day one and i main lucio so I know how the game works. It’s just frustrating to basically be back at a beginners level since I’m making the switch from controller to M&K. Idk how to hit all the correct keys without fat fingering other ones lol
@@gaines8807 it does just take time, but personally when i was learning i changed my keyboard settings (rgb) to highlight the keys i used often (wasd e lshift etc). that helped a lot when i did the quick look down to find the key, but after a few months it just became natural and i turned it off.
The fact we all know who she is talking about at the start is WILD to me XD
well... this is awkward
I would really like to see this kind of video for kiriko, as I think she is one of the most misunderstood heroes in the "dps support" playstyle. Honestly, when I was deep in my rank grind and just looking for hope on how to rank up I fell into those traps and de-ranked all the way to bronze. Also, I learned a lot from this video about lucio (A hero I don't even play), so I would like to know what tips you would give for supports like kiriko or ana.
kiriko is strong af imo, like, even if you don't use her dps capability (which a beginner shouldn't anyway because unlike someone like moira, kiriko it's totally mechanics based, her dps comes mostly from headshots), kiriko as a heal bot is super strong and having cleanse and a scape ability makes her straight up meta in some match ups and team comps
I kinda wish there was a Lucio skin that shot heart projectiles for realsies, that crosshair is making me see things
I could listen to you all day long ❤
If u have heal/speed change on space do u have wallriding, jumping bound to like right mouse button? Curious cuz I can’t figure it out :DD
I believe she does, you might be able to find it in one of her wall-riding/lucio guides. scroll-wheel or right click to jump is the easiest way to be able to consistently do a lot of the 'tech' like bunny-hopping and skipping off poles etc.
Scroll wheel, since it allows for more accurate timing on jumps.
not even a minute into it, and already liked the video for the speech intro about "unranked to gm" abuse.
You can beat away from your team? And then ride to them after?
Omg you should totally make one for ana if you have the time ❤❤
How can you ell when you are doing your job as Lucio and when do you feel it's time to swap?

Tip 1 - Unbind your swap to heal button on lucio!
Eskay said the exact opposite when talking about DPS Lucio vs more conservative Lucio play 😅

How do you know...when to switch between heals and speed?
eskay for president
heyaa my questions is can i start playing lucio and be usefull even tho i can't ride walls jump like you do?
Wallriding will get you to the place where you should be quicker.
But knowing where you should be is more important than getting there quickly.
Dammn Eskay looks fire today
good work
I've tried the bridge touch on Colosseo so many times in my low-mid rank games. It's crazy because I feel like I just trolling because inevitably my teammate will feed and I'm not there to keep them alive. Then it becomes a 4v5 and eventually a 3v5. Sometimes it feels like I have to follow my teammates and do the stupid thing with them even though the bridge touch is a good strategy.

Finally an education video that isn’t spending the entire duration exclaiming: “off angle, do damage, get away when things get bad” as the strat for almost every hero. We love Eskay!!!!!! 😊
I mean off angling and damaging them does actually work.
@@lucarlocfc8918 You didn't listen to the start of the video; doing that as a support when you're not a smurf is going to throw a LOT of games before it actually starts to work, and the playstyle altogether will fall apart as you climb the ladder and lose the placement volatility.
@@lucarlocfc8918Now, if this was for most of the damage heroes, that advice would boost a ton of damage players at LEAST to Plat. But support has a bit more to think about.
Flanking and off-angling are different things though. Off angling is always good, flanking is good at certain times and situations@@fizzlock
But that’s literally what she did in the video. She was constantly on an off-angle, she was constantly doing damage and she fell back when necessary.

7hr Eskay video is a godsend on my sick day 🙏🙏🙏 so much better than the unranked to GM videos I've seen. Although last time I watched one for Lucio, the guy playing went on a huge homophobic rant in the middle of it x.x so it's not a huge bar for Eskay to hop over 😅
Thankyou eskay for this video!!! Entertaining, informative and making fun of terfs and bigots, we love to see it
Good lord 7 hours? Ayy
Idc what anyone says, it all comes down to mechanical PERIOD I've studied these educational videos with so many and the biggest take away is their mechanical skills. Every time Ive hit a new medal it was mostly because of better control🏅 other factors such as position and decision making will make your ranking up process a lot easier of course but it comes down to mechanical. Ive heard the top 100 players disagree with this theory but because at their skill level, EVERYONE there has above average mechanical skills so decision making at that level is more important. Watching this video, the first match, eskay does not miss hitting tracer and I'm like yup it's straight up mechanical and putting in the hours to teach those hands 😂
Awkward said the same thing
I completely disagree with your first point, I was able to climb out of Low Plat to Masters 2 following Awkward's advice season 7 on Kiriko.
Good video overall though, Just feels like the first part was unnecessary sounded really aggressive.
Unnecessary and aggressive sounds a hell of a lot like Awkward tbh

Old master rank is like high plat/diamond now?
yeah, it's a bit of a mess that's slowly cleaning itself up. I was masters 2 on tank, went like 50-50 in placements and landed in plat 1 after the big reset. if you were in that rank when the reset happened and you checked other people's ranks from past seasons it was a mix of gold players that got boosted up with the rank adjustment, forever plat players, and sprinkles of other ex-masters players. I think in the long-run it will be good, some of those masters players clearly don't have the skill to climb back up, and it's made the ranked curve I think more reflective of players' skills but it does mean ye ole 2800sr elo-hell is back in *full* force. not to say anyone is getting stuck there who doesn't somewhat deserve it, but it's where players with a weird distribution of skills tend to butt heads with each other the most. it personally killed my motivation to play the game for a bit, as did the ow1-ow2 reset that only artificially lowered people's ranks. it put me down to plat, I said fuck that, did placements the next season and it booted me down to gold but all my games were still against diamond/masters players which made no one happy lol eventually they adjusted everyone's shown rank to match their hidden mmr which was nice so I got it back no problem but I didn't play for a long time because of it. not gonna grind against diamond/masters players for hours just so that the badge will match the games I'm in, if it's not gonna move neither am I lol
