I love the internet. First search result is this video, with the link to the part. You're awesome.

You absolutely ROCK! This issue has been plaguing me for a couple of years! I was not going to pay the exorbitant amount my Subaru dealer wanted to fix it, but you tipped me off to an inexpensive, easy-to-diy, repair. You saved me $$ and I really appreciate the effort and time you took to put out this video. Thank you!

Thank you! Trying to help a friend fix her sunglasses holder in a 2012 Legacy. This is EXACTLY what I needed. You clearly and simply explained in under 5 minutes what it takes others 20, and they still leave you confused. Shame you seem to have stop posting videos.

Dealer quoted by $150 to replace the whole console! Took me less than 2 minutes to fix. THANK YOU!

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Your fix was so easy and cheap and worked on my 2013 Subaru Forester. Took me 10 minutes max and cost around $20 (mostly shipping + I bought 2 just in case). The dealer wanted $250 + labor.

This was the best video for showing how to fix this annoying problem. I got my part from Subaru and it was only about $8 but NO SHIPPING because it was picked up at my local parts counter. Other units were cheaper but had $8-$10 for the shipping! Point is, you rock and I fixed it with your help. Thank you!

You are indeed a superhero for digging all these details up to share it with helpless subaru customers like us. I have had a broken lock for over two years. Have been putting it off considering the dealer insisted the whole console needs replaced for a silly broken clip. Didnt want to be ripped off. I'm glad your video showed up with a google search for "overhead console". Thank you for sharing.

Thanks you for posting this video. I had a little trouble compressing the spring loaded clips with a screwdriver or pen cap. I ended up fashioning a piece of household copper wiring (3 inches). in a "U" shape. I inserted the tool and the piece surrendered, popping out nicely..

Thanks for the video. I was changing the map bulbs in my 2014 Outback and one of the bulbs popped out of my fingers and disappeared through the open back of the console and ended up on top of it! I removed the two screws but the console was held in so tight I was afraid I would break it pulling it down. Then I found your video and saw which end to pull down and I popped it out and retrieved the bulb! I then inserted both bulbs before replacing the console!! Thanks again!!

I ordered a new latch for the sunglasses holder in my Outback. Thanks for the link to it. Other wise i would have had to order it directly from the dealer, which costs about 4 times as much. Your video makes it look pretty simple to replace it. I can do that easily. Thanks for the info!

Amazing! Thank you so much! Just bought this exact car and had this issue arise 2 months after purchase. Dealership said trim can't be warrantied and estimated $100 to fix it...so I laughed and walked away. I'm glad I researched and found this!!!!! Thank you.

Wow, you are a Godsend. I am such a novice I don't even know how to change oil (didn't bother to dirty my hands, I supposed). But your video motivates me because I refuse to pay the dealer $200+ for a simple clip change. So I ordered 3 ($5 @ average) via your link and took me almost half an hour (because I have to gingerly remove so I don't break anything) but end result of total satisfaction. A BIG THANK YOU.

I am so excited!! That was a really easy fix! It took a little longer than I expected because when I took out the 2 screws, I thought I was being clever and leaving them in the sunglasses holder so I wouldn't lose them. However, when I snapped the unit out, the 2 screws went flying and then I spent 10 minutes searching the car until I found them. Doh! Anyway, I'm delighted to have found your video and very grateful for the very clear instructions and the link to the inexpensive part. I also ordered 3, so now have what I need the next time, as I expect the part will fail again in a few years. Thank you! Thank you!

For 2010 Subaru Outbacks, this guide works perfectly. But for the 2010 outback, make sure to take the overhead set off from the back! Not from the front as shown in this video - remove it from the back, and work towards the front, and then follow the video exactly. Then you will fix the problem perfectly without any damage or issues. Back to front for 2010 Outbacks!
