I love Jimmie Vaughan and everything he represents. People often want to compare him to Stevie and criticize his more minimalistic / restrained style. But the man is his own artist. His playing is so tasteful, and he’s an utter master at his craft. He recognizes that it’s the silence between the notes that makes the music. The universe blessed us with his talent. Cherish him while we still have him - he’s a walking gallery of the blues. God bless you, Jimmie Lee Vaughan, and the Texas blood that runs through your soul.

Jesus Jimmie, you’re gonna make me cry and I’m at the office tryna work. Breaks my heart man. Much love and appreciation for you my friend. Vaughan’s are the reason I play the blues every night when I go back home from my 10 hour shift and I’m alone in my small apartment. Just when I start playing I feel like no trouble matters, I can just play it all away. Thank you for showing me a way out.

I got to see Jimmie at the New Daisy Theatre in Memphis. It was either his first or second show after Stevie died. Right when Strange Pleasure came out. Maybe '92 or '93?? He did this song, and could barely get through it. Emotions very high still at that time. It was a great show, and even Rene Martinez did a flamenco guitar number. He was awesome as well. I went back into the theatre after everyone had left, and caught Jimmie by himself walking up the isle alone, and I got to shake his hand and he gave me an autograph. One of the coolest events in my life...I think I was 18 at the time, never will forget it.

I had the pleasure of bumping into Jimmie on his way into his gig in Beverly last Friday. He was super cool and even though he was probably in a hurry to get backstage and ready for his show he stopped for a minute, said hi shook my hand and took a picture with me. But during the show i knew he was going to play Six Strings Down and when he did everyone else left the stage there was a single spotlight on him and this man just poured his feelings out into that strat, and damnit I've heard this tune so many times before but ill admit i started to tear up hearing it live

    Alpine Valley
In the middle of the night
    Six strings down
    On the heaven-bound flight
Got a pick, a strap, guitar on his back
Ain't gonna cut the angels no slack
    Heaven done called
    Another blues-stringer back home
    See the voodoo chile
    Holding out his hand
I've been waitin' on you brother
    Welcome to the band
    Good blues-stringin'
    Heaven-fine singin'
    Jesus, Mary and Joseph
    Been lis'nin' to your playin'
    Heaven done called
    Another blues-stringer back home
    Lord they called
    Another blues-stringer back home
    Albert Collins up there
    Muddy an' Lightnin' too
    Albert King and Freddy
    Playin' the blues
    T-Bone Walker, Guitar Slim

Best piece of music Jimmy ever played, for obvious reasons. When my father died, I was giggin' in a funk band in a club in San José. I played Horace Silver's "Song for My Father" and couldn't stop playing. Emotion does that. But Jimmy wrote that from his heart. And it's in an old Black bluesman style, like Robert Johnson through Lightning Hopkins, that Jimmy obviously went to school on. He did it justice, very nice.

He died about 7 miles from our. I guess we were busy because I didn't even know he was around until hearing it on the radio. What a great loss. He is dearly missed by many people.

That was beautiful thank you for that. Brought a tear to my eye. I’m teaching my son about Stevie Ray Vaughan right now. And he loves Albert King and Stevie Ray Vaughan’s song Born under a bad sign. He’s 8 plays guitar and bass. Loves his strat. Tells me he can’t get that song out of his head. Anyway I found this video because I saw a picture of you both playing together. You had your arms around Stevie and you were both playing his guitar. That’s what brought me here. Thank you.

Man this format really is Jimmie at his best. It's totally different than SRV and really shines in a more solo setting like this.

Conviction of the soul that connects the heart to the hands. That's the ingredient that makes these Vaughan brothers superhuman. When I heard Stevie and Jimmie for the first time, I somehow knew that I would never try to play like them. Because I knew it only works for them. They made me want to find my own magic. And Jimmie singing about Stevie... Just makes me want to sit quiet.

Very good production. You don't have to ask, "How'd he play dat?" And Jimmie Vaughan, God bless you, man. I came here, to this song, to pay tribute to Sterling Magee, "Satan" & Mr.Vaughan did not disappoint. Many thanks to Blues Kitchen TV. Ya done good.
