So I went to US a year ago to visit my relatives. We took a road trip across Oregon and stopped at a tank station to fuel up I suddenly heard a loud yet wonderful sound coming from a semi and now I know that it was Jake Braking. Such wonderful sound!

Wish I had this when I was driving eighteen wheelers over the Smokys , Alleghenies and Rocky mountains! The company I was driving for actually had teams crash and killed coming down the mountains when their brakes caught on fire! People that are not truck drivers think going up the mountains are the tough part, but actually it's coming down the mountains that is the most dangerous! I was driving a Freightliner and without Jake Brakes hauling 22 tons and it almost happened to me to! What happens is the weight of the load pushes the truck faster and faster down the mountain and the driver slows down the truck, for there is often a cop or county mounty behind a sign waiting for you along the way to increase the counties revenues, but when the brakes are let up, air gets to the hot brakes and ignites and burns the brakes! Most people don't think about that! By the way, people talk of bad truck drivers, but I have seem four wheelers doing really crazy things!
nightlightabcd your old automotive engineering is fascinating. Here in europe, you can drive down a steep hill with 85km/h (~50mp/h) without any issues. Our "jake break" has various stages and is very reliable, even with a 25 ton load.

I dig em, great workhorse engine that's fairly simple. Might not be as powerful or expensive as a cat , but they do a damn fine job. (I'm talking the pre emissions stuff) Still love my drippin 2 strokes , but the 60 has done a fairly decent job taking the reigns.

When he engages it, the piston will reach TDC on its compression stroke and instead of using that compression for the power stroke it will be released out the auxiliary exhaust valve, which decreases engine power significantly and slows the vehicle.

There is a trucker in my city that very obviously owns his own truck, it is possible to hear his turbo whistle and cough when he shifts from over a mile away, Aswell as him being fucked over by the lights. I have four kids, all of them girls. Sounds like this was essential to getting them to fall asleep when babies. Looks like all those years of running duals with long tube headers on my k5 blazer was a good thing after all. It taught them what good music sounds like when you're in the womb.
@@westcustomsvr I never had any malfunctions with it always on. I have gotten so used to it all those years that I forgot how to switch gears with it off. I honestly never heard such a thing. I also drove a automatic Dodge flatbed and a peterbilt medium duty flatbed (which I currently still drive now) with the engine brake on full time and never had any issues.

Electric motors regen are self braking when no power is being applied to them. Saw a video of a Tesla towing about 5k lbs down the steepest grade in the country and they had to actually give it some throttle to stay up to speed.

honestly man recording vids with your phone is not nearly as bad as texting as driving. when i record while i drive i usually keep two hands on the wheel and never look at my phone, when people text and drive its a lot more dangerous because you are trying to have a text conversation with someone as you are operating a vehicle

Alec nolastname I never turn mine off. They’re good deterrent for people riding my ass when shifting as my brake lights flash with every shift. They most definitely help with sudden stops as it increases the force to slow you down. Sometimes it’s the difference in getting stopped in time and possibly killing a family of 5 that just flat pulled out in front of you
The sounds in ATS are disappointing to say the least. But, then again, so are modern trucks. That's why I'm running the Freightliner FLB mod with a 600 Cummins N14!

I wish the jake brake sounded that good in American Truck Simulator.
take the sound record it and replace the audio file with the engine youll use in the game. Just make a copy of the original sound. btw your welcome
Not as simple as that. I don't know where to start to access game resources and you'd need to record the sound at different engine speeds
The sounds in ATS are disappointing to say the least. But, then again, so are modern trucks. That's why I'm running the Freightliner FLB mod with a 600 Cummins N14!
