The only way to deter Ford thefts is to put a switch inline with the CAN bus wire from the OBD. That's because on this model, they don't boost the key signal on these models.
They use the OBD port to turn off the alarm and then code new keys. If you hide a switch under the dash that cuts the CAN bus line to the OBD, they would have to get better access to the car to look for it which would set the alarm off for all of the time they are looking.

After watching your video I tried using aluminium foil to block the signal on my keyless entry 2016 Focus. It worked a treat from any distance including next to the windows. Only one layer of cooking foil was enough to do the trick. Thieves foiled ! (sorry about that, but I had to say it).

Great video modern technology there are always a way round it I'm from the veihcle security industry I think it might be time to fit the aftermarket imobilisers which work via touch key which first appeared in the 80s and maybe additional alarm systems to go with it I remember when cosworths were the thiefs target and fitting all sorts of devices to prevent theft a separate adr cards worked as well great trick with the tin have a good day thanks for Sharing

Wish I had of seen this video before my car was stolen. Have learned a lot about how these thieves operate now. There used to be one method where thieves could record your fob's signal and play it back from another device, but newer systems safeguard against this. The method that's very common now is simply amplifying your fob's signal in real-time.
I now use a Faraday box for my keys, have a Faraday wallet, installed the Ghost II immobilizer, and have a hidden tracker which is monitored by a security company (who immediately alert me if the car is moved without being started). I also have a wheel clamp I use when I have to go abroad for any length of time. They keyless entry/ignition system is flawed, and car dealers/manufactures should be warning people at the point of purchase.
I bought another expensive car - it'll be a cold day in hell before I let thieves dictate what car I can/can't buy.
By the way - also remember to protect your spare key!!

You can probably get into it using a block of cheese but I have a steering lock I'm hoping will continue to deter scumbags. All you need to do is find something which completely blocks the frequency used by the keyfob. The problem is thieves with good kit have the ability to boost the signal from the key, so many Faraday pouches and biscuit tin / alu foil DIY methods don't sufficiently inhibit the signal to prevent the keyless theft. You need to buy a good Faraday pouch with a high signal attenuation.
The relay attack works by having a pair of transceivers which operate on the same frequency of the car transceiver and the fob. They 'bridge' between car and key as well as wirelessly link to each other, allowing a thief to stand by the car with one unit and another to walk around a building until their unit detects the key signal. They can boost the weak keyfob signal so even hiding it inside metal boxes doesn't always work.
Some of the relay kits can also learn and impersonate the real keyfob allowing thieves to lock/unlock the car at whim. Once the immobiliser is disabled, anyone with the right tool can code a new key from the CAN port.
You're seriously recommended to physically relocate the OBD port. I've done so, it's easy, and also perhaps install a nonfunctional fake in its place which looks identical but does nothing. (I am contemplating wiring data pins to the battery...)

Hi Steve you need to make a Faraday box, this isolates all radio signals and is super cheap easy. Any of the tins and wind copper wire around the outside of the tin until the signal is blocked. Maybe line inside and outside of tin with Aluminium foil also as this boosts the blocking ability of the materials, seems like it is all down to personal experimentation as very worthwhile stopping scumbags stealing your pride and joy for a few pennies/minutes isn't it ;-)

I guess the car holds the immobiliser off once it has the signal for a length of time. Maybe worth opening and closing the door to provoke it to search for the fob signal.
Back in the day I’d hide a switch under the seat that broke the feed to the ignition coil.
The problem with any security measures you put in place means it’s more likely that the scrote has to come into your house.

UPDATE: Got my Fiesta Eco Boost back. The thieves reprogram the car via the OBD2 socket which is located behind a mini- glove box-like flap to the right of the steering. Squeeze the sides in and it folds right out. A clip on either side of the OBD socket and push it through. Push it up into the wires, or left, or right. Up to you. Lower the glove compartment (thats where the fuses are, behind) like you did by squeezing in the OBD cover and remove fuse 19. That kills the data line in the OBD. I made a sticker on my Labeller for the drivers wing mirror "OBD port moved." You cant miss it when the mirror folds in.
Bought a wheel lock too. Its reduced the odds of "drive away" theft significantly.
Keys in a small biscuit tin when not in use.
    Hope this helps.
Its about reducing odds by increasing their time at the car.

To reprogram your car they first need to get in. To get in they would've captured your fob's signal, amplified it. If they can't reprogram it, because they have your fob's frequency, can't they still just drive away with your car?

Polished the Jag and saw another from you!
The tin needs to be grounded to a good earth to make it an effective Farady cage which would block the keys radio signal. Unearthed, it will act as an antenna attenuator instead. A piece of equipment known as a frequency spectrum analyser would show, though, the various cans do attenuate, (reduce) the fob radio signal.
However, because your sitting inside the car, the signal strength is still within set limits, the Car Key radio receiver needs to take into account, for low key fob battery level. Hence the varied success of the experiment.

The car being unlocked is not the problem the problem is they are able to then start the engine keylessly and drive off. Cars have had keyless entry for 2 decades and it wasn't a problem before because the key was still need to start the engine. cars in the 2004-2009 era were the very peak of car security and thieves just couldn't get them moving so would instead find a way to steal they keys which is easier. Now they just get a computers off ebay that can be used to steal your new cars.

Some cans don't close as well as others that's why some arn't blocking the signal. Some cans start off with blocking the signal and wear out afther many open and closes.
I'd say use aluminium foil and grab a new piece every week or so it tends to wear out quite fast, atleast it's inexpensive. I use a stoplock pro + OBD relocated + aluminium foil. Then again if they really want it they can get it. But this slows them down alot.

Its usually only Opel ZaFIREa's that catch fire. A Zafira caught fire in the hi rise carpark here in Douglas,Cork,Ireland over 12 months ago and destroyed over 60 cars plus the car park.
The whole shopping centre had to close for over 12 months! The Opel Insignia also like to catch fire as well. Does that make them hot cars??

Keep an eye on the coolant and temp gauge. If the coolant gets low or the temp get high, either fix it or get rid of it for another one, I have heard after 2016 is safe however due to a redesigned cylinder head/gasket.

I simply do not like all the 'wifi' systems we now have on cars. There is nothing better than a physical key and how difficult is it to turn a key in an ignition lock? A key that folds into itself (VW vans etc) is as conveniant as a 'fob'. When I worked as a Scania fitter they had the door release in the key (you could also run a lighting check off it) but it also had a chip in the key that was encrypted to another chip in the steering column. You might be able to turn the key in the lock but the electrical system stayed dead without that chip. Spare keys had to be synchronised by the dealer. I have a Renault Laguna II that has a 'card' that releases the doors remotely but you have to physically insert the card into a slot. This releases the steering lock and turns the electrical circuits on enabling the engine start button.
Maybe we have gone too far with technology. After all if a man invented it another man can break it.
By the way that 'tin foil' is actually aluminium. Lol. And another way to recycle cans has been found ...
    Nice Vlogs mate ....

Very interesting experiment BUT for me I will never ever invest in a car where the key doesn't have to be in its ignition barrel and yes I know that it still can be hacked but at least the thieves still need the actual key to insert in the ignition. I just replaced my front door with one without the letter opening mechanism and never leave anything on the hallway table and also have an alarm and video recording covering all the windows and front and back door but my dog keep activating the sensors which is headache especially for my neighbours. It's shame that our society became so insecure on all levels.

forget all this. I had my Fiesta stolen last week. They smashed the window and did something in the car. Dont know what it was, but it was nothing to do with amplifying the signal from your house or they wouldnt need to smash the window. The police recovery garage where it ended up told me that 70% of stolen cars recently were Fiestas. All with the driver window smashed.
Takes them 20 seconds, so forget Buscuit tins and smint packets, just get a big fuck-off sreering wheel lock.
See....these twats arnt going armed with bolt cuttters and angle grinders anymore, just a centrepunch and some kind of reprogrammer. If they see a wheel lock, they move to the next one.

You pop it out of its factory position then hide it somewhere up behind the dash. You can't chop it out as it's needed to diagnose faults and do car checks etc so you will need access to it but hide it where only you know where it is.
