All three Red-tailed Hawk chicks have hatched! Get an amazing look at the third chick "I3" while it hatches from the egg after Big Red raises up for a feeding. As the hatchling works its way out of the shell, Big Red offers a bird foot to the nestlings as they jockey for the best position to get a bite. Good luck to Big Red, Arthur, and their chicks as they transition into the nestling period!

A Red-tailed Hawk pair has been nesting above Cornell University’s athletic fields since at least the 2012, making use of two different light towers for their nest sites. In 2012 and 2015, they used a tower near Fernow Hall, and in 2013, 2014, and 2016, they used the tower nearest Weill Hall. We installed cameras at both of these sites to get a better look at the intimate behavior of these well-known birds as they raise their young amid the bustle of a busy campus.

6:14 did anyone else see the first hatchling poop
It's now 9:00pm EST, Sunday the 5th of May, and I just tuned into the live cam, backed it up a bit, and am shocked to see that it looks like I3 has been pecked to death. It's a bloody mess, and no other raptor has taken the body. Did anyone witness what happened? Thanks ahead.
Whew! It's the next morning and I see that all is well. I still can't make out what that bloody-looking object next to the babies is, though.

If there is constant and persistent biting from the older one, usually the little chicks don't get to live. Also all chick mothers reaction to this is different, some of them sees this and stops feeding and sits on them hence the biting stops. I fear in this case the older one is very aggressive. These are from my previous observation. I hope I get this wrong. Very very hard to watch.
