Travel is the primary driver behind my goal to reach financial independence, and videos like this are motivating, and contextualize how far my money will get me abroad. Thanks for sharing! Where I live in Canada, food looks comparable, electricity and a phone is significantly cheaper in Sydney. Car insurance is lower, but gas is more expensive. House prices and rent is where Sydney kills ya. 1m+ for a 2 bedroom condo larger than a closet. I could buy 3 houses here for that. 2000 a month for rent is like a penthouse suite downtown. Also australia taxes are significantly higher.
Interesting to hear from Canada thanks Genevieve 🙌🏻 Yup so true 2bedroom apartments in good location closer to city can be 1mil+ 😆 so yeah Sydney's property (buy/rent) is the killer so most of income just to pay that rent/mortgage 😭

@@nickandhelmi it all depends on the location if your more far away from the CBD it would be much cheaper like you could easily get a 1 bedroom apartment for 150 - 170 dollars and groceries i think woolies is quite cheap if you wanna buy a bag of chips (woolies branded) it only costs about 1.60 AUD and much more woolies essentials are SUPER cheap.

Yes 45% tax but that is only for people earning over $180k. Plus if you are earning they much usually people have a good account who can find many deductions to reduce the tax.
even in other country the fact the we used our skills to have food every day it is really cheaper, I owe you for sharing this very informative lets celebrate together finished ity till the end.

I'm here in Toronto. Loved Australia and hope to go back. Rents here are expensive but told my Aussies that food and rent is higher in Sydney. Most professionals up here make $80-$100,000....most 20 somethings can afford a house up here.
Toronto is also really nice city to live in. I mean Canada in general actually really nice country to live. Beautiful nature and wow cheaper than Aussie🤩 tempted hahaa
You two have nailed it. You're great presenters, your content is excellent in sound and video quality, cam angles and editing, and (just an idea) if you worked on a bit more detail and strecthed them out to about 30 minutes each - you're not at all boring so it would be very watchable - you could travel the world making a different city each time and make a great living out of this. You're easily, to this century, what Lonely Planet books were to the last century. Start by doing Melbourne and Brisbane, finish off Australia, then head to Europe where any city is a couple of hours away. Don't be afraid to credit sponsors - just make sure they're credible and in line with the honest image you're presenting. You really are the best at this that I've seen, and as you know there are a lot of people doing it. Don't be scared off by the competition - you're the BEST. Well done! :)
Omg thank you so much Colin for your lovely comment 😭 we never receive beautiful comments like this before🙏🏻 Always thought we'll be so boring if stretch out too long 😆 and yes our dream actually to travel & make living from this, right now still working towards it. I'm always nervous to drink it. The first time I ever did it was in Venice because it was apparently the BEST! We really hope to visit Sydney some day and all of this information is super helpful! Where we are in Bali at the moment. We have been here for 5 months and we actually feel that eating out may be cheaper then cooking groceries. Crazy at it sounds, but if you budget everything out, it works out better though we generally find street food! We also don't have access to a kitchen so we try to make it work. Hey Nick and Helmi!! So great to see you guys and awesome you're doing a cost of living in Sydney. The prices are similar to living in Los Angeles. Loved checking out the markets where you guys go. The prices seem very comparable as well. The only thing that seems a lot higher is petrol prices. Here it's about $3.50/Gallon, and even that is expensive for where we live.

Hey guys, thanks for sharing! I have seen many shared rooms to rent for 180 per week in Pyrmont (close to CBD), and it makes me wonder if the decrease in the price is due to the pandemic we are facing? You mentioned that the minimum price could be 250 per week so... am I right?
Hi Pamela, yes definitely one of them is due to pandemic, also quality of room and the landlord itself. Many factors :) 250 is definitely just a guide 😬, pre pandemic though
I have been everywhere in Europe Asia nothing like Australia Sydney is the best in 2010 life was okay and beautiful even before the economy crisis 2007 after 2012 when the house prices start rising and everything start getting expensive it was getting hard before was easy everything is cheap and affordable we didn’t care
Yeah during the mining & property boom, all prices hike up so crazily😳. Now in 2020 the house prices are actually lower but other living expenses are still high. Hopefully Aust will get through this hard times 🙏🏻
Wow, so prices on transportation change based on the distance and the time you use it? That's insane for us, in NY is always the same price no matter what
Liz Liang ..yep...the Sunday cap price use to be $2.80 but now they have increase it starting this month to $8.05(cap)for Saturday and Sunday where use to be only on Sundays..that means u can use it on all public transportation(Bus,Train,Ferry & Light rail)..
Nowadays: Yes! :) You just need to tell the real estate agent. Also depends on the size of the dog, say if it's big one, normally they will ask you to look for ground floor apartment that have bigger balcony.

Thumbs up! Great video as always Nick and Helmi :)
Glad you enjoyed it, thank you!!
Wow, so prices on transportation change based on the distance and the time you use it? That's insane for us, in NY is always the same price no matter what
Ohh i see, that's cheap then. Yep in Sydney, depends on the distance lol... It can go up to double for long journey 😆
In Sydney yes, not in Melbourne though. You buy a ticket based on time. So a two hour ticket or an all day ticket.

Hi! I was curious to know if the apartment buildings in Sydney are typically dog friendly? Thanks a bunch ☺️
Nowadays: Yes! :) You just need to tell the real estate agent. Also depends on the size of the dog, say if it's big one, normally they will ask you to look for ground floor apartment that have bigger balcony.
