You're too modest Scout. You didn't "get lucky" that the player base exploded around that time. You *helped* create that growing player base. Your content is what made me aware of the scene back then. I'm not going to say you're single handedly responsible, or anything. But you've definitely had a hand in shaping the scene as it exists now. Thank you
The world championships explained video currently sits at 720k views. That video alone is a huge factor for the popularity of classic tetris. As an old fart, I was already following classic tetris at the time, which only made me more aware of how much impact it had on the community. Of course, Scout wasn't the only factor, but definitely a big one.
Good observation and well said. This is the only Tetris channel, well only Tetris anything, I follow. It's one of few channels I have notifications on, here on youtube.
To put Sidnev's transition score record into context: the highest possible transition score (not counting points by holding Down) is 754360 (32 Tetrises at Level 18 worth 22800 each, 1 Single at Level 19 worth 760, 1 Tetris at 129 lines which is scored as being at Level 19 for 24000). To get that high a score needs 31 out of a possible 33 Tetrises, which is an intense level of stacking consistency (and a measure of luck) needed to pull off.
Sad I missed the last month of my hosted events. That was when my mental health was at its worst. However, it's good to know that of each era, I did the second best job, so I feel a little less bad about it now. Thanks for the video. This was a fantastic watch, and you are an absolute blessing to the classic Tetris community. Thank you, scoutface! :D
Thank you again for starting all of this! One thing I was struck with when going through the whole archive in reverse was how much production value and effort was clearly put into the tournament from the very beginning. And it is really cool that thanks to you we have a whole streak of everything preserved from all the very first months, allows for some very interesting comparisons throughout time. Some videos scripts marfram has outlined have found some fascinating statistical games that happened in your era!
Nothing to be sad about, your contribution was immsense!! You helped get the monthlies going, that allowed extremely useful statpoints to exist in the first place, and be collated. This whole endeavor would have been a lot more shallow without your efforts and input. Hope you're in a better place now :)
truly a colossal effort on all fronts, i'm so excited to see this all come together, and i'm equally excited to see what we'll discover from here. also really appreciate the marfram shoutouts, he is a super cool guy and the work he does usually flies under the radar.
I don't mean to be hyperbolic but I think this might be my favorite tetris video ever. I felt emotional during the recap of vods lost, and then the stats blew me away. I'm so glad you took the helm on this and Marfram came to help. I hope you guys can incorporate all the other tetris games out there one day!
Archivists are some of the most admirable people in the world. So much of what we know about history is thanks to a few people deciding to preserve seemingly unimportant information. Huge respect to everyone involved in this project.
Literally sat down to watch this and just realized it had been uploaded a minute ago! Great job on the database, data collection is super interesting. Honestly, your videos is what keeps me coming back to tetris.
This video was an absolute joy to watch. I cannot comprehend the amount of hours you put in into making this a reality is truly incredible. I could also just feel the passion you brought just by the way you spoke. This might just be my favorite video of you. Even over your expierence at ctwc 2018, 2019, the ctwc explained… despite the nostalgia and how those projects were also just top tier, this video just felt on another level. Absolutely stunning work, Scout.
Man I am so grateful for you lol. I discovered NES Tetris because of your CTWC explained video, and I have been part of this amazing community for almost 4 years now. This is by far the most involved in an online community, and I absolutely love it. And the fact that you keep contributing to and improving it just makes me smile.
Easily my favorite video that you've ever posted. I knew the database took a lot of work, but I never realized how much it seriously took. You, Marfram, Hydrant, and everyone else involved KILLED IT. This community is lucky to have such dedicated people like y'all in it.
Scout has finally finished his Tetris Magnum Opus! Congrats and good on you to give some much insight on not only the scores achieved, but the people who helped make these histories happen behind the scenes. (Also, when "We're Finally Landing" by Home played...I popped so hard! Horray for Royalty Free Music...Vandy is smiling somewhere.)
That needle drop of "Home" right at the end hit me solidly in the feels. Brilliant video, the first one I've watched on your channel ever thanks to the algorithm. This was amazing, well done!
Utterly amazed at all the work put into the database and presenting some of it in this video. Thanks for all your dedication to archiving all the CTM stats Scout, Marfram, and everyone else who contributed!
As someone who likes watching Classic Tetris and occasionally play it, thanks so much for your hard work, your videos are what got me started playing it.
What can I say that hasn’t been said? Scout is 100% the MVP Goat of Tetris history. The amount of time and effort you’ve willingly put into documenting events, recapping notable moments and now archiving just ridiculous amounts of data is straight up inspiring! I wouldn’t have gotten into this little niche if not for stumbling upon one of your videos, and I know tons of others can say the same. What can I say that hasn’t been said? Just…. Thanks dude 🙏
Hey scout, I just wanted to mention that this video was absolutely amazing to watch, every single second of the video is incredible and has some information about the game or the community. It’s an absolute pleasure to be a member of this beautiful game/community that is tetris. Wish you all the very best and lots of love from a random guy from India! ❤
This is an insanely cool project! Also super happy to hear that you plan on making more regular videos, as a spectator they are my favorite way of keeping up with exciting things happening in NES Tetris!
Absolutely fantastic piece, a real treasure. And welcome aboard, Marfram! I'm getting in on the Patreon for sure in order to support what is easily one of the single greatest stalwarts of digital competition and commentary.
This is amazing and i find it incredibly charming that the passion to create sometimes spirals into something as big as this, you sure weren't the first to record history and i hope you won't be the last, but the fact that you did it will forever live on, as will the Tetris community due to your efforts.
This is truly a labor of love and it's really appreciated to you and the entire team for putting this all together. Congratulations on seeing your passion come to fruition. Keep up the great work!
Subscribed to patreon. I think my favorite video of yours was the development of the pace stat (still wish that could get wider implementation) cause of its focus on how to contextualize just how incredible these players are. The effort you’ve done here though certainly merits support. Excited you’re expanding your team and looking forward to what’s in store
We still need to evolve it into a reference covering everything possible. NTSC, PAL, DAS-limited events and more... I have the PAL Part of the Match database (sadly only scores...). CTWC DAS (both Events) are also possible, as both were recorded (I confirm as head ref of these)...
I found classic tetris through scout, and I think lots of other people did too. Give yourself some credit, man. You helped MAKE this community as big as it is now. You weren’t lucky. You earned this. You’ve clearly put in the effort to make great content, and honestly, you deserve to be spotlighted for it. Nobody just creates a full statistics database for a video, this is something you do because you have passion for it, whether you realize it or not. Thanks for making so much great stuff for us, and for helping me find such a cool community. I’m truly thankful.
I've been lurking in the tetris scene for years now, watching tetris championships and your videos off and on despite having never played classic tetris myself. This project is simply incredible, taking me through the years when I first started watching, the advent of rolling, and the peak of modern skill. I never truly appreciated the incredible power of statistics until now. Thanks for your work, as well as everyone else who worked on this awesome project!!
Your very best video to date by a long margin. And you already had some amazing ones. Creating something new and meaningful for the community, expanding your crew by hiring someone that helped you, making an amazing docummentary about the history of tetris archiving, shedding some light to the unsung heroes of nes tetris, expanding the community to youtube viewers; the list just goes on and on. You are, at least in my opinion, one of the most impressive tetris players of all time, in the terms of spreading love, good sportmanship and sheer passion for this game. Just like Jonas. Thank you
Easily the best NES tetris video I've ever seen, but also one of the best videos I've seen in general. I applaud all the effort that went into this data collection project.
Really exciting to see this project. I have loved GameBoy Tetris for a long time but was intimidated by the NES specific elements of the classic competitive scene EG overcoming autoshift delay. Having this data can make it easier for us to understand how the world's top players interact with more of the design choices that make up a specific version of Tetris, an exciting thought for me.
Scout, I've been "following" the scene for a number of years, but it's been primarily through your videos and some WR videos posted here and there from the players themselves. Occasionally I'll catch a live match or two, but usually it's a struggle to keep my attention. The amount of work you specifically have put in to grow the community and all that you've given back is absolutely enormous and frankly, if you're not already considered one, you should be considered a classic Tetris legend for it. You've put out such an impressive log of entertaining content with so much effort that you should be enormously proud of the work you've done. You're honestly a huge player in the community and the reason many people such as myself follow it at all. Now that this database is available (and I love statistics to no end) I don't know what much more I can say than "thank you" to you and the amazing team you've assembled to make it a reality.
this is absolutely amazing. one of the craziest things i’ve ever come out of any community, especially one as comparably niche to BASEBALL as tetris! i’m studying computer science + statistics in college right now, and if i ever get free reign of what database i can use for a project i will absolutely be using this. thank you Scout and every other community member who poured so much work into this project, and while i’ve always just watched from the sidelines i’m so proud of this community.
I literally been watching this since the first minute it went live, congrats bro this is huge, holy crap this is massive... your effort and time has not been wasted.
This is simply phenomenal. The amount of work and effort into every aspect. And then also making the data freely available for analysis. Some notes: 1. The best player ever is a brown leather jacket. 2. Vid Part 8.. I hear you (summoning salt) music , on game records ;) 3. I'll never not love, and mention how awesome it is that a continued on game is called a Mullen. 4. Want to see the scatter plot with color overlay broken down by year/era, and also by play style DAS/Tap/Roll. Well done Scout!!
Hey, longtime watcher and tetris player since the beginning. And also a professor of epidemiology / public health stats. And I think you and I have played a few times on Tetris Effect. :) Every consider R or R Shiny, or have others in the community into stats and data work? You, Marfan, etc. might enjoy it! Learning a statistical programming language (R, Stata, SAS, whatever) with a passion dataset is a great way to do that. But yeah, this is stellar work. So glad you're still fed by the community and feeding it in return with these awesome videos and data journalism. Very cool. Best wishes!
This might just be one of the most important tools developed in the history of the scene, thank you so much for the work you do in this community gamescout
Honestly, freaking impressed man. I remember your very early videos and it's so awesome to see that you've now made a huge and eternal contribution to the scene you love. Cheers.
A few months ago, I decided to completely leave everything from Tetris. The scene, the game, and everything, because my fuel was drained and my love for the game had disappeared. Your video gave me hope that I can love Tetris again. In fact, I have seen all the dedication a bunch of passionate people can put into this game, just like how I was dedicated to the PAL scene not so long ago. And it gave me chills. I hope I can find the will to take a controller again and just enjoy the game from my own hands. Seemed hopeless until now. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for igniting the spark again.
I don't really ever comment but this was a suuuper well done video and an absolute gem of a project! I work in data engineering / reporting myself and seeing the process of going from nothing to what you have built is just inspiring
I can't believe how awesome this video, and the effort behind it is. What an amazing effort! I especially love how you keep everything accessible and don't make assumptions about the viewers knowledge and explain things simply. Thank you.
Man I never thought a video over 30 minutes talking about data would be this interesting but that flew by like a breeze! Very well put together as always! Thank you for all your hard work and everyone else's hard work in the classic Tetris community!
Congratulations Scout! As a self-confessed ‘data-nerd’ I love good analytics… and that CTM spreadsheet puts a _BIG_ smile on my face! (love the ‘Head-to-Head’ page btw.... Marfram, you rock! 👍) I salute every single person who contributed to this archive & analysis… you’re all legends! Data collection & preservation is an unsung role… one of those jobs that everyone agrees is valuable, but hopes that someone _else_ will actually do it. It’s incredibly time-consuming & unglamorous… but the insights you can get from a rich data set are incredibly valuable. You should all be very proud! 👏
This is amazing! You can really hear the passion in your voice. This video, and in general this channel, is a true labor of love. It’s phenomenal how you’ve made data and statistics so interesting because of the story you’ve weaved into it. Amazing work to everyone who worked on this project! The history and emotional context make this shine. I especially liked how you brought in your personal experiences with your attachment to baseball and Retro Sheets. I binge watched the 2017-19 CTWC when the TH-cam algorithm recommended it to me long ago, but have only recently gotten back to watching Classic Tetris again with the help of your videos. Thank you for all that you do. You’ve become a pillar of this community. I’m excited for the upcoming 2023 CTWC, seeing the competitive field expand, and your channel’s increased success. TL;DR: Great video! Appreciate everyone’s work that went into the DB. And thank you Scout for getting me back into Classic Tetris as a spectator. ❤
Great video. Love the references to major sports in the beginning as I think it helps put a broader context into perspective for those who don't play Tetris, or understand the competitive scene. It's also very inspiring to see how low median scores were just a few years ago. Practice makes perfect. I hope to get a maxout one day.
Congrats GameScout, Marfram and the Tetris community. This is awesome. I think Vandy might have known this was coming out because he talked about how great it would be to have high quality Tetris statistics pages in the recent PixelAndy v Sidnev match starting at 4:40 in that youtube. Maybe he didn’t know though because he said he hoped something like your project would come out in the next 12 months.
what a wonderful video and truly inspiring too. the stats are mindblowing but it’s also just cool to see your personal journey of being a fan of baseball stats to now collecting stats for classic tetris. it’s truly inspiring and it makes me want to become so much more involved in the community, which is really one of the best communities I’ve been in
This is genuinely superb in terms of storytelling, the importance of archival work, and magic and intrigue one can find in statistics. Wow. Scout, you continue to be THE window into the pro classic Tetris community for so many people. And the best part? You also provide the door. Your humbleness is kind, and so appreciated. But I and many others are NOT AT ALL surprised when new high ranking players say they got into it BECAUSE of you and your work. You are an inspiration. Genuinely. GENUINELY. Thank you. Take care of yourself. I think this community will give to take care of you back.
This is amazing! As a casual viewer who pops in time to time, it's always interesting to see how various scenes and games evolve and grow over time. This is a giant milestone and excited to see how it continues climbing.
I remember watching those Koryan vs Joseph games a few years back, I really hope for both of them to make strong comebacks with rolling, and for Koryan to win a CTWC. Fantastic video as always
What a video! You might not read this comment but in case, this video is an inspiration to me as I try to do this type of retro database creation over a racing game's individual maps world record history. The result of the sheet you guys have made is really insane!
I feel like we’ve reached a new era of aGameScout and I can’t wait to see what’s next! I started following Classic Tetris because of your videos. Thank you for your passion towards this game and sharing the love with others 🎉
I think the best part about this video is the fact that when putting down the thing for how much of each month was archived, it uses tetris sound effects, like the top out sound for when nothing was saved or the piece moving sound for weeks that were archived. :D
Wow. This is amazing! Such long working hours for the data, but so worth it! I hope because of this video there might be some VODs saved in someones HD found :)
WOW!!! iam not into tetris at all but i work in science field and this crazy good amount of data-work is simply amazing. my greatest respect for aGameScout, all involved people and the whole community - its over 9000 ;) great video and great result as database! first video i watched here, instant subscription. looking forward to see more. thanks a lot. i wish you the best
❤❤❤❤ Scout you are fantastic and I hope this feels worth every piece of effort you put in! Excited for the next chapter of this channel with marfram helping!
This is so incredible. I don't have words to explain how cool this project is. I've been working with statistics a lot for my Master's thesis and know how unwieldy it is to work with datasets that have tens of thousands of points. There is no greater feeling than completing the analysis and seeing something new that we never would have seen without grinding hundreds of hours to organize all the data!
it's been an honor and a privilege to know you and watch your evolution as a documentarian and crucial onboarding for so many into this community. Outstanding work on this and many other endeavors. Can't wait to see what's next as you expand.
The NES Tetris scene is so lucky to have you guys! So much passion and hard work. Thank you for this amazing database!! It gets me so pumped for the CTWC
Aw man, buffing up that first spreadsheet you made would have been RIGHT up my alley. Glad you found help some decent folk! The stats you've pooled together are so interesting. That scatter graphs tells stories!
As someone who has not been able to keep up with all of the new changes to the scene in the last year, this is gonna be a great resource for me to see just how much has happened. Thanks for being a constant helpful person in this scene!!
When you said he said it was going to be a lot of work, that came as no surprise to me SuperVinlin GLaD y'all were able and willing to put in all that work to make it happen, looking forward to the upcoming videos based on all the new information
Some days I wonder why the hell I care about classic Tetris. But then these videos remind me about the stories and scene being so warm. I need to l2p...
It always feels a little self indulgent when someone uses Home's "We're Finally Landing" when talking about their own projects, but in this case I think you've earned it. Amazing work!
Cool video. I'm so deeply nostalgic about the Jonas era last decade when Classic Tetris was still relatively innocent and the only big tournament was in October. It was such a rare jewel every year, and that made it so exciting.
You're too modest Scout. You didn't "get lucky" that the player base exploded around that time. You *helped* create that growing player base. Your content is what made me aware of the scene back then. I'm not going to say you're single handedly responsible, or anything. Second this! He was how I found the scene as well!

So true! If it wasn't for Scout, I would never have known about the tetris scene! Thanks bro!
Small typo: you say the single is at level 19, but it's at 18. The score and everything else is right, though.
@@EebstertheGreatI mentally mix those up because I think of the multiplier number, not the level number.
there's an obvious joke here
Sad I missed the last month of my hosted events. That was when my mental health was at its worst. However, it's good to know that of each era, I did the second best job, so I feel a little less bad about it now. Thanks for the video. This was a fantastic watch, and you are an absolute blessing to the classic Tetris community. Thank you, scoutface! :D
OMG I JUST USED THE PLAYER V PLAYER SIMULATOR! You all used a FANTASTIC picture of me! :D :D :D :D Thank youuu!

not biased at all but i think this is your best video yet
Can we take a moment to thank how scout always makes our days better?
The man himself 🔥🔥🔥
Based archiver
I didn't know you were into Tetris
Wh- Remainings?! What the hell are YOU doing here?!
34:15 When that Summoning Salt music kicks in, I got so pumped.
I love that instead of a "Line cap" the end result was to mod the game to produce a "SUPER KILLSCREEN" instead.
Yeah, it had to be that way for sure, no other alternative is as good
Literally sat down to watch this and just realized it had been uploaded a minute ago! Great job on the database, data collection is super interesting. Honestly, your videos is what keeps me coming back to tetris.

Thank you very much for the data!

Guinness World Records: yeah there’s no way we could possibly find that kind of data and put it together.
Guy on the internet: hold my NES controller.

*slow clap*
My god man, I'm not big in the scene but what you've created here is monumental in its scope & dedication within the community. Well done
Oh my gosh, I started watching this video not realising that I was going to be in this spreadsheet! That's an insane effort, well done team.
WAIT I'M IN THE VIDEO

I literally been watching this since the first minute it went live,
congrats bro this is huge, holy crap this is massive... your effort and time has not been wasted.
This is simply phenomenal. The amount of work and effort into every aspect. And then also making the data freely available for analysis.
Some notes: 1. The best player ever is a brown leather jacket. 2. Vid Part 8.. I hear you (summoning salt) music , on game records ;)
Every consider R or R Shiny, or have others in the community into stats and data work? You, Marfan, etc. might enjoy it! Learning a statistical programming language (R, Stata, SAS, whatever) with a passion dataset is a great way to do that.
But yeah, this is stellar work. So glad you're still fed by the community and feeding it in return with these awesome videos and data journalism. Very cool. Best wishes!
Thank you for all the work you do and have done for our community 🙌❤
That is one serious amount of work. Holy crap. 😮 simply staggering, also love Van Dweller he’s got almost to much chill. 😂
Such an amazing project. Great work!
Scout, you're amazing. I thank you both so much. You guys deserve a lot for all your hard work.
Great video. Love the references to major sports in the beginning as I think it helps put a broader context into perspective for those who don't play Tetris, or understand the competitive scene. It's also very inspiring to see how low median scores were just a few years ago. Practice makes perfect. I hope to get a maxout one day.
Love your content, and love statistics! Subbed on Patreon because I'd love to see stuff more frequently
Really cool project, this is how you make a community better
what a wonderful video and truly inspiring too. the stats are mindblowing but it’s also just cool to see your personal journey of being a fan of baseball stats to now collecting stats for classic tetris. it’s truly inspiring and it makes me want to become so much more involved in the community, which is really one of the best communities I’ve been in
Incredible! Thanks so much to you and all the other volunteers who helped create this, it will be an invaluable resource for years and years to come!
I love your content that you do about Tetris with the stats and such
I got really inspired by you, thanks a lot! :D
Knowing that the masters statistics is public just makes me want to make it there even more, I love seeing myself on leaderboards.
I mean, from a fan to this? Scout, you’ve inspired me to be more involved in the Tetris community as well. Thank you ❤.
What a video! You might not read this comment but in case, this video is an inspiration to me as I try to do this type of retro database creation over a racing game's individual maps world record history. The result of the sheet you guys have made is really insane!
this is incredible! i love seeing these stats come to life
Coolest Tetris project of the year. Amazing work!
I feel like we’ve reached a new era of aGameScout and I can’t wait to see what’s next! I started following Classic Tetris because of your videos. Thank you for your passion towards this game and sharing the love with others 🎉
This is amazing! Thank you for all the hard work, it's been incredible watching the game grow.
great job, TYSM to you and the community for all the hard work! What a valuable resource!
I think the best part about this video is the fact that when putting down the thing for how much of each month was archived, it uses tetris sound effects, like the top out sound for when nothing was saved or the piece moving sound for weeks that were archived. :D
Amazing work! Thank you Scout and all the team that did all this work. I really appreciate you all! I love me some STATS!
logarithmic curve maybe? 9:12 great video! you the man I watch almost all of them
Wow. This is amazing! Such long working hours for the data, but so worth it! I hope because of this video there might be some VODs saved in someones HD found :)
Seeing you upload genuinely put a smile to my face :)
WOW!!! iam not into tetris at all but i work in science field and this crazy good amount of data-work is simply amazing. my greatest respect for aGameScout, all involved people and the whole community - its over 9000 ;) great video and great result as database! first video i watched here, instant subscription. looking forward to see more. thanks a lot. i wish you the best
This is the most badass stats i've ever seen! you guys are amazing!
This is INCREDIBLE! Excellent work to everyone who worked on this project. Can't wait for the work day to be over so I can go check it out 🙂
What a phenomenal feat. Well done to all of you that were involved.
What an incredible amount of work with an even better result. I should've been asleep half an hour ago... thank you :)
Everyone here is obligated to hit the like button on this video. This is so much work, such a great video and huge for the Classic Tetris scene.
awesome video man! I don't even play Tetris, but I really enjoy watching your video's. Great work, both you and from all the people that helped.
Incredible video! So great to see stats of this magnitude available through an easy to use interface.
Just watching Scout go deeper down the rabbit hole.
Actual MVP for trugging through just to make this statbase for Tetris possible, you and all the archivers are the best
incredible creation you guys im so hyped to go onto that website !!!! holy shit man that is actually crazy !!!!!
As someone who has not been able to keep up with all of the new changes to the scene in the last year, this is gonna be a great resource for me to see just how much has happened. Thanks for being a constant helpful person in this scene!!
You've done so much for tetris, and will go along in folklore even after you are gone.
When you said he said it was going to be a lot of work, that came as no surprise to me SuperVinlin
GLaD y'all were able and willing to put in all that work to make it happen, looking forward to the upcoming videos based on all the new information
Some days I wonder why the hell I care about classic Tetris. But then these videos remind me about the stories and scene being so warm. I need to l2p...
Holy cow! Good job man
It always feels a little self indulgent when someone uses Home's "We're Finally Landing" when talking about their own projects, but in this case I think you've earned it. Amazing work!
Cool video. I'm so deeply nostalgic about the Jonas era last decade when Classic Tetris was still relatively innocent and the only big tournament was in October. It was such a rare jewel every year, and that made it so exciting.
Amazingly well put together video, thank you!
This whole thing really is incredible. Thank you for all the hard work you guys have done and will do! Also, amazing video as always!
