    Leicester is a city located in the East Midlands, England and the county town of Leicestershire.
    Leicester's history stretches back over 2,000 years, hence why it's the originator of the standard English language. Romans came across an Iron Age settlement in Leicester from around 1st or 2nd century BC.
    Outside of India, Leicester holds the world's biggest celebration of the Hindu Festival of Lights, Diwali.
    The remains of Richard III, the last king of the House of York and the last of the Plantagenet dynasty were discovered in Leicester.

    Wow! This takes me back, though the Leicester I left in 1996 is unrecognisable. I was a student there at the time, enjoyed many nights out to zoots and krystals. Remember the shires shopping centre, and also frequenting filbert st. Lived off the Narborough Rd and It was a great place to study.

    I lived/worked there in the 70's and 80's and as others comment on this post it has changed a lot. The City centre seemed to miss out when the Fosse Park shopping centre opened so it's good to see the city centre now developed. Problem now I feel is will our current stay at home buy online society support city shopping in the future or will a lot of retail developments change into residential?

    Fantastic video. I'm just starting out trying my hand at doing some walking videos and I'm absolutely loving it. Great idea doing them in the rain, will have to give it a go.

    I loved Leicester from the 60's up to the 90's and then it seemed to take a bit of a down turn. I left for good in 2010. But miss the people, the curry houses, the restaurants and pubs... Making a brief return this summer, August 2023, got a lot of catching up to do

      What do you mean by down turn, what happened?

    • @rowley1950
      @rowley1950 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Mary-stephen Maybe just my opinion. But to me England as a whole, not just Leicester, started to decline right across the board with lifestyle and behaviour, like a former wonderful and prosperous city now in decline.

      @@Drian12_1-pn3oi I moved to the Philippines. To the island called Palawan. Not saying it is better, but different. Also its not my own country like England is, so I dont get so hurt when I see problems, unlike I used to back when I lived in Leicester

      @rowley1950 I'm from Luton, and I can't stand it anymore. I was thinking of buying my first home north Leicester, but now it seems like every city in uk is trash

    Born and lived in Leicester until 1985, planning a return visit in the summer... Think I shall need a guide, think I might get lost

    Although I wish Leicester well ,i deplore their appropriation of our Richard, who had northern roots ,sympathies and associations and expressly wished to be buried in yorkshire ..it is kidnap.... despite leicesters wonderful work in unearthing his remains...do the honourable thing and return him to his rightful place of rest.

    Grew up there. Not been there since probably 2002. Unrecognisable and identical to and as bland as every other city centre in the UK 😑

      I saw plenty of white people in the video. The majority of people in British cities are White. What's your problem?
