I don't know how Mr. Lawson could have stood at the helm of the pulpit on the Lord's day knowing full well that he was deep in sin. How very hypocritical and deceitful. Clearly, he disqualified himself permanently from any type of leadership role in the church. I pray for the fruits of repentance to become evident in his life, as well as restoration to fellowship under the leadership of the elders.

I appreciate the response I’ve seen from most. People are praying for Steve and his family. He is receiving the kind of grace that we should give in abundance.
He is receiving what should be given (from individuals), regardless of the fact that the typical Calvinist response is to question a person’s salvation.

    • @mixedupjo
      @mixedupjo 11 วันที่ผ่านมา

No, it is not the typical Calvinist's response to question a person's salvation! Lawson's salvation is not in question here. Calvinists know that. He's been a powerful ministerial force for God and His Church, and that is almost universally recognized. He fell into an egregious sin because of the sinful nature that saved people continue to struggle against AFTER they are saved. God doesn't unsave or disinherit His adopted children because they sin. Saved people lie, covet, and commit adultery. What's in question is Lawson's role going forward and HOW we are to restore him in a spirit of gentleness as in Galatians 6:1. You can't simply deny and negate the man's spiritual gifts and his use of them because he's a sinner saved by grace. We aren't the ones who ex-communicate or shun people for sinning. The question isn't whether he's saved. It's "where do mercy and restoration take us from here."

Judas one of the twelve. Mathew 10 1And when He had called His twelve disciples to Him, He gave them power over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease. 2Now the names of the twelve apostles are these: first, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother; 3Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and Matthew the tax collector; James the son of Alphaeus, and [a]Lebbaeus, whose surname was Thaddaeus; 4Simon the [b] Cananite, and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed Him. Jesus gave him all the gifts. But he had not the Holy Spirit for he harbored secret sin. So what if he was a good preacher and wrote many books. God never measures a man by his preaching or writing of books or how big a church he pastors. None of these are signs to God that he is of God. Man measures the outward appearance. God measures the heart. Even false leaders are called into ministry just like Judas.

Even if this is a “one off” incident … This does not just happen! There must have been some serious flirting that happened before. Some obvious and perhaps subtle sexual overtures that occurred before. Some serious thoughts, imaginations and sexual fantasies within his private mind entertained by him! I find it strange that he be allowed to preach after he made the confession to the church leaders.
Maybe he preached this sermon and then after that he went and made the confession.
It is not giving God glory to keep on ministering and preaching while you know you have sinned in such a way.
Maybe it was just a one time hiccup that happened a few days ago. And maybe the elders didn't know about it before he continued to preach and ministered. Wishfull thinking I know. But the alternative is making a mockery of Christian leaders and preaching.
One more thing. I know that we all have sinned and that we should be praying for him and everybody involved, but we should also call sin sin and not make excuses.
Commiting sin and being convicted of it, will make a Christian immediately mournful and regretting that sin. Not wanting to continue on with it.
Hopefully this is what happened to Steven Lawson.
    Let's not be hypocrites.
When other Christians leaders (not reformed) have gone through similar situations, it is interesting how the same commentators had very different views.

Thank you. These people are not doing any favours to Steve Lawson by making so light of what he has done. Pastors are held to a much higher standard. And that he preached this before informing the Elders shows a great disregard for the Lord and the flock and his family. "By suggesting that some sins are worse than others, I am saying, with James Fisher (1697-1775), that such “are more abominable, hateful, and offensive to God than others are” (Ezek. 8:6, 13, 15, “greater abominations”). Indeed, all sins are hateful and offensive to God, and even the least sin deserves his eternal wrath. But there are biblical reasons that some sins are more heinous than others.
A pastor who commits adultery sins in a greater way than a mere member of Christ’s church who commits the same sin. Pastors are judged more strictly due to their office and role in the church. To whom much is given, much is required." - The gospel, which the pastor has been preaching but not believing, is still the only remedy. The pastor needs to not only see how aggravating his sin has been towards those in his life (wife, children, congregation, friends, etc.) but also towards God. There must be a loud, public confession that screams, “I am guilty.” Then, and only then, can there be a loud, public scream from heaven, “you are forgiven.”

Nor will we have to hear all the Calvinists’ man worship about how he was such a great man of God and powerful expository teacher. But in spite of all his failings, both theological and moral, God’s grace is still available to him. However, whether he will ever humble himself to receive it remains to be seen. ✝️🙏🏼🍞🍷

And for every teacher of the life of Christ, listen up. A reed that can not be shaken does not ask questions like that. The greatest man ever born of a woman never, ever, EVER doubted who Christ was/is.
All John was after was for his disciples to see and hear Jesus speak the words. John had no questions. John wanted to know that his disciples believed in the One for whom John ran ahead and proclaimed Christ's arrival. That was the gift John was after and then he knew, as a man of God Almighty that he did indeed finish well. When I hear a man who calls himself a Christian say The Great John Baptist doubted, it makes Jesus Christ want to vomit.

Maybe in a few years he could teach Bible studies on some level or something. IDK, I think that it would be a long, hard road of restoration, and I do not believe that after someone commits adultery that they should be allowed in the pulpit again, in six months, which is so common today… Preachers get restored after 3 to 6 months and to me that is ridiculous. Wife and family should be top priority while being restored to fellowship with the Lord and the church. This slap on the wrist stuff is not it, but I do believe that restoration can be possible, at least to some degree, depending upon the fruit of repentance and the willingness to go deep in humble submission and servitude.

It seems that Steve was living a double life, and perhaps he became so good at compartmentalizing his two lives that he became numb to how off-base his sin had become. That's scary! No excuse. He who sins is of the devil. God hates the wicked. We ought to pray for him to fall on his face and beg for God to forgive him and turn from sin; repent. No one forced him to sin unless he is a Calvinist. Then of course, God caused it. He just practiced what he preached, Aren’t they taught they are all sinners and have no control? So, who can judge? Seems like they’re all in the same boat. Why did they fire just him? Saved from sin to continue in sin is quite the prosperity “gospel”.

""This is rather bleak reading. But warnings about the consequences of our sin need to be sounded when appropriate. I need to be reminded of what can be lost and if you are a pastor you need to be reminded of what you will lose. It will be far more than what you think you are gaining.
Sin is bleak. And some sins are bleaker than others. In the case of a pastor who commits adultery, it is one of the worst sins conceivable. And that’s why it is usually impossible and inadvisable for such a person to be restored to ministry.
The gospel, which the pastor has been preaching but not believing, is still the only remedy. The pastor needs to not only see how aggravating his sin has been towards those in his life (wife, children, congregation, friends, etc.) but also towards God. There must be a loud, public confession that screams, “I am guilty.” Then, and only then, can there be a loud, public scream from heaven, “you are forgiven.” -Mark Jones.

Your compassion is so overwhelming. It is amazing. I do not agree with his theology of Calvinism or the sens of the gift, but that does not stop me for praying for him and his restoration. Certainly, there is no excuse for what he did, but it could happen to any of us And we need to be humbled before the Lord. Those that think they are the strongest many times are the weakest and we can have no confidence in the flesh. I will admit that he was very harsh toward many that fell and I believe that the Lord can Work, in spite of this to show Brother Lawson, his marvelous grace of fresh and a new.

He has lost his way, he has stumbled in his journey with his Lord and Savior, but all who belong to Christ will not lose not one. Let us pray that Steve is on bended knee before the Lord. As Christians we are to be a loving and forgiving people. 🙏 🙏 🙏 Hope, Faith and Love but above all is love. Not a problem on that!
However, if he loves the Lord and he knew he sinned. He shouldn't wait for someone to see him or accused him. He needed to pray and talk to the persons he hurt before the gossip.
He failed before praising another man like he was god. A man who is human and not perfect.
May be because he is his boss and he gave him work?
Of course, we must pray for him and his family and all hurt because he will not teach.

Okay, and you're a Catholic, which is a mortal sin because you totally ignore the entire book of Hebrews and re-sacrifice Jesus on the altar every time you have Mass. Jesus was sacrificed ONCE. Thinking that was insufficient and must be repeated frequently ad infinitum is trampling the Son of God underfoot and counting His sacrifice insufficient to save. God's grace can neither be earned nor lost according to man's works. But then, that's all in the Bible. Our assurance of salvation rests squarely on the words of Jesus in John 10:28-29.
