Interesting that even when it was Doki Doki Panic, there were still things that were strictly Mario in there. The coins, and the POW block in particular, both having appeared in the series since Mario Bros. Arcade, five years earlier.
It started as a Mario prototype before being reworked into a Yume Kojou tie-in, so I won't doubt most of these elements were already there when it was still a Mario game.
I just love the effort put into the GBA ports. Advance 4 will probably remain my favourite (it's SMB3, it's a great game, what else can I say lol), but Advance is the best version of SMB2. Mario Bros. minigame, extra features, new intro screen, voice lines, and more!
Advance 4 in the virtual console had a lot of extra levels with the elements of all the Mario Advance Series. Making it a brand new game. Seriously, the dude who made the levels is a hero.
It's also in line with the concept art for the game. Mario had red overalls in all the art, but in game they were blue. The all stars remaster is really cool because it tries to match the concept art from every game

At one point she asked,”why do they have to make so much noise?” My response was,”what’s wrong? It’s just character voices.” While turning up the volume a little more. 🤣
I like what the GBA version did but the zoomed in screen and washed out colors make it difficult to choose over the SNES version. A hybrid of those 2 would be the ultimate version.
I didn't find the screen crunch to be a problem, and the paler colors actually match the boxart better than the SNES sprites, where everything looks like it's been given a tan.
My favorites are the original NES, then the SNES version, then Advance. I didn’t like how the characters looked in the remastered versions. The original music is the strongest in my opinion. As much as I like the GBA version, it did add quite a bit more of giant aspects that I felt took away from the game instead of adding something cool. Thanks for making this video because I didn’t know of those remastered versions. That’s interesting.

Love the SNES remaster hack, the characters look like their official original SMB2 artwork. Not fond of the shy guys and Toad seems to be missing a red dot on top of his hat when climbing, else everything seems to look great!
Geez! In all these years of the "Did you know Mario 2 was Doki Doki Panic" fatigue, I never once looked into what Doki Doki panic was actually like. I didn't realise it was literally just a frigging sprite swap!
That's because it's not. There are a lot of differences beyond that. The waterfall speed is different, enemy sprites are different, there is no run button, the character sprites are different, the levels have differences in their design, there are additional cutscenes before and after that are different, with a completly different story, the grass animations are different, the powerups have different sprites, and the game is required to be beaten four times with every character completing every level, the RNG on the slots are different, the score value of the end is different, and the continue system is different.
@@the-NightStar your examples included at least 5 instances of sprite swaps, lol. There are a few differences like you mentioned for SMB2, like the added ability to run, no battery backup, and no requirement to beat the game with all characters. Other than that, it’s 99% the same game.
Glad to see my hack there at the end, but I should say the Demo is outdated at this point, I've updated a lot of character sprites, and the Demo doesn't have any color pallet work done yet. The final version will give Luigi a more vibrant green, give Peach her blue earrings and brooch, Triclyde will be red, and Wart's Jacket will be a darker blue.
I prefer the original Super Mario Bros 2 or the Super Nintendo remake where the character never talked. In later installment, they never shut up. Sorry... Oh, and of course the remastered one. The new character sprites looks amazing!! Some reason, it heavily reminds me of "Super Mario Bros: Super Show".
Something that annoyed me back in the day was that in the NES and SNES version is that Mario's Overall is not Red and his sweater not blue and Luigi's overall is not Green and his sweater not blue/Purple(personally I prefer purple😉) like in the SMB2-artworks😅 the version at 21:29 is perfection in my eyes😃👍
Those just used to be their actual colour schemes. Mario's profile in one of the Smash games straight up points out that the colours swapped at some point in time.

The characters in it belonged to Fuji TV, so licensing rights is why we never got it in its original form. Though frankly, the refinements made in SMB2 make it a better experience overall. There is a romhack called "Super Doki Bros. 2" that reverts the characters back to their original forms, so you might be interested in it.
You know what would be great? Yume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic ---> With SNES (all stars type) Graphics... Seems like no one ever did it... Perhaps Mesen would be a way to make it.

I don't understand why those remasters exist. They don't look better. The best version is the SNES version, and if I could combine the best parts of any of them, I would be the putting the color palette, screen size and audio of the SNES version into the GBA version. It also kinda baffles me why Nintendo hasn't tried to make a "New Super Mario Bros 2", and go back to this game as the inspiration. Super Mario 3D World has the right sentiment (being able to play the 4 characters with their SMB2 abilities) but that's about all it shares.
Maybe it's just because I'm used to the original game, but I really don't like the reworked sprites in the NES Remaster. They look way too disproportionate. The SNES Remaster, however, looks really nice, though I'm not sure I prefer it to the regular Super Mario All-Stars version.

Oh! I thought you were kidding. It works fine for me. 👉Make sure u are patching the correct rom mentioned. 👉use different emulators, SNES 9x for snes games and Nestopia or Mesen for nes 👉use IPS online patcher or download tool from the same romhacking site.

After 5 min with the GBA SMB3 port, I tried to find an option to disable them in the menu, and then stopped playing after my friend confirmed there was no way to turn it off. I specifically asked my parents to NOT buy me a GBA SP or the game for Christmas; and I knew several others who returned it or didn't buy it. Having Mario screeeeech "HEHE JUST WHAT I NEEDED!!#@" for every mushroom in a tinny ear piercing shrill sample was just painful. Thank god I didn't get this version & have to listen to this version of Toad. I mean - why even have the sound effects if you're going to have a screech over them. I'm kinda surprised by all the comments saying they love the sound effects and terrible additions and worse graphics & music than the SNES... I guess I'm not too surprised; it's what you grew up with & have nostalgia for, I suppose. Good comparison video. No need to include those terrible rom hack "remasters", though.
Color pallette fix patch is necessary on these older GBA titles, makes a world of difference. I personally use the voice removal patch as well, got way too sick of hearing them through the OG GBA speaker back in the day. Most annoying demo unit in any store, ever.

I think none of these ones are the version I played a lot of time ago, the version I played had a window up and left that shows diferent game characters with diferent expressions , if it was happy, probably nothing happens, but if it was angry, the character would throw you something big like a Bomb or something else, this happens as least at the ice world, does anyone know the version?
nothing is ever "definitive" There is no "form of the Mario 2" to match perfectly It is art and it can always find more improvement. or "form of the youtube analysis of Mario 2" -- what if newer ROM hacks come out? This is a great approximation of the ideal however. Good game good video.

The sound effects from the boss fight from the Doki Doki Panic footage are not accurate because of the game being played on an emulator, just to be more precise 😅
Then you should say so in the video. If people don't know hacks exists, then they think those are real remasters. You should add text (Rom hack) after the name each time when unofficial stuff like mods or rom hacks are in the video.

There's a patch to shut them up for the GBA one. I use that one and the pallette fix patch and the game is way better.

The FDS sound emulation is inaccurate. What the sounds are _supposed_ to sound like, is what got recorded into the "Mario 2" version's samples.

You need to use either integer scaling or Bilinear Filtering. Notice how some of the pixels are randomly stretched?

I think none of these ones are the version I played a lot of time ago, the version I played had a window up and left that shows diferent game characters with diferent expressions , if it was happy, probably nothing happens, but if it was angry, the character would throw you something big like a Bomb or something else, this happens as least at the ice world, does anyone know the version?

A combination of the Gameboy Advance version and the remastered SNES version would be the best.
The sound effects from the boss fight from the Doki Doki Panic footage are not accurate because of the game being played on an emulator, just to be more precise 😅

Why do you include unofficial fanmade romhacks here?
To make the video unique and to show a better comparison between the ports. A lot of people don't even know the hacks exist.
Then you should say so in the video. If people don't know hacks exists, then they think those are real remasters. You should add text (Rom hack) after the name each time when unofficial stuff like mods or rom hacks are in the video.
