I would agree that the Germanium Tumnus Deluxe is a little more open and throaty. I think it has a bit more warmth and depth, as well. To my ears, my Germanium Tumnus has bit more bite and clarity compared to the Deluxe version.
It sounds particularly good with humbuckers too. I spent some time last night playing my LP and it sounded great. Definitely something going on in the low mids too that is different than the standard Tumnus. Really loving this pedal!
Thanks for the comment Michael. Yeah I got to spend some time with it last night really playing with the controls. The extra eq (compared to the mini) adds a lot of flexibility as does the gain switch which seems to not only add a bit of gain but also thickens the sound a bit. Plus the overall character of the pedal due to the germanium diodes is just different than the silicon version.
I really like it. Its lower output even on the hot setting than my original Tumnus. The original is very clear and powerful, the new one has a lot of harmonics underneath the notes. Both together ia great.
Yeah it's definitely lower output. Brian Wampler said he tweaked the volume/level control to give it more range so that it could be run higher to achieve the same level as the original when it's set lower. Cool pedal!
Great review thank you! The original sounds more open and less compressed. Has less low end than the GE. The GE is tighter with more mids and faster clipping. The character of the clipping is the same on both. I guess it depends how you use it and what you go for. Since I stack pedals a lot and use always on compression, I think it original suits that application more. Cosmetically,I have to give it to the GE.
I somehow got one of these by learning from my first attempt at getting one. It really is a great overdrive. Does it sound like the original circuit, no idea, but it sound great and different from my gold Tumnus. I was going to give my gold one away, then I stacked them on accident. What?
@@hoganshideout nice one hopefully it will ship soon but I have a while to wait with being in the UK. Looking forward to pairing it with the original deluxe for some stacking. Thanks for making the video it sounds great
Nice video...they came back into stock last night and I grabbed one. Then decided to buy another and sell it on Reverb, thinking I was all smart and sh*t... this morning they promptly canceled my second order... I guess you can just order one?
Thanks Terry. Yeah people were only supposed to get one so I guess they are trying to enforce that. Interesting that they came back into stock -- maybe some cancelled orders.
Nice pedal. Sounds a little more open and throaty. I like it even more than the small germanium Tumnis that I currently have.
It's very cool. It definitely has a more throaty -- less smooth -- sound that I like!

Definitely a difference. I was lucky enough to get one of the Ge deluxe Tumnus and really like it.

@@hoganshideout I like the mids control option with my tweed deluxe because it such a middy amp.
@@michaelr.5091 My next amp purchase is going to be something with a 5e3 circuit.

Nice to see you back.
Thanks man!
Wow huge difference. I love the Tumnus but it's a little brash. Harder treble clipping. The germanium sounds so smooth.
Yeah it sounds great!

Really wanted one, couldn't swing the $ at the moment
Got mine yesterday still haven't even opened it
Much more collectible that way...
Damn you guys got yours already. Mine is still sitting at processing and not shipped yet 😞
I managed to get my order in Wednesday fairly early in the day so I was lucky.
