Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays everyone! Thank you for your support and kind words over the last year or so as I've been making these videos. If you don't know, I have a sample pack called DRUMVILLE. I put it together in the first lockdown a couple of years ago. Before I started doing any of this TH-cam nonsense. It's loads of one-shots taken from vintage drum machines that passed through my studio over the years, processed aggressively through all of my hardware - all fun and exciting sounding. It's been used by lots of friends on some pretty big records across all sorts of genres of music. It is ACTUALLY good and not just some crap product I'm using to try and squeeze a few extra quid out of TH-cam. You won't find any cringey t-shirts, hoodies, mugs or MIDI chord packs here. It's usually £20, but I've dropped it down to £5 for Black Friday, although I will be leaving it at this price for a good while. If you'd like to buy a copy, it would be much appreciated and contribute a little towards the time and effort it makes to create this "content". Not that any of you owe me anything at all. But it is good, and useful. Promise. Anyway, link below! Cheers, Benni. PS - give the promo video a watch too if you're not sold (on this channel somewhere, and on link below) roadhouserecording.com/drumville/vol-1
Came for the SSL12, stayed because of the pool, this was hilarious mate! I was waiting for a bigger brother of it's SSL2(+) and now its finally here! I'm not sure if this is the one for my SSL SiX, witch has de benefit of the DB25 IO
good content ----- water noise was distracting ------ I like my SSL12 --- must have taken you three time as long to record the video that way ------- always enjoy your videos because they are so well organized and efficient delivery of info
Hahaha nope this was by fair the easiest video to make! Obviously the water noise is distracting, but can’t film in a hot tub without that and that was all part of the Christmas fun 😂
@@DRUMVILLE I take it back. My intent was to do some tubside jams. If it can't survive a bath or several minutes dunked in pure liquid chlorine then what even is the point. I want to pass this thing on to my inheritors. And by my inheritors I mean my sister's dog.
Since there is no monitor-mix knob anymore, how do you exactly blend the mix with a new vocal track that you are recording? What exact feature on the 360 mixer does this?
If you wanted to monitor directly, pre-DAW like you would with the monitor mix knob on SSL 2, you would have the input track un-muted in 360, then in your DAW mute the track you are recording to and viola, you are monitoring pre-DAW. You can then adjust the level with the fader in 360. See 4:53 in this video where I show exactly this, just in reverse where you monitor through your DAW by muting channels in 360.
your super funny bro oh my God how did i just find you i should have found you 10yeas ago for my new gear review am going to tell the world. May Christ Bless you man.
It is indeed a 32 bit converter - at least that’s what the manual I’ve been given says. I had absolutely no idea how much this would, am quite surprised it’s not at £100+ more!
@@DRUMVILLE Man, 32 bit converters can be clipped so hard with little or no distortion. You can record massively loud sounds with either a super low or high frequency, e.g. huge analogue kicks and bass and big poly synth chords, and make them super loud and clear, especially at 96khz or higher. I'm stunned at the price. Only a few A/D units use 32 bit chips, and they are way more expensive. Well over £1k. If you got one, I'd be slamming it. Just need a Pulsar-23 and a Mini Moog.
@@RJ1J oh awesome. you sound like a big synth guy. Ignore the fact you are selling most of your synths - would you find the CV coupled outputs on SSL 12 useful? It's not really something I've ever dabbled with. Not trying to sell you on it haha, just curious.
There’s no way of doing that natively, as an officially supported feature per se, but if you use macOS you can quite easily chain multiple audio interfaces together as aggregate devices via the Audio Midi Setup App

@@nafawi7965 yeah, as is the case with almost all professional level interfaces, cues are set up in the software mixer. you get far greater control than a simple knob on the front of the unit.
I would’ve thought the comparison would be more: Audient iD44 VS SSL 12. No idea about the EVO stuff, I have never used it. Audient, generally speaking I have good experiences with. I have their ASP880 which is just… fine. 8 extra preamps that are all super clean. Nothing to get too excited about tbh. Their interfaces my experience is a little sour. I used to have an iD4 and iD14. One had to get repaired twice and I kind of remember the software just not being great. This was years ago and not the current versions of those products though so I wouldn’t want to besmirch their current product based on that. So I dunno dude, you’ll have to make your own mind up!

There should never be another SSL hardware release without an accompanying video from Mr Dumville.
Thank you, I will try my best! For the most part though, it will only be the products I am involved with at the alpha / testing phase!

This is high praise indeed!

The SSL website says it has a 32bit AD/DA converter. Is that correct? If so, that is an amazing price. Thomman says it's 24bit though.

Can you make a comparison of SNR between the ssl2 and ssl 12? How much advantage is the 32bit recording option?
Well it’s 8 better surely? Nah I dunno, I’ve never used the SSL 2 and I don’t think they’ll be sending me another one after tubgate

Hello. No it does not, the SSL 2 interfaces don’t have the 360 functionality - they are cheaper, more straight forward devices.
