    I love how Mark transforms the Viltrum Empire into his father’s lie of what it was. Now it’s no longer a deception. They actually are invincible protectors of the lesser developed worlds. And Mark recalling Nolan saying “What will you have after 500 years?” Perfect ending.

      This is an awesome analysis and one Kirkman likely intended. Mark turned the Viltrumites into the shining paragons of peace he was told they were as a child. It may have been a lie at first, but maybe some little piece of him always carried that with him so he could make it true.

      It's so poetic how mark's statement about having his dad in 500 years ended up being false but his father's lies becomes the truth. Honestly, u wish his dad was still around to see it.

    One of, if not THE most important part of the ENTIRE series:
    The ending, which takes place 500 years in the future. Mark & Eve sharing a quiet moment, reflecting on the good they’ve accomplished and the family they’ve built, and Mark telling Eve what his father asked him during their first fight: “What will you HAVE after 500 YEARS?”

      It'd be really nice if there were a few clear start/end stories in marvel and dc. Like give us a 'Death Of' story that actually is the death of character X (or at least retirement) especially for legacy heroes who have someone to take up the mantle. Stories like that are why i liked Witchblade and the Wildstorm Universe (Image) so much. You really see the characters develop and even if the end is bitter sweet it's still enjoyable.

      @@augury2699 If we're looking at a business prospect, you're talking about ending a century of comics that have stood strong and keep gathering new readers; ergo the business would die if there were endings to these staples of superheroes, then you'd be faced with the challenge of if any of the new replacements are even gonna catch your reader's eyes.
      On the story writing perspective, the journey began with them. Clark Kent learning he's Kal-El from the planet Krypton, and following the wish to be something more to the people on Earth. Bruce Wayne suffering tragedy to become a symbol of fear to the criminals he fights. Peter Parker, a normal boy (at the time), learning the responsibility of having great power to do better things. Tony Stark learning that his lifestyle and business hurt people more rather than helped people.
      It's probably not hard to write their stories, it's just hard to get a reader to accept anyone else to be Superman, Batman, Spider-Man, Iron Man, Wonder Woman, Captain America, etc. Because people invested in 'one version' of these characters. To see another person take that mantle is just tough for many to agree with.

    • @PGGreatOak
      @PGGreatOak 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@augury2699 Then again that's probably why they do multiverses.

    • @augury2699
      @augury2699 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@PGGreatOak yeah i understand the business aspect and the consumer view. N52 is a rather perfect example, thet changed the characters up a bit and people absolutely hated it. I have my own theory as to why and how to end stories without being as final as killing off the characters, but no need to go into that. The multiverse stories would be great if they really moved forward on them. DC completely killed The Wildstorm Universe and Marvel did the same with Ultraverse from Malibu. We cant really get stories like Witchblade or Wildstorm universe anymore since they decimate competition.

    Mark quoting his dad with the “What will you have in 500 years” while relaxing with his wife and daughter is such a strangely heartwarming ending for a series that routinely kills people off in the most horrific and graphic ways possible.
    Also I’m surprised Eve and Mark never considered that Eve’s powers included immortality when she’s been in so many spots where she unquestionably should’ve died and her powers just randomly kicked in.

    16:32 The most interesting part about Mark putting Immortal as the ruler of Earth is that it was actually referenced way earlier when Mark was fighting Angstrom Levy while dimension hopping. He met alternate universe Immortal where he left him as a ruler of Earth for a thousand years and Immortal has become severely depressed and begged Mark to kill him. Unfortunately, Mark didn't seem to remember it so he pretty much recreated that universe himself.

    • @MatthewCobalt

      I think he did remember, but at least he didn't leave him all alone. Monster Girl is effectively will age in a loop, and Robot is just a brain in a jar. It's not the most ideal, but I'm pretty sure they wouldn't leave Immortal.

    • @Enryu_uyrnE
      @Enryu_uyrnE ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nextanvil3346 I agree. I honestly found it quite lame that there was no level of training on Mark’s part for the battle with Thragg. Like let’s say they were much further away from the sun and closer to earth… then what?? How’s Mark winning now? The point of the sun was to close the gap a bit by making their punches have near equal weight. But without that shell of skin, Mark’s still like a year of training away from beating Thragg. Let’s say everyone was killed, then he comes after eve. Eve comes back, can’t revive mark since he’s drifting in space, miles away and probably dead by now. Eve does her conquest blast… BUT GUESS WHAT?!?! That does NOTHING to Thragg! And then Thragg kills her after her boost of energy. The Viltrumites will be too overwhelmed to see Thragg coming to assasinate them, and Thragg wins. It just didn’t feel like that much preparation on the author’s part. It seemed like they were trying to finish it quickly.
