I have no desire to have a relationship after my divorce. No one will ever again have a veto on what i do what i spend money or time on, where i eat or vacation
I am turning 59 and am fit like a 30. Work hard n stay fit. It not only makes you look good but feel good as well and with that kind of positivity one can pull off with most of the trends. 40 is young !!
I do wonder if I'm in a midlife crisis... Lost 180 lbs and now building muscle, got into fashion, dressing like Aaron Marino in his "Badass/bad boy" videos lol. Also got myself a Camaro, and getting more tail than ever... If it is a midlife crisis, I suggest it. It's fun! 😂
I’m just getting started, been through a depressive state, coming out the other side now with help. I’m spending time carefully clothing myself, buying fragrances. I keep my stuff tidy, my car clean. I’m in a good place
I am 70 years old and feel the same way that you just stated at much younger age. Thanks for your video. One problem I had was my wife who died who arrange to be with other people. Now I realize that I have to go out and do it myself, that is OK
Well said!!! Age 52 Airborne jump school and travel the around the world. Now 73 started a business for the first time, running four marathons this year, several bass fishing tournament in the works, learning to play several music instruments and planning a garden with the wife. Always moving forward and if it's the last day of my life I'll probably be planting an apple tree in the backyard. There will be ups and downs in your life at any age so just keep on moving forward!!!! and live!!!! Awesome video!!!!!!
TH-cam must be psychic as I’ve really been struggling. My self esteem is very low and it’s destroying my relationship with a wonderful woman. This video has come up at the perfect time. Thanks John. Keep up the good work.
I am 58. This is so true. I find myself retreating into my shell every time there’s an opportunity to hang out, giving myself the lame excuse that I am not feeling well, too tired or whatever. One thing I never regretted though is looking after my health, fitness and fashion sense since my 30s. People usually say I look 40 and I get stares even from teenage girls! That’s scary and a bit uncomfortable though.😅😅😅
I know the feeling. Go to Brooks Brothers and get a new outfit, sport jacket shirt and trousers (and a snazzy pocket square) and go out to a few nice bars/lounges. Quite refreshing!
"It is never too late, and you are never too old to make a change, and start something new." Words of wisdom! In my early 20's at university I was working on my engineering major and there were people in their 50's in my class. I was scratching my head. Now at 60, I get it.
I have friends my age who have more but they are like rats on a treadmill. They are not taking care of themselves or assessing what they want from life. Just working to keep the balls in the air. Many are overweight or in poor health but the expectations of their family and society are blinding them to reality
I am 65. I came to terms with my own mortality about age 25, when I nearly died from a Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) and a Pulomary Embolism. It gave me a whole new outlook. And as time goes by, such incidents have less and less impact unless I actually review it on a regular basis. We need wake up calls and tipping points in our lives. I've had many ups and (mostly :-/ downs. Last year was my worst, and the beginning of my best, going forward. I am now my own doctor, therapist, nutritionist, pastor, psychologist, personal trainer, and much more, and with very good results. It's not that I disregard what they have to say - only that I also do my own research and experimentation, along with their recommendations. I simply don't follow their dogma without question. As for a skin care regime, my face gets wet when I shower :-D I'm serious. I may be very lucky, as most people guess my age as 10-20 years younger. If, however, you take a closer look around my eyes, you may see my true age. I do have laugh lines and a bit of bagginess, but it's nothing I'm ashamed of. If nothing else, it tells people that "I took the shot." (No, not referring to the grassy knoll!) :-)
Great video John. I'm a bit of a late bloomer, but I do see now that I'm no longer a young adult, but a regular adult. At the very least you have inspired me to think more about what I wear and how to properly dress in different scenarios.
I'm 54 and passed my sale by date😂😂 i feel good when people glance on how good i look when I'm out. (when i try) however i. I'm happy being single. Have a loyal dog(shepsky) who bullys me(when she wants attention) takes me money(on vets bills) but always loyal. I'm totally happy how my life is and i live it fully.
Well put and spot on, thanks John, great way to start a Saturday. I'd add as well to work hard on your ability to spot positive and negative people so you can embrace the former and delete the latter.
My biggest problem is living in a rural area with severe vision problems. It’s difficult to continue making your mark on the world when part of your sensory competence slips. With that a man loses status and mobility means loss social groups and prospects for romantic partnerships.
We cant sit around waiting for some miraculous great thing to happen in our life. Each of us needs to put effort into making our days, weeks and years better before they slip away. Get moving. Look for ways to be physically active and more healthy. Take time to feel and look your best. Be grateful every day. It might be your last…
I live on the East Coast, so it's winter, and it can be difficult to get out and be social, but I'm looking forward to getting out and finding things to do in the next few months. I did briefly rediscover mini golf last summer it was fun haven't done that in a long time since i was a teenager. However, I did get out to see a movie earlier this week. The Beekeeper with Jason Statham great action movie.
Your unique schtick of fashion/image centered philosophically oriented psych help for the old dude is on point. Your the Jordan Peterson for guys over 40.
Hell of a topic to digest over morning coffee but there you go. 53, single for 11 years, been thru all of what you just described and I highly agree that growing up in the 70-80's does not place you well for dealing with social mores & customs today. To add to that, i will soon know if I have Adult ADHD after many prompts from my daughter and friends to get checked. Call it a late epiphany but sometimes you don't see what's right in front of you your whole life. It was not a thing docs or parents looked for back when I was a kid. My Daughters diagnosis had my ex pointing out, post divorce, that I am 90% of everything that the doc described and "... that now explains a lot about what happened.".... Didn't really sink in but it's time now to get that answered. It certainly would shed a new light on my difficulties with people in general, my decisions and why 'normal' advice, practices & methods just don't make sense sometimes. One way or another the answer will shape the way I move forward. And I will move forward. Keep doing what you're doing. It makes a difference.
Getting closer to 50 is when you cant pretend. If anything you face your own barriers what your old man faced. Only diffence btw your time and his is you goto to embrace change.
Hello John. Thank you for this wonderful video! You are certainly right, we need to change for the right reasons. I am turning 64 next week, I can believe it but it is true! I am looking forward to change many things in my life, I need those changes. By the way, you look great! I know you have mentioned your age before, but man, you look awesome!! Thank you for this video and all your encouragement. Always looking forward for your next video. Have fun and stay safe! Cheers.
Fortunately, I consciously explored fashion and invested in exercise and a skin care routine in my early twenties. Now in my fifties, I feel blessed to still look like I’ve got it together. I watch this channel to confirm that I’m still on track-and to make sure that John hasn’t done something rash like sell his AMG for a Prius.😂
I feel completely done. I failed my kids as a father, I have never enjoyed my career so I just took the easy route with it and now my body; namely my back, is starting to rebel against me. I love my wife more than I could ever put into words, but because of my depression and anxiety medication, I can't even perform for her anymore without more medication. I honestly think sometimes that it would be so much easier for everyone just to not be here anymore. If I did die though, my family would fall apart financially, so I power through at my shitty job that pays well that I can't ever leave because of said money. I'm trying to find a bright side. I guess I'm just venting, but I turned 40 in February and I really have no goals or dreams. I just want my wife and kids to be happy I guess before I inevitably die early due to the abuse I did to my body as an addict.
There's nothing to hide from. That's the issue at hand. That glorious day has finally arrived that I've fantasized about where I have more than five minutes to call my own. Actually, it's all the time in the world. I'm staring into the void, and the void is..............void. The ugly truth is I have no options. The options I do have no longer bring me any sense of purpose or joy. I'm not alone. The small group of single men I now hang out with make me feel like I've got my act together because I "appear" that way. I'm struggling as much as they are.
Every day is your choice on what kinda day you will have. The 24 hrs will come and go regardless of your choice the only difference will be how you choose to spend it
A week before I turned 40 my now ex-wife asked for a divorce. Apparently, in her eyes, I was too boring. I turn 59 this year and after a few bumps in the road I'm loving life. I pretty much shun dating & relationships. I work part time while looking at retirement in the near future. I workout 6 days a week. I've always looked after my diet & skin care. I dress well on the rare occasions I go out. I enjoy my hobbies & interests. I politely thank them but brush off compliments from women. As dark as some phases of your life may get, always stay true to your path. Life WILL get better. Oh, and about five years after my divorce my ex-wife asked me if I wanted to get back together & try again. My reply was, "Not if she was the last woman on earth."
Great advice and suggestions, John. I'm definitely one of those Introverts in this world. Yes, I know No man is an Island....but too many people and noise can crowd a Man's Island. Less is more.. like under 10 people with you on your island 😂😁😏
The bottom line is that if you want to improve your situation, you have to get out of your comfort zone and try new/different things. Good or bad, those experiences are a great source of growth in life. Like anything, it takes the first step to get going and it gets easier every time. You’ll be amazed at how much more you enjoy life. As quoted from Shawshank Redemption: “Get busy living, or get busy dying”.
Ahh mate, was absolutely with you until you started to sell me products. Thought it was an honest reflection on getting older and taking charge of your life.. sorry, turned me right off.. another selling video. Over and out.. disappointed..

The older I get the better I become. You transition from being women oriented to being self-improvement oriented. I’m 68 and I love it!
Love that!
I admire you immensely for that 👍🏻💪🏻👏🏻
Fitness is key to physical well-being. Friendships are the key to mental well-being. If you have both, you're probably doing well.
I have no desire to have a relationship after my divorce. No one will ever again have a veto on what i do what i spend money or time on, where i eat or vacation
Same here. They take over then expect a severance payment.
I am turning 59 and am fit like a 30. Work hard n stay fit. It not only makes you look good but feel good as well and with that kind of positivity one can pull off with most of the trends. 40 is young !!
I agree being fit puts you in a higher category of men. You are seen as more successful more virile and more desirable
Absolutely!
Change is not bad as long as you change for the correct reasons.
Birthday? Screw that! I go through phases...right now I'm leaving my Brad Pitt phase entering my Clooney phase on my to my Sean Connery phase
It's fun! 😂

Most men past 40 let themselves go that's disgusting but I'm glad men like you and myself don't feel that way

This video has come up at the perfect time.
Thanks John. Keep up the good work.
You got this!
Everyone can change, however we all have a different time path to change. Some want it right away, while others want it to happen gradually.
I am 58. This is so true. I find myself retreating into my shell every time there’s an opportunity to hang out, giving myself the lame excuse that I am not feeling well, too tired or whatever.

Legend. Great video! Sometimes it’s not just about style. It’s life and lifestyle. I’m living my dream!
Thanks John, had many chapters in my life, 68 now trying to turn the page. Want to try living in Mexico, life is beautiful, live it to fullest 🎉🎉
You can do it!
"It is never too late, and you are never too old to make a change, and start something new." Words of wisdom! In my early 20's at university I was working on my engineering major and there were people in their 50's in my class. I was scratching my head. Now at 60, I get it.
Thankyou. I needed this today! 48 and feeling old. 👍👍👍
I have friends my age who have more but they are like rats on a treadmill. They are not taking care of themselves or assessing what they want from life. Just working to keep the balls in the air. Many are overweight or in poor health but the expectations of their family and society are blinding them to reality
One thing people never think about is. Running and jogging outside is 100% free but yet 100% effective
100% correct!
Try and stay fit be happy smile and be kind age is just a number.Rock on😎✌️
AMEN! Embrace the suck, boys! It shows of the character we've developed. Great job John!
As much as I dig your videos and fashion/lifestyle, videos with these messages really resonate. Thanks for sharing.
I appreciate that!
So True...I had so many depression stages from 40,and it is not easy to get out of it
❤❤❤❤❤you are so wise..76 year old woman..the same is for women.

Spot on John! I struggle with this issue each & every day. Thanks for doing this video my friend.
My pleasure!
PERIOD! As the young people say.
Some excellent advice here, on change, style and skin care! @75 my experiences fully support the sentiments expressed 👏👏👏

You’re only 40. You still have over half your life left right in front of you! Remember that! It’s never too late.
Sometimes, I (M43) feel like I'm reflecting, too much. It's like, man, just live in the now. Enjoy the ride 🌇
So true!
Damn John, you're batting a solid .700 for me and hitting line drives. Keep these coming.
Appreciate that!
Thank you sir. 👍🏻
My pleasure!
at age 60, we should at best hope to achieve 1000 good weeks more to live.... we have to make good choices in our life
