I don't understand why they were so adamant about Susanne using the lesbian label EVEN IN EPISODES LIKE THESE WHEN LIKE THEY BRING UP HER ATTRACTION TO MEN. Like say the word, BISEXUAL. Not that hard folks.

I understand your frustration with the writers not making it clear that Susanne is bi, not lesbian like Carla. However, I don't think Susanne ever actually uses the word herself. It's more that people around her who are unfamiliar with the Lez/Bi/Queer spectrum assume that once a woman falls for or is with another woman, that means she's lesbian.
What they *could* have had Lisa say instead is "When did you realize you liked women?" Although even that isn't really correct, since we don't know whether Susanne is discovering that she finds women attractive or just that she's head-over-heels for *Carla* .
It's odd, too, since, in my experience, most bisexuals, especially "new" ones, would be quick to correct people who try to label them as gay/lesbian. They might not even want the bisexual label. Plenty of people would say "I love *this* person...and I'm not into labels".

@@nodoboho my problem lies in the fact that Susanne never used the label herself, that no one ever suggested it was a possibility. That there are no binaries in sexuality and her relationship with Carla doesn’t invalidate her other relationships. She could have lesbian and I would have totally fine with that, like people realize it later in life and Susanne has the whole “I saw you and the fog lifted moment” and that would have been fine, except they probably knew were they were going because the hints are NOT subtle and if they knew she was eventually gonna find a dude attractive again it would have been better to just have her explore and figure it out that bisexual was a better label but no one ever even suggests that she is bisexual. Like either she is straight or she is gay. There are other options out there, and the fact that no one ever brings it up is what bothering me. Mostly. Also that they went down the route they chose to, but that is a completely different problem all together.

@@EmmieClassix Yes. But I did notice that Susanne does sometimes say she isn't lesbian, like she's still figuring it out and doesn't know what to call herself (and maybe isn't too concerned with labels anyway). But, yes, it would have been clearer for the audience (and a public service, too) if they had put in at least one scene where she explicitly grapples with it or simply states, "I still find men attractive, and I did in the past, so I'm bisexual...and I'm with Carla now and I love her madly."
I would have been curious to see her noticing other women and finding *them* attractive, too. It would be odd if they never went dancing at a lesbian bar or attended a gay event together in all the time they were together. In real life, falling in love with a woman is usually the gateway to the gay scene and to discovering you are attracted to women in general and perhaps, in hindsight, always were...regardless of whether you feel you are lesbian or bi (or pan or whatever).

    Susanne is the problem

  • @nodoboho

Bad writing--Susanne doesn't even demonstrate, let alone *help* newbie Carla get into her harness (you'd think she'd love to help her cinch it up), but she runs over to help a stranger and give him extended "hands-on" attention? Pffft.

Susanne is not a woman for Carla. This poorly written series has no chemistry between them, Carla behaves as if she is pressured to live openly as a lesbian as she can't live out the true love he had in Hanna but can't show it. Carla and Hanna forever.
