Autonomous Human Transportation PODs - Heathrow Airport - Post Covid Public Transportation?

- Come go an an autonomous journey with the Heathrow Airport Transportation Pods.
We had a long layover at the Heathrow Airport, so we decided to leave the security area to check out these Autonomous Pods connecting Heathrow's Terminal with 2 Parking facilities. We've seen them online before our trip and really wanted to check them out.
It was a fun experience and a good time waster - did we feel like we arrived into the future with these PODs - definitely not. They kind of reminded us of state fair bumper cars released onto tracks.
With the pandemic now and looking back at this transportation system, it did help us to envision how public transportation could look like in the future. Individual pods, sterilized between trips and of course self driving! We would sign up for a service like this in an instant.

i would love to see these become more common outside places like airports, im a wheelchair user and that resulted in certain affects that prevent me from driving, i have a trams system to get around on which is great and gives me a lot of freedom to get around but it can get busy which i dont like, these would be great for privacy, i'd buy one myself if i could lol.
I have used the Heathrow pods a coupe of times. Really handy, park your car walk to the pod station catch the pod right into the terminal. it saves trying to catty heavy suits cases on and of one the shuttle buses.
Just the parking is expensive. Isn't it cheaper to just get a taxi or uber to the airport? They can drive you right to the terminal.
I doubt if uber or a taxi will be cheaper I live 90 Miles from the airport cheapest taxi costs about £317 for a return trip. pod parking £263.

All the lots at the station were taken so we had to stop and wait and that sound was jus the sound of pod stopping and not hitting the other pod :)

Transportation of the future we’re gonna see a lot more of as the years go on and we get closer to 2050 so I say get use to it now, the future is happening whether we like it or not, it looks cool and relaxing
We still hope for nobody owning their own cars but everyone uses a system where they can call transportation pods.

Well, it could be smoother tbh! And yes you could stand up ... and you could read a book too ... wasn't feeling nervous at all while riding.

@@MusikCassette rubber tires allow for tighter turns and higher acceleration. This isn't going very far or being used very much so the things you said aren't a concern
@@Gfynbcyiokbg8710 yes they are. in contrast to a street the tires here always role over the same small bit of asphalt. you can already see the wear on the road, despite this being a very light load.
