    Street price for a Garmin 255 is about $4500. Sure, rewiring will eat up that difference, but are you really going to hook up your new $5k radio to 40 year-old wiring, coax, antenna, etc? The KX155 tray uses card-edge connectors!

      This latest batch of Honeywell/King products are so lacking that it really turns me off the whole brand. I was kinda indifferent before and now they actively disgust me. I was actually considering an Aerocruze, which I know was acquired and not developed by them. Not any more.

    What did a new KX165/155 cost in the 80s? When adjusted for inflation is $5100 is probably not that bad.

    So, if you do the math, you get a brand new unit for less than what it costs for most others because wiring/fitting costs are eliminated. Nice!

    Missing playback feature. They need a replacement model for the SL30 as well.

    Make sure you find GAMI and grill them why g100ul isn't at a single airport yet despite being a year since the approval

    • @dieselyeti
      @dieselyeti ปีที่แล้ว +1

      GAMI isn't responsible for distribution, they just hold the STC. It's up to the fuel suppliers/distributors to work it out.

    Way cheaper to install than replacing with a comparable Garmin unit. Guess I'm going Avidyne and this.

    $5,100 plus freight, taxes, currency conversion and installation. $20k. Hmmm.

    We've become way too dependent on technology. Just give me the classic comm selectors and call it a day

    Looks pretty gimmicky and a hard sell if you have an existing working 155 or other radio.
    Could have wow’ed us with some advanced signal processing to improve sound quality or something functional beyond channel presets.
    Money would be far better spent on some digital engine monitoring or putting towards a G500.

    You know, The items you guys choose to highlight are interesting, however, I would expect more about the aircraft instead of advertisements for all the new Whizbang electronics. It is supposed to be "news" not paid advertisements. Avweb is getting to be a disappointment. I long for the Avweb of old.

    • @jmwintenn
      @jmwintenn ปีที่แล้ว

      what new aircraft are they supposed to be covering?

    • @thomashudgins996
      @thomashudgins996 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jmwintenn Any and all of them. I think Avweb should spin off a new publication called Avioncs or some such and focus of aviation as a whole and not promote products like they are surprised at the achievements the manufacturers make when you can see through the product placements. Better to have a dedicated outlet for that where those who are in the market can see what is new and improved.

      These are the products that aircraft owners are interested. I’d bet the market for a replacement to a radio that thousands of us already own is a lot larger than the group of people that are interested in buying a brand new airplane.
