    Great Video! I was at Thunder Lake 20 years ago . It was one of my first hikes in RMNP. i looked up my Pictures and the date I was there was Aug. 2 1998. Looks like it was my first Hike in RMNP. I remember it was a long hike. I"m glad I could see it again with your Video!

      Its one of the best lakes in RMNP! Hopefully I will get back there this year and do Mahana via the east ridge.

    Need to do this someday, just amazing seeing the damage still from when the Lawn Lake Dam burst.

    Hi Nick- I’ve been wanting to do this combo, but just haven’t got it on my calendar yet. After seeing your recap & video, it’s now at the top of my list!

    When you were in that dense vegetation; it reminds me of hiking back east. Alot of trails are like that and wind up disappearing altogether if no one goes down it for a month or so.

    Awesome hike, you two! It seems there were so many "postcard" shots in this video. Beautiful views! I am partial to the mountains lakes with the mountains as the background. This one may be on our list of hikes to do.. The thing is I don't have a GPS and so we may just attempt it and see how far we get... Your camera just takes amazing videos! Everything is very sharp in focus and the colors are beautiful. We are counting down the days here in TN until we get to CO. Got the passes for each day already now I need to check into the Brainard Lake area permits :) We think you should be paid by RMNP for all the awesome advertising that you do through your hikes! Thanks for always sharing with us. Your #1 Tennessee Fans, Todd & Silke

    Gonna try Box Lake later this month. Got across Thunder Lake outlet a ways last year but thought I would run out of time, so turned around. It was beautiful.

      If you can get to Box its worth it to try the little extra to get to Eagle. Good luck with the adventure!

    What an amazing hike! You two definitely qualify as avid RMNP hikers! As I write this we are currently visiting the park. We planned our hikes from watching your videos. I have to say this one would be a little long for us, so I wanted to say congrats to you both for completing it! On a side note, I can’t thank you enough for your videos showing the “secret” fire trail off of the Glacier Gorge trail. We used it coming down from from Sky Pond the other day. That was our second hike and we were still fatigued from the altitude and cutting that short was wonderful. Also, no crowds!! Thank you!!

    • @nicksangetta8874
      @nicksangetta8874  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Glad the inside info helped! I love the fire trail so much. It makes some of the harder hikes possible. Enjoy the rest of your stay in the park! Thanks for watching

    Hi, can you tell me if hiking to Thunder Lake is as steep as hiking to Chasm? We did Chasm on Thursday. Definitely a great experience and so Beautiful! I really want to see Thunder Lake before the snow comes. Hopefully we can reserve a camping spot next summer and explore Box, Eagle and Frigid Lake too. I don't want to wait a year to see Thunder Lake. I'm the fan of your videos who commented a few weeks ago about how your hiking videos inspired me to get back into exploring the great outdoors. We've done 9 hikes since July, 27, 2021. I can't get enough!

    • @nicksangetta8874
      @nicksangetta8874  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thunder Lake is not as steep as Chasm, but the hike is much longer. The gain is stretched out over a longer distance, but it has some spots of up. Especially if you take the campsite shortcut. That trail is a little rougher. To get to Thunder youre looking at about 6.2 miles and just over a 2000 ft gain.

    A great video. What about that smaller peak west of Thunder Lk? I have been looking on maps and haven’t found a name. Could be a fun climb.

    • @nicksangetta8874
      @nicksangetta8874  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I dont think it has a name. It just shows it as a high point on the map. Looks cool though!

    looking at the map, I had assumed the bushwhack between Thunder & Eagle would be much worse than that. now I want to do a loop going out to Bluebird, Pipit, Isolation peak, then Frigid, Eagle, Box

    • @nicksangetta8874
      @nicksangetta8874  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep! That loop would be totally doable. Once you are up to Frigid you are pretty much up to the Mahana-Isolation saddle. Looks all open up there. I think the hardest part may be getting around Eagle Lake to the slope that goes up to Frigid, but its probably not that bad.

    • @alquinn8576
      @alquinn8576 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nicksangetta8874 yeah that part looks the most frustrating--probably lots of up & down around the eastern end of the lake

    • @nicksangetta8874
      @nicksangetta8874  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@alquinn8576 But once you get around the lake there is a nice ramp that leads up to the next level. Looks pretty good from that point on.

    • @rachabob1879
      @rachabob1879 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I’ve done Eagles Beak from Bluebird Lake and then down the Eagle Lake side an the hardest part is easily going up to Frigid from Eagle Lake, it’s not technical but the krumholtz and loose rock can be very time and energy consuming. It’s definitely a very doable loop tho

    Nick ... Another great video ... Which has inspired me to put this hike on my to do list ... I do have a couple of questions ... You referenced a book in the video ... Were you referring to the one by L. Foster? ... And ... W/respect to taking the video ... What kind of setup do you use to capture the awesome scenery so smoothly as you walk along? ... Thanks again ... Craig

    • @nicksangetta8874
      @nicksangetta8874  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Craig! Yes, the book is the one by Lisa Foster. Rocky Mountain National Park: The Complete Hiking Guide. Ive used my book so much the pages are almost falling out! The camera I use 98% of the time now is the GoPro Hero 9. Its so smooth when Im walking. I love it. For the super zooms I bring my Nikon B700.
