    Thank you! I'm autistic and have spent all year worrying about having to work in person with a mask on. I'm not sure this is going to work all day at my job but after a half hour of wearing it I'm not crying, so my hopes are up! To make mine fit I had to sew down the N so it almost didn't overhang the edge at all. I have a big face and tall nose. The mask doesn't touch the front or nostril area of my nose (only the top) and doesn't touch my mouth at all. Thank you!!
    Also great job camera operator! You're awesome
    I've made a bunch of these now... After the first one i wanted the nose triangle just a little higher up, so i started experimenting with angles, folds, seam allowances and sizes... The best one I've tried (for my face only of course) has been the original from this video but with two tacks about 3/8"? below the top horizontal seam (like in line with my pupils) to hold the top edge higher up on my face. I tried tacking that horizontal seam just once at my nose, and also tried just using a 1/2"-ish seam allowance all the way across, but those changes put pressure on my nose. I noticed if I changed any size or angle then I'd also have to start changing other parts (like adjusting the N angles or adding darts on the cheeks) which got out of hand.
    Oh I also sew in the elastic first before sewing the folds down because i kept getting so focused on the folds that I'd forget to put the elastic in at all.
    Next thing I'm going to try is sandwiching in a little rectangle of the pretty fabric at the top for a removable nose wire. I have kind of cruddy wires that are wide and can torque, so I've already ruined one by bending and twisting it too far in my pocket, and I can't take it out! I think the thin wire shown in the vid is better for a wire that isn't removable. Gonna buy some later. Thanks again!! I've gone to work many hours now and I think I'm going to make it. I hope!

    Excellent tutorial. I love that you go slow and explain why you do each step. I’m going to make this mask tomorrow if I can figure out how to make the straps so they hang around my neck.
    Edit: I made this and ended up putting two loops on the lower part of the mask and a 20” tie on the top. Ran the tie through the loops and around my neck and tied it. This is how I’ve made other masks and that works for me so I can easily pull the mask off and let it hang around my neck when I come out of stores. The mask fits really well and it’s comfortable and for the few minutes I had it on, no glass fogging, Tomorrow I’ll be wearing it for prob 6 hours so that’ll be the tell tale sign.
    Been wearing this mask for the past month and it is the best mask non-fog I’ve come across so far. I love it!! Making more now.

      That wounds like a great idea. I have had a hard time making masks for my husband because he has a big head and because he has flabby ears. Omg. You were wrong about this mask as “maybe not the easiest to make”. I’ve made 10 different masks so far. From easy to hard to frustrating. I will say THIS IS THE EASIEST!😊😊. Hubby has a long face, not just head to chin but also ear to nose. So many masks weren’t working for him. The fit of this is perfect. Although I didn’t have the beads to do adjustable elastic (getting them tonight), the actual mask fit him well. So with the adjustable elastic it’ll be great. The same mask fits him, my adult daughter and myself! The only tweak I made was at each side I made a very small dart bc I feel more comfortable with it resting right against my face. I’ve been using coated floral wire bc I had it. I cut 12 inch pieces, fold twice to make it 4” long, twist it to be sure the ends are tucked. Works well. I like the commenter who uses the large coated paper clips, good idea. Bc Thanks so much for this EASY mask!! So happy I found this instructional! Thanks so much! I will also be ordering that adorable mini iron from Walmart 😊. Be well and stay safe everyone.

    • @Adelphine
      @Adelphine 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You mentioned making a little side dart. I also don't like that little gap. The only other masks that do snug the face is the ones where the elastic is pulled through the sides then sewed the ends together. Oh what a pain that is with narrow elastic!

      So how did it go?

    • @carold8345
      @carold8345 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@dcwatashi By the sixth one I made, I was down to half an hour for each mask, start to finish. I did make them three ply. I wore one of the masks to a meeting where I spoke for over an hour, and it was very comfortable. I used an ear saver that I made with a piece of elastic and velcro. I loop the ear saver through the ear loops, close it with velcro that I sewed on each end. I then put one part of the saver behind my head, and the other part on top of my head. I also changed the final stitching. Instead of making a line down the mask to stitch the sides that make the curve, I sew the N shape on the top, disconnect and then sew the N on the bottom. This is much easier for me, and with my limited sewing skills it looks neater. I did make a child size by using the smaller side of the rectangle as the top of the mask. It fit an elementary child perfectly. It's a keeper for me. I hope this helps.

    Great mask and very clear directions. Great teacher!! (I know; I taught for 30+ years). We sing in our church choir. A number of us wear glasses. This is the best mask pattern I have found that 1) keeps glasses from fogging and 2) has plenty of room for singing. Great job!! Appreciate all the clear directions and links to sources. I made one addition: I cut a piece of iron-on interfacing (10" wide and about 7" deep) and attach starting at the top inside of lining fabric. This extra layer helps make the inside of the mask a little firmer and away from mouth, but not needed so much under the chin. The extra stitching across when sewing in elastic holds the interfacing even better in place). ;-)

    Thank you so much for doing this tutorial. I finally found someone who can explain in slow detail how to make this particular mask version and who uses inches as their means of measurement. Tomorrow I return to work after 11 days of quarantine from recovering from Strep and COVID. I am making a few of these as I speak, so that I can have a better mask version to wear to work. Thank you!

    I have made many masks from several patterns and this is the best. I have had problems doing cardio at the gym, and this mask made it a lot easier to breathe. It was a little intricate to make, but the excellent video made it doable. Thanks for a great design and a very instructional video. I'll be making more of them tomorrow.

    Great description- clear and detailed, without the distraction of useless hand waving, when the fit was displayed I question that the top extension is longer that it should be for a good fit for this lady.

The ear elastics with the pony beads is a fantastic idea. I love the fit of the mask. This project has made me feel ready to move onto my next sewing project. Thanks!!!

    Thank you for such great instructions. While sewing the top corners, I left a 1/2" opening along the length of the fabric. When turned right side out to sew nose wire channel, there will be an opening to insert & remove the nose wire. (I found after a few washes the wire sometimes breaks in half so I prefer to remove it before washing.) Again, thank you for this 3D face mask tutorial.

    I think this might be the simplest method of this type of mask. I also liked the explanation of the use of 2 pony beads and how to get them on the cord. I actually ordered some pre-loaded cords with an adjuster bead from Amazon (smaller, oval adjusters).

    Well I have to slightly amend my first comment to say this is indeed the BEST mask! After making the first one, I wore only it, then made several for friends and another 2 for myself. I still add a filter Halyard fabric layer for those not vaccinated, but not for mine; they are SO comfortable!
