I can't believe it! This girl has been hiding her brilliant talents! This is a difficult song to sing and she nailed it! She can sing ANYTHING and make it her own! I'm 71 and come from the era of real talented singers, Julie Andrews, Barbara Streisand, Natalie Cole. Miss Gaga is in their league without question! I want to hear more from this young brilliant singer. If she sings pop please make sure it's a great song to show off her range and voice.
Patricia Muscarella I think there are better versions, Johnny Hartman does the best job I have heard. I will give Lady Gaga props for introducing new fans to this style of music.
Patricia Muscarella Why would Julie Andrews,Natalie Cole are became real talented singers ? Just because they sang some overly complicated jazz music ? There is tons of people who is more talented than any of old generations. By the way it's not even difficult song. There is no notes, rhythm etc.. You just need one good pianist then sing like you are in sixties movies.
Tony said she's the best singer he's ever worked with and the best singer in America . Since he's worked with the very best for decades that's a pretty good endorsement .
Yhea that may be true but the proof is in the pudding . And Gaga is all up in it she can sing anything . Like oh I don't know the sound of music live in font of millions of people and Miss Andrews waiting in the wings .
No, I liked Gaga singing pop, I don't like her jazz voice, too loud, no subtleties no finesse, just loud. Amy could sing anything, and was a fine jazz singer, IMO
"It's about somebody's life. There's a worldliness, about a person who has lived. You really have to kind of understand the story and try to keep the mood, keep the focus." not everybody can sing it, it needs true emotion and real clean voice like lady gaga! but frank couldnt sing well!
Wow! Two things amaze me. The first, Lady Gaga stepped out and owned this beautiful Strayhorn tune... The second; that there can be those who would minimize her performance here. She was emotionally connected, technically (pitch, phrasing, and power) awesome, confident, and beautiful. People, as much as I respect your right to have an opinion, if you can't relate to what she delivered, then you need to take a long look at what you value. I've heard everyone from Nat King Cole to Strayhorn himself, to Queen Lateefah (a credible version by the way) and others do this tune. Nobody comes close.
Thanks Bob, I tried but you added the finishing touch to my thoughts. I know you commented before I did didn't see yours at first. She has so many ranges in her voice and can display it in a heart beat and nail it! Heard an interview with Tony Bennett he said that this was her first love not the crazy showmanship that she does. We must start a campaign to keep her at this more fitting style that I think is her.
It actually surprised me with her version, really. Although I still think Esperanza Spalding's version was far better, just because Esperanza has an ear for tasteful phrasing and melodies. Gaga never goes out of the line with the melody, but she does a beautiful rendition of it. Definitely does it justice.
Well, I'm not a Gaga baby ("monster")...but this rendition of Lush Life is the absolute most stunning I've ever heard....the girl not only has incredible pipes, but her timing is superb and anyone who does not see her ability to interpret a song does clearly not understand her very large capacity as an incredible singer...just remarkable for her age!!! Hope she continues in this genre....even though she'll find it difficult to mix pop and jazz....her artistic interpretation in pop has been off the charts, but there is NOOOO denying Gaga's jazz vocals, timing, and interpretation are masterful.
I've just listened to about a dozen versions of this song - Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughn, Linda Ronstadt, Nat King Cole, Natalie Cole, Queen Latifah, Esperanza Spalding, Nancy Wilson - and they are all good and worth listening to but NOTHING comes close to this stunning performance by Lady Gaga. She lives the song as she sings it and imbues it with immense power and nuanced emotion. Thank you, Lady Gaga. Streisand has got nothing over you. (Did she ever sing this? ) Looking forward to seeing your concert with Tony Bennett at Radio City Music Hall in June.
Daniel Carlson Ah - another victim of rectumencephalosis - chronic head up rectum syndrome. So sad and incurable - victims prone to babble rubbish and believe they are speaking profoundly.
This is a very good, if not excellent rendition of this song, but to place it before the performances of the jazz-legends you've listed is a bit much. Should she be listed among them? No doubt about it.
This is a great version as are the others - but the best... have you heard Billy Strayhorn's version??? He lives the experience of the lyrics - he wrote them...when he was 16
This is mind blowing. I've never been a fan of Lady Gaga's genre. I had no idea she could sing so well. And this is an extremely profound and difficult song about the hopelessness of the pursuit of true love. The chord changes and modulations are not easily sung over. It seems like she really "gets" it. I am won over.
It wasn't until I saw Gaga's performance here that the realization had solidified - the song can be understood as a one number, one act musical. When a singer performs the song at its pinnacle (as we can witness here), the singer becomes more than an instrument that plays the melody of the tune, more than the vehicle in which the text is delivered, more than the actor that relays the story to the audience. Instead, they become a complete storyteller. And, when a singer is performing at the height of their artistic abilities, they display a level of artistic maturity and sincerely so deep that the audience is presented with an ambiguous showcase - how much of the story that is being told is based on real, lived experiences?
I tear up every time I listen to Gaga’s version. I thought Queen Latifah’s version on the “Living Out Loud” movie soundtrack - the first time I’d ever heard the song - and again on her Dana Owens album was perfection - and, indeed, it was, but emotionally,Gaga’s interpretation touches my very soul!
Takes your breath away. NO ONE, not even Billy himself, has ever rendered this most difficult and beautiful of songs like she did in this specific performance. I have even heard her do it live on two other occasions, and those performances didn't nail it like this performance. This is so Grammy worthy, and proves she is right up there with Streisand and Dion and Fitzgerald, etc. Gaga, you are one talented lady.
You can’t say that, it ain’t true. Esperanza Spalding hit that song beautifully and came out with a great redention! It’s good to research before one makes conclusions especially when it comes to song’
This is the most beautiful and powerful performance Gaga has ever done! Her singing is at its best and her vocal talent shines incredibly bright here. So much emotion, so much passion but also so much power and strength in her voice. She better perform this at next year's Grammys because if she does she will cement her place as one of the best contemporary singers today not only in front of the music industry but in front of the world. Then there will be no denying her talent, no matter what you think of her, if she sings this next year she will have everyone's respect.
That's what i thought but she didnt. They didn't give her the chance and i think she needed it to really show everyone that still has no clue. The world deserves to listen this rendition. Hope she does something like this at the Oscars. But this is her song, i'm very sad she couldnt perform it
How is it her song? She sings it beautifully but this is not her song, let’s get that right.. Yes she can make it her own song, but in the music archives, it remains to be Billy Strayhorns song as he composed and wrote the lyrics himself from 1933 - 1936 is how long it took him ti write that song and performed it with vocalist Kay Davis with Duke Ellington’s Orchestra for the very first time in 1948!
She getting the standing ovation from this crowd moved her to tears. Music she herself loves and has so much respect for, but outside of her comfort zone, just paying respect to this great tradition.
yes, unexpectedly our Lady Gaga is a GREAT modern vocal master, who would have thunk it? You go GRRL, you've tons of cajones!! Bravo! Move in he direction of being a figure like Streisand and such and you will have a real place in out mature cultural patheon!
J.G. Varga i thought the donna summer version was one of the weaker versions i have heard, her voice of course is fantastic but quincys production killed it for me
Richard Arroyo If Lady Gaga moves in the direction of squares such as Streisand, that'll be the end of her originality and inborn sensuousness. Streisand tackled just about any type of song during her career only to stay relevant and get some limelight. Who thinks "delicious" when listening to Streisand? Who DOESN'T think "delicious" when listening to Gaga?
it takes a lot of bravery for most singers to even attempt this song. She relishes it. fantastic vision of what Strayhorn started. My god this is good....great!
Beautiful rendition of Lush Life. I have been a fan of this song since 1990 when I first heard it sung by Natalie Cole on the Unforgettable album. Then I read about how Frank Sinatra had such a difficult time recording this song.....then essentially giving up due to frustration. This rendition by Lady G is amazing. Can't stop listening to it. A true talent beyond anyone's imagination.
Lush Life by Lady Gaga was chilling, she had total control, as the saying goes, "she made it her own." One of Billy Strayhorn's best. Nancy Wilson and Johnny Hartman also sang this song years ago. Love it! I saw the concert on PBS. Great music.
Minnie E Miller She made note of that in an interview she and Tony Bennett did promoting the album / performance. I'm kind of astounded discovering in the last week or so who she actually is and what talent she has and what integrity! Musically, artistically, and socially. She's very focused on the whole of it. Fascinating. Kind of a cultural nexus for these times.
+Coveskipper Love this new gaga. I hope she continues on this new path. She can do it, she has all the talents and I wish her the best. Please, please keep your clothes on Lady.
I knew Lady Gaga could sing. This magnificent rendition proves once and for all thst she can SING!! An incredible voice, perfect pitch and breath control. Notice i say pitch control, not singing on key. She is tuning the chords to perfection. One thing stands out and that is her masterful use of vibrato. Exactly the right amount at exactly the right time. Too many singers hit a note and warble, so the chord never gels. She posts the note perfectly, only warming it at the end.
This is A M A Z I N G!!!!!! Her voice never sounds strained, her tone is beautiful an very airy her voice has so much power and such a light and airy quality, I've know since the beginning she could sing but she outdid herself in The Sound of Music Medley and this is even more IMPRESSIVE than that was!
"Oh, yes, I was wrong again," Gaga sings in "Lush Life" - and so it must also go for those naysayers among us who doubted that an admittedly potentially disastrous match-up such as Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett singing jazz classics could have been. Instead, it's a stroke of genius - the idea, the album and now this excellently captured live performance." - Broadway.
Already has --- look up Cheek to Cheek with her and Tony Bennett --- it's just won a Grammy This track is on there and this performance is taken from the live concert they did for the album which is also out on DVD
When I tell you I've listened to just that portions of the performance countless amounts of times I'm not lying. Definitely my favorite part of the song
This is a very sad song, a song left without a happy ending... Perfect way to sing it... So much emotion. It may not be pure Jazz, or whatever else you call it, but it is mesmerizing and emotional and that is enough to captivate me.
Please stop Donna, Streisand is a good vocalist but she doesn't come close to the voice and the range that Stefani has. Don't get me wrong I'm no spring chicken myself but she is the talent of our time. Not the pop music that she does although she is the best at it she can do any type of music and nail it every time with her beautiful voice!
You mean to tell me that only 803 people like this? 59,399 folks watched this? Are you kidding me. I'm an old fart and was bias and had no interest in the over the top lady Ga Ga. Then I opened my mind and listened. One word, Beautiful!! This woman is the talent of our time. A voice that has so much range and diversity is hard to find these days. Thanks Stephanie. Just like rock and other types of music that have had their share of the same old, same old, you've brought back the good ole days. Your a natural talent. The fact that it looks easy for you tells me that. Beautiful voice and great stage presence. Thanks!
AMAZING !! a classic voice for a classic ballad, you can feel her emotion in her voice glad she made all that money with her pop music and wish her continued success with it.... but now that she has the attention and respect of all hope she can bless us with more from the GREAT AMERICAN SONG BOOK...THANK YOU LADY GA GA ...
Eugene Mueller i think its the best cover of the song its even better than aretha its a bit emotional but vocally its amazing and out of this world! there is much more lady gaga can offer with her voice!
david williams "it's a bit emotional". Well, yes. It's a truly heartbreaking song. She expresses the arc of emotions so well and with such virtuosity. I listen to this over and over as well. The song itself is sort of "through composed". Not a standard song form, but rather a poetic ballad full of emotions and lyricism.
No sabía del GRAN TALENTO JAZZISTICO de esta mujer... muchas felicidades Lady Gaga.... en serio.. perfecta voz y una excelente interpretación del maestro Nat King Cole... WOW !!!!
One of Lady Gaga's Amazing Performances. So much raw emotion. Those who enjoyed this performance should go and take a look at her version of Bang Bang by Cher. Both are awe-inspiring.
That dress looks like mercury dripping off her body. So beautiful. She transports me to another time when she sings jazz. She was made for the stage. I feel sad for those who can't see she IS the definition of theatre.
I always thought LG was just another cheap crazy pop diva! But NO! She is Brilliant!! That was stunning! She is a True Jazz singer up there with Ella and co! Lady Gaga I've seen You! You are Amazing! my religion is Jazz! I never thought I'd say this but I Love You! ❤❤❤❤
the purity of her voice is jaw dropping ,a one in million talent for sure , loved her songs with tony bennet priceless , love you lady gaga sing for as long as you want and not a minute more,
Since Lady Gaga began to be famous I already discovered her talent singing and playing the piano and dancing too but this video has surprised me even more! amazing voice!.
Lady Gaga is a thousand times more talented than Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus and all those cheap pop singers! Lady Gaga's voice is just WOW! This performance left me speechless!
Woah- I can't believe that is Lady Gaga!. Besides having the technical skills and power she has all her soul behind it which is that rare combination that makes her version of this song a truly magical experience.
I can't believe it! This girl has been hiding her brilliant talents! This is a difficult song to sing and she nailed it! She can sing ANYTHING and make it her own! Patricia Muscarella I agree! I've been lounge singing for almost 10 years now and this is one of the most difficult songs to sing.
One word...ICONIC.
Tony said she's the best singer he's ever worked with and the best singer in America . Since he's worked with the very best for decades that's a pretty good endorsement .
Steve A Dancer Tony is a gentleman I've heard him say that about too many singers. He said Amy W. was the greatest singer ever too.
Yhea that may be true but the proof is in the pudding . And Gaga is all up in it she can sing anything . Like oh I don't know the sound of music live in font of millions of people and Miss Andrews waiting in the wings .
Donna Croce Amy Winehouse was fantastic. Maybe not the greatest, but of their era, Amy and Gaga are not Brittany or Pink.
No, I liked Gaga singing pop, I don't like her jazz voice, too loud, no subtleties no finesse, just loud. Amy could sing anything, and was a fine jazz singer, IMO
Yhea but she waisted herself with drugs . She lost her voice then her life being an idiot
Uh..wow...stunning. I didn't know she had it like THAT. DAMN
My spine actually tingled... she's the real deal.
lush lif is one of the hardest songs even frank sinatra couldnt sing this properly but lady gagaaaa nailed itttttttt!
Very well said....you know a true talent!
well its considered that lush life is one of the hardest songs, and frank couldnt sing this song like lady gaga is fact and reality!
"It's about somebody's life. There's a worldliness, about a person who has lived. You really have to kind of understand the story and try to keep the mood, keep the focus." not everybody can sing it, it needs true emotion and real clean voice like lady gaga! but frank couldnt sing well!

Who would give this a thumbs down? I'm not even a fan of Lady Gaga and I'd never give this a thumbs down. Fan or not this is amazing talent.
Haters will. :)
There is a thin veil of anger and bitterness in this song and Gaga runs with it. The result is a deeply emotional rendition that blows everyone away!
She has a golden voice I can't handle it.... Is everyone being cool right now?
No. Kind of weeping. Sometimes I can't watch this unless I'm psychologically prepared for it.
I teared up at the end, especially knowing the difficulties and challenges she faced early in her career.
Outstanding. Truly outstanding.

A stunning performance of a very difficult song. Gaga's pitch is amazing.

Agreed. I'm in my mid-fifties. But now I feel the need to look back at her previous works to see what I've missed.

Fantastic performance! Incredible modern performer.
And THAT, my friends, is HOW you do that song. Perfect.
This is just very Beautiful
Absolutely STUNNING. It's great that the world finally gets to hear what an amazing vocalist she is!
I mean, this proves that Gaga is more talented than the others popstars right now.
This performance deserves a Grammy!
The absolute best version possible. Love the song but now...spectacular.
I had no idea. Man, she's an awesome singer! What a voice. Makes all her contemporaries sound sick.
Since Donna Summer I haven´t heard better version, but this was almost a very good one !
J.G. Varga i thought the donna summer version was one of the weaker versions i have heard, her voice of course is fantastic but quincys production killed it for me
I'm left ga-ga. She owns it.
Richard Arroyo
If Lady Gaga moves in the direction of squares such as Streisand, that'll be the end of her originality and inborn sensuousness. Streisand tackled just about any type of song during her career only to stay relevant and get some limelight. Who thinks "delicious" when listening to Streisand? Who DOESN'T think "delicious" when listening to Gaga?
much better in this way! so much better!
one of if not the best versions of this song
it takes a lot of bravery for most singers to even attempt this song. She relishes it. fantastic vision of what Strayhorn started. My god this is good....great!
Outstanding!! She totally nailed this brilliant song! She's right, she's always been a jazz singer.

One of the greatest Gaga performances, of which there are MANY
Lush Life by Lady Gaga was chilling, she had total control, as the saying goes, "she made it her own." One of Billy Strayhorn's best. Nancy Wilson and Johnny Hartman also sang this song years ago. Love it! I saw the concert on PBS. Great music.
There is a very human story behind the song "Lush Life." Research Billy Strayhorn's history
Minnie E Miller She made note of that in an interview she and Tony Bennett did promoting the album / performance. I would really love it if she performed this song at the Grammys. This could be her defining solo. She gives so much passion with this performance.
Stunning. In every way this is beautifully stunning. A complete triumph. Tony knew. And now so do we.
I knew Lady Gaga could sing. This magnificent rendition proves once and for all thst she can SING!! An incredible voice, perfect pitch and breath control. I was never a fan of hers, but she definitely got me to reconsider. It is a wonderful performance. Glad she keeps these classics alive also.
One day she will be a legend... Remember this
Stelios Monster she is already a legend but not all admitts it cause she became legend in few years, she is miracle!
The world isn't ready for this yet.
OMG. Incredible. I hope she comes out with a jazz album.
Already has --- look up Cheek to Cheek with her and Tony Bennett --- it's just won a Grammy

I get chills from the resonance of her voice at 1:46 -1.51!! Anybody else?
Right there with you.... the tone on "for me" is totally in the pocket vocally. Really excellent!
Yeahh and she nails that eeh vowel at all live performances. It's a powerful sound, beautiful round sound.
When I tell you I've listened to just that portions of the performance countless amounts of times I'm not lying. Definitely my favorite part of the song

damn..she really nailed the second half of the song emotionally...gave me full body chills!
well done Gaga darling well done!,now this is sooooooo chique!
what a mother fucking voice this lovely lady has....man people need to see this!

Absolutely stunning.

She's a legend and a TRUE artist/vocalist.
Outstanding
oh my god, best version of this songggggg! im shockeddddd! her voice is amaziiiiiiing and best in the world!
That was absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!! I mean, I have chills and tears, SO BEAUTIFUL!!!
Angela Jordan I have to admit one of my eyes was leaking a bit toward the end.
I’ve worshipped this rendition for a long time. Absolutely IMPRESSIVE rendition of this song.
Thank you!
Magnificent! What a voice and emotion, love
AMAZING !! a classic voice for a classic ballad, you can feel her emotion in her voice
glad she made all that money with her pop music and wish her continued success with it.... but now that she has the attention and respect of all hope she can bless us with more from the GREAT AMERICAN SONG BOOK...THANK YOU LADY GA GA ...
Here we have the talent. And I think she's going to be around for some time.
This is simply astounding! Lady Gaga is truly a magnificent singer and performer!
Lady Gaga is a brilliant, next-level artist who rarely is mentioned in todays' Philistine culture.
Oh my God, I had no idea Lady Gaga was so fantastic! What a great interpretation of this Strayhorn classic!
What a superb singer, never listened to lady gaga until this collaboration, thanks for posting.
No sabía del GRAN TALENTO JAZZISTICO de esta mujer... muchas felicidades Lady Gaga.... en serio.. perfecta voz y una excelente interpretación del maestro Nat King Cole... WOW !!!!
This song gives me goosebumps and tears.
there isn't a voice out there today that compares.
i just cant get enough, her voice is angelic so airy and smooth
I bet ya Dad is proud. Perfection!
This voice, this music.. rescue me from madness.
One of Lady Gaga's Amazing Performances. So much raw emotion. Those who enjoyed this performance should go and take a look at her version of Bang Bang by Cher. Both are awe-inspiring.
Worth a re-watch OoMASEoO ^u^
That dress looks like mercury dripping off her body. So beautiful. She transports me to another time when she sings jazz. She was made for the stage. I feel sad for those who can't see she IS the definition of theatre.
Are you doing anything special for the livestream of the artRave tomorrow?
OoMASEoO Probably my favorite performance of her rendition of Lush life. No I'm not. Wait?!? Its tomorrow? :O
Yesss!! It's in like 24 hrs! :D :D
A 70's Goddess, voice of an angel, glam, chic, fab, who else but LADY Gaga?
what a lady what a voice!!! bravo
The best performance of her career !!!! In my opinion
that is a heavy performance of a tune whose melody and lyric is filled with pain and it clearly resonates with her. wow.
it doesn't get any better than this
deeply profound, Gaga!
This was fantastic! I had no clue that Lady Gaga can sing this way. She might as well be a jazz singer. Can’t believe it
I always thought LG was just another cheap crazy pop diva! But NO! She is Brilliant!! That was stunning! She is a True Jazz singer up there with Ella and co! Lady Gaga I've seen You! You are Amazing! my religion is Jazz! I never thought I'd say this but I Love You! ❤❤❤❤

THIS IS THE MOST INCREDIBLE MIX OF PERFORMANCE AND SHINING IVE EVER SEEN IN AN ARTIST AND THE VOCALS ARE JUST AMAZING TOTALLY ASTONISHING INCREDIBLE
Fabulous performance. 👍♥♥♥I am very excited and impressed by her interpretation and her vocal possibilities
Lady Gaga is a thousand times more talented than Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus and all those cheap pop singers! Lady Gaga's voice is just WOW! This performance left me speechless!
Please stop mentioning these clowns of music industry (K.P. and M.C.)! By doing so you just promote their lack of talent and vast emptiness.
Miley Cyrus is an extremely solid country singer though
unbelievably good. Difficult piece of music written by a 17 yr old with a great imagination. Bravo Lady Gaga
Miley is extremely good. Clean your ears and listen to her voice and songs without judgement.
Woah- I can't believe that is Lady Gaga!. Besides having the technical skills and power she has all her soul behind it which is that rare combination that makes her version of this song a truly magical experience.
The highlight of the evening.
Wow! My son sent me Ella's version and Lady Gagas version popped up. I didn't realize her voice is so rich.
