Here in New Zealand I have been picking tomatoes, beans, pakchoi, silverbeet, capsicum, achocha, cucumber, tromboncino, and globe artichoke! In summer here it has been thirty two degrees Celsius and very windy, so we do a lot of watering at night and feeding the plants

Loving your videos, I’ve been busy at my allotment topping up Woodchips’s paths and clearing rubbish that was there before I was. Next week I’m planting my bare root fruits and topping up my beds with compost and manure. My rhubarb is nice and cosy under a mulch already. My garlic is coming up.
I leave a few vegetables uncovered for wildlife to eat, I always find I’ve sowed too many and I actually really enjoy watching caterpillars munching on my broccol! X

Awesome 🤩 sounds like you’ve plenty going on and my broccoli 🥦 had pretty much finished so the birds etc are finishing it off now too

My rhubarb _Victoria_ is showing signs of life up here in Cumbria.
One job I have is to move some year old, grown from seed asparagus crowns from the back garden to the allotment.
Next is sowing onions, then aubergine, peppers (sweet & chile) & tomatoes.
I've managed to keep some tomato _Sungold_ cuttings this far through winter & though they're a tad leggy, they'll supply more cuttings to turn into plants for either the greenhouse or allotment.
Weather looks to be dry for the weekend, so I'll spread home made compost on the garden beds (27m², so 800 litres) & put aside another 450 litres for the 50/50 mix I use in my 30 litre potato tubs (I just emptied the last tub of _Charlotte_ put in the garage at the beginning of last August. 3kg of perfect 'new' potato taste, except quite a few will now be chitted for this year).
Speaking of spuds; my seed potatoes have landed & along with home saved, they're now sat in egg trays on my north facing windowsills to chit for the next 8 weeks.
Another job is off the plot: Go down onto the shore & collect as much seaweed as possible to start making compost for next year's International Kidney (AKA Jersey Royal) experiment, seeing as I was let down on my International kidney seed potato order this year.
Got to keep busy as it's a break from preparing my brother's funeral service & all the grief & emotion.

My go to channel! Liked the rotation advice. My garlic and onions are well mulched and doing well. Chitted potatoes in large egg boxes waiting for drier weather. Chicks are a fortnight old and enjoying the stove warmth in the kitchen. Again, thanks for the advice.

It is a long time since I have heard the phrase ‘don’t get too bent out of shape’ took me back to my southern beginnings😂.

I can’t believe we’re nearly in February. I got a new allotment in October and it’s been a lot of graft to get it ready. As spring approaches I’m starting to panic!

You’ll be fine / there’s no rush and you so have lots of time / pace yourself and do little and often / you’ll get there / even I feel a little overwhelmed each year but guess what it all works out fine / enjoy the journey 🌱

I covered my raised beds with weed fabric about a month ago to let my cardboard/compost sandwich break down. I went back today and noticed that whilst the cardboard has broken down, the compost is very wet. I assume all the recent rain is the culprit. Should i cover with black polythene to warm the soil or leave the weed fabric in situ??

Personally I would never cover with plastic / what you’ve done is fine / I personally would have done cardboard or weed fabric but there’s absolutely nothing wrong with what you’ve done / you want the beds moist as it will soon dry out and if you’ve covered it I would expect the cardboard to compost quicker anyway
