@Gaytony For the average non Judeo-Christian it doesn’t make sense, because God is not, in their minds, the omnipotent, omniscient, being that he is. The Sabbath was a day that God set aside for the Jews, that happened once a week, in which they would not work, and its purpose was so that they would meditate on God and pray to him. God made the law because relationship with him is one of the most important things ever for a Judeo-Christian; for us, if we don’t meditate on God, we will very much likely fall into sin and temptations, and that’s why God cares so much about us keeping the Sabbath.

As a Christian who is studying to be a scientist, I don not understand why is there a need to bash religion. I really feel that scientists nowadays seem to want to promote anti-intellectual behavior among those who are listening, such that they can be seen as "gods of knowledge".

Our Sunday school teacher would reiterate that the Jews back then were very proficient in stoning, this was their number one skill, and they were able to kill with one strike, and they would usually finish striking with a second stone just to make sure. So stoning to death was a piece of cake not work. Therefore technically it was't sin.
I just wish that God had included "don't boil children in their mother's milk" (Deuteronomy 14:21) in the Ten Commandments. Now THAT is a good commandment!

I have no idea about the existence of the Universe. The mind is the focus of the Bible, and many other "religious" texts. Our beliefs, whether true or not shape us, psychologically speaking. Our psyches are formed by many experiences and beliefs garnered from knowledge. Some of that knowledge comes from outside of us, and some of it is produced from within. Many believe things that simply are not true, consequences follow. Cause and effect are always in play. Some see God as the Universe itself, with all of its powers, forces, energies, and laws of nature that govern all things within it. Perpetually forming and transforming matter and energy. Some see God as our own mind, not the brain, but the "ghost' in the machine. It guides us throughout our lives, for better or worse, depending on the state of a person's psyche. Our psyche is the supreme force and power that affects all aspects of our life. There are many messed up folks in the world. A damaged psyche does no one any good. Think of the throne of God as being in your skull. That is where everything you know and experience exists and is stored and all is processed. The mind is the driving force, how we put it to use determines our fate. Conceptions are born out of the mind. A virgin birth is that which is born out of a pure, uncorrupted mind. It refers to thoughts and ideas, not popping out a baby.
What if MY definition of "Be Excellent to each other" means: All women under 60 kg should wear mini skirts or short shorts and all women over 60 kg should wear large, voluminous robes. While I believe that THAT would be truly EXCELLENT, I suspect that I'd be very unpopular if it were to mandated.

What’s actually mind-boggling is that the Original Sin doctrine goes on, even though the main purpose of Jesus being crucified was to clense us from the original sin. And yet they preach the original sin like that was still a real thing. If you’re a jew, sure, believe it and act accordingly. If you’re a Christian? Dude, your whole religion lies on the idea that the the original sin is no more.
The original sin was when Adam and Eve discovered they were naked and covered up. The vengeful God hated the thought of them knowing it was wrong to be naked as He had made them, and He threw them out of the Garden of Eden, after a number of ill disguised threats. The other sins are the sins of breaking any one of the ten commandments. Or the many thousand other commands written in the Bible.
That's not what Christians believe. Man was alienated from God through rebellion and the sin nature now dominate on man required a intermediary and that is Jesus who's death was to pay the price for man's sin and make it possible for man be restored in relation to God. The sin nature is not removed by Jesus death he just paid the penalty for that sin.

All right, I'll do my best without Science to "disprove" the existence from the God of the Bible.. God was always there, he was the first being he created everything including things in Heaven. Gabriel (Satan) was an Angel, in which God created in which created Sin. Therefore, God created sin. In which he KNEW was going to happen as he also created time, so he knew what was going to happen. So, free will is just an illusion, it may feel real but it's not, because God knows what will happen. He is also the most powerful being in the universe, yet he does not show his "love" to everyone on Earth. So, God created sin, which sends us to Hell.. which God was sent down to to save us from going down into by killing himself. FUCK this doesn't make sense.

I as an atheist do not believe in the god from the Bible, though I do not refuse the idea of a higher being that could have created the earth. Though, all of the evidence I've seen has pointed to natural causes. But, you don't need Jesus to help you in life. I am perfectly fine, and do not feel as if a "God-shaped hole" in my heart. Our Sunday school teacher would reiterate that the Jews back then were very proficient in stoning, this was their number one skill, and they were able to kill with one strike, and they would usually finish striking with a second stone just to make sure. So stoning to death was a piece of cake not work. Therefore technically it was't sin.

The original sin was when Adam and Eve discovered they were naked and covered up. The vengeful God hated the thought of them knowing it was wrong to be naked as He had made them, and He threw them out of the Garden of Eden, after a number of ill disguised threats.
The other sins are the sins of breaking any one of the ten commandments. Or the many thousand other commands written in the Bible.
That's not what Christians believe. Man was alienated from God through rebellion and the sin nature now dominate on man required a intermediary and that is Jesus who's death was to pay the price for man's sin and make it possible for man be restored in relation to God. The sin nature is not removed by Jesus death he just paid the penalty for that sin.

Without the brainwash it'll be easy to get rid of all religious believes. And it is brainwashing if we repeatedly tell our children that they are christians, they have to believe in gods and worship them. We christian babies without asking them if they even want to become Christians... and we can't ask them obviously because they are just babies. But that's exactly my point. If parents tell their children that we are all aliens from Mercury they will believe it as well as they believe in Santa Claus and everything else their parents tell them. And they have to because that's an essential part of the evolution. If young animals including young humans don't believe their parents and follow them blindly they will probably die (''don't go to the cliff'', ''don't eat that'', ''don't trust the Lion'', ''run whenever I run'' and so on).

If you read his book you'll find Dawkins knows nothing about the Bible. There are factual errors throughout his book. The audience here are already converted to atheism. Unlike Hitchens, Dawkins does not fare well in debates with Christian apologists.

It should be made illegal to expose young children to religion, just as it's illegal to give them drugs. All right, I'll do my best without Science to "disprove" the existence from the God of the Bible.. God was always there, he was the first being he created everything including things in Heaven. Gabriel (Satan) was an Angel, in which God created in which created Sin. Therefore, God created sin. In which he KNEW was going to happen as he also created time, so he knew what was going to happen. So, free will is just an illusion, it may feel real but it's not, because God knows what will happen. He is also the most powerful being in the universe, yet he does not show his "love" to everyone on Earth. So, God created sin, which sends us to Hell.. which God was sent down to to save us from going down into by killing himself. FUCK this doesn't make sense.
