From an Englishman in Slovakia at half 3 in the morning…SERVE BY LEADING…..oh dear Lord thank you for this message. And kudos to Pastor Joel too 😎 💪🏻. Thank you gentlemen.
Joel is super based. We are so fortunate to have found a small church here in the UK that ignored the covid rules and our pastor is a godly man who loves the Lord, loves the word and loves me and my family very well (he gives my 3 year old daughter a piggy back ride to our car after thr service each week!). Cool. What's your favorite thing about Jesus? What's your favorite story from the gospels? These are the questions I wish I'd been asked when I was young.
I find it interesting what is said about courage. I see now that I lack courage in a lot of things. I was in liberal Christianity and came back and had to repent on numerous stuff but I am still struggling with cowardice to identify myself as a Christian clearly with people. My question would be: how do you develop courage? I would really like to not be a coward anymore…
These guys have already answered implicitly, right? (1) Integrity with sin holistically like John Owen’s book, Mortification of Sin. A good tree these guys reminded us cannot bear bad branches or fruits. And (2) Have a spiritual father in church, hopefully your pastor or an elder? Kill every sin you become aware of with integrity… but you also need a father for accountability, teaching and leadership. At least that’s what I hear.
1 John 1:9-10 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us. I'm incredibly disheartened by this news. Pastor Lawson preached two of the best sermons I've ever heard in person, and I never would have suspected that he would be caught up in this kind of scandal, especially at his age. This did not help me in my personal situation as my wife is struggling with the whole protestant tradition and its outcomes, and especially reformed theology to the point she is increasingly intrigued by eastern orthodoxy, about which I have serious reservations. Blows like this Lawson affair news are tough to take.
Same brother. It hurts. Its happened to me a few times with different Christians who I loved deeply. At the end though, if you abandoned God because of other people, then you faith was never in Him at all. Hold to truth and remain unmoved. God will get you through it. God bless
The bigger question should be why are you holding these men on such pedestals? The doctrine is the doctrine. Allowing men to shape your interpretation of God's word is a bad start.
We've created an environment in the church where pastors can become celebrities. This is why I believe that churches should be smaller in size. Maybe even home church bible studies. To avoid having men have so much prominence in church
I should clarify that this news makes me sad and disappointed, but my faith isn't the one shaken. I admired the preaching of Lawson, but he is far from even my favorite preacher, much less my guru or something. It's my wife who is doubting protestantism, the Solas, and all the rest and when these prominent evangelical men fall into or are caught in these scandals it hurts my case in her eyes, which causes strife in our marriage.
@@Arkeo36Go to ancientpathstv and watch his videos on Catholics and Eastern Orthodox. You can probably find ammunition there to shepherd your wife away from considering it.
Joel's critique of Lawson focusing on biblical exposition rather than the culture wars is one of the most ridiculous takes I've heard. Maybe I misunderstood him. I really doubt Lawson's fall was the result of being too focused on the scriptures .
true Biblical exposition will definitely have practical applications for the times.. the fact that Lawson dodged that aspect proves he WASN’T truly expositing and acting cowardly by avoiding it
@@toughbiblepassages9082 what you're talking about Lawson calls the "so what". How does this passage apply to my own life. Something tells me you haven't actually listened to Steve Lawson. You saying he doesn't speak about practical application kinda shows your ignorance. Respectfully

I’m one of the 13%! I’m not intimidated by men who take a stand. The church needs more strong men willing to stand no matter what it costs them. I pray the Lord continues to bless your much needed ministry!🙏🙏🙏
Good conversation. I found it interesting that, "it seemed", those who were very quick to question Ravi's salvation were not as forward and quick in questioning Lawson's salvation. Both were long term sin patterns. One longer, maybe, than the other, but, still, both were long term as they continued to speak and write books.
13%er here who loves listening for your insights in general, but also because you convict me with incredible insights in how to better submit to and encourage my husband’s leadership.
I feed on pastor like Steve Lawson, John MacArthur, Paul Washer, R C Sproul, Burk Parsons. Cus in my local church don’t teach the all Scripture, so i have to grow and hear sound doctrine. So is painful to see one of the beloved teachers fall. I hope he is repented and restored.
Why not read Matthew and as you read, ask Jesus to explain things to you? Yes, I mean literally stop. Look up and say... "dear Lord, can you help me understand this?" Or if he says something you like, stop and tell him "I like when you said that." Let Jesus feed you.
Is the host suggesting (at about the 9:45-10:15 time stamp) that Lawson was never saved to begin with?? It that's true (i doubt it) then he was a master deceiver! - and deceived all these other "men of God ".
I do wonder if rock star ministry may be a key part of this problem. Never ending travel, away from wife and family and local elders and close friends.
42 minutes?! Is not nearly enough time to take in and enjoy the complete meals you serve Bro! I could handle an hour and 42 or more to be sure. Praying for y’all …love you guys!
Still sick to my stomach over this. Isaiah 2:22. Psalm 146:3. Lawson was long one of my favorite contemporary pastors/theologians, and it was cool to see and hear him last September at G3. Having said that, eternal salvation doesn’t negate earthly consequences. His privilege to lead a local church as pastor is now gone forever.
Trying to decipher what you are saying in the light of the Bible , in terms of “ prolonged sin “ that brings “displeasure from the Father”. Why not speak like the oracles of God and quote the Bible ? It clearly speaks of “ grieving of the Holy Spirit “ whenever we commit sin , specifically when knowing that we are doing wrong . Where does the Bible speak of “ prolonged “sinning ? The only place that comes to mind is a place in 1 John 3:4 -6 that reads as follows , "Everyone who makes a practice of sinning also practices lawlessness; sin is lawlessness…whosoever abides in Him does not sin ( does not keep on practicing / perfecting sin / continuous present tense ); whosoever sins has not seen Him , neither known Him .”
I would guess that they learned this from experience. It makes sense to me that there is a difference between sin which is accidental or which is repented of quickly, and that sin which is knowingly engaged in and takes place for a long time. In the former, the there have been few opportunities for repentance, and in the latter, many. Christians can't expect to be perfect, but we can expect to repent. So it does make sense that the length of time it takes a person to repent says something about his faith.
Definitely untrue to say Doug is the only one. Until James disagreed with the current crusader drama, he said everything Doug said. Just because James doesn’t agree with Wolfe isn’t reason to disregard all the stands he has made against the culture. James is a full on theonomist, just disagrees with Stephen on his version of CN. Stephen doesn’t help with his loud mouth and James doesn’t help with his loud mouth. But claiming Doug is the only one, is just patently false. There are few, and that’s a major problem, but it isn’t Doug all by himself.
Well said Joel . Steven gave up the battle of his heart against lust , that's where he stopped fighting first . And it seems like older leaders in the church are threatened by younger guys who wonna take things further than they are willing to . I guess we'll have to be patient .
That's because most pastors aren't biblical. The Bible commands that those who are elders/pastors who commit grave sins and continued to be exposed to the church for the sake of the church. God commanded that by exposing publicly, he wanted the church members to know FEAR (1 Tim :20). I understand that the modern day lawsuits and sensibility prevent public exposures, but God's command does not take the Church's finance or humiliation into consideration. He publicly humiliated the Church in Thyatira in Revelation because of their tolerance of Jezebel. For two thousands years, that church was ashamed for it's lack of discernment.
@@Guineaster Look at the state of Christianity in America. A communist nation like China is more of a "Christendom" than the US. Abortion, porn, drugs, etc. are illegal there. Look at us. 1,700 years of Christian morality and in the 20th century we became the worst exporter of abortions, porns, drugs, and everything decadent. These are symptoms of the lack of FEAR of the Lord.
I have always been concerned about the "Conference" epidemic. It seems that is now the major emphasis in the modern Church. One conference after another.
James 2:13 - For he shall have judgment without mercy, that hath shewed no mercy; and mercy rejoiceth against judgment. Luke 6:36 - Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful.
A good reminder to have a group or few close Christian friends for prayer and accountability. A person can hold important positions of trust, yet without a few people to confide in, he/she can be very much alone. What is boomer theology?
Galatians 6:1: “Brothers, if anyone is caught in any transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness. Keep watch on yourself, lest you too be tempted.”
“Has not passed over the reformed house” The idea that Calvinistic soteriology makes one Reformed is strange. Most in “the reformed camp” have little to no ecclesiology, little to no sacramentology (a huge point in the reformation) irrecognizable covenant theology (for the baptists) what does this supposed “reformed” camp retain that makes them Reformed?
There are dead men's bones in every pastor's closet. Some more decomposed than others. If we only knew about them probably not one would be in public ministry.
Joel, would you mind sometime explaining with practical examples of biblical leadership? As someone who was raised more by my mom, and had little involvement from my dad, it would be great to hear real practical examples of true biblical leadership!
You need Joel Beeke for that! Biblical leadership according to Joel Beeke begins with leading family worship daily and role modelling Christ day in day out at home. Nothing wrong for a woman to do that in a home without father or if fathers won’t do that? I often wonder why Paul praises Timothy’s mother and grandmother for shaping his faith through their teaching and example? But never praise his father? Most likely, it is because nearly all Christian men sinfully refuse to lead just like Adam who let his wife take the lead and then blamed both God and her. No wonder Joel states here the lack of spiritual fathers in church including the lack of godly fatherhood in pastors & churches, sadly.
Anyone in the ministry of that level as Steve Lawson or other authority figure, needs to be held accountable to a group of others that in return can check into any aspect of his life. This is how we can be protected and kept out of trouble.
I am going to tell that this moral crisis starts from the reformed herectic view about marriage, divorce and remariage which is 99% on the protestant world pro remariage.

10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
Matthew 6:14-15
14 For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:
15 But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses
Amen
Dr. Lawson is the recipient of the same grace. He is just no longer qualified to be an Elder.

@@Abiding_Home very grateful for you.
13% here. I listened to the entire podcast and found it to be fruitful. Thank you for this important conversation.
5 years of deception- never going to challenge the culture and put your head above the parapet! Stay pietism and the flock will just love your intelligence 🤦
Great episode!

"dear Lord, can you help me understand this?" Or if he says something you like, stop and tell him "I like when you said that."
Let Jesus feed you.

It's both brother, Jesus gave pastors and teachers to His church for growth and edification
Don't be sad, didn't God DECREE for this sin to occur?? -Calvinism teaches this. 🙄🤔🤨
Is the host suggesting (at about the 9:45-10:15 time stamp) that Lawson was never saved to begin with??
It that's true (i doubt it) then he was a master deceiver! - and deceived all these other "men of God ".
Happy to be a part of that 13%.
I do wonder if rock star ministry may be a key part of this problem. Never ending travel, away from wife and family and local elders and close friends.
Yes I would like to see Lawson's phone history
You are absolutely correct , secrete sin and fear!
Great video! Thanks Joel.
And according to the elders of his church he’s unrepentant and asking them not to judge him by his actions that are disqualifying for an elder.
42 minutes?! Is not nearly enough time to take in and enjoy the complete meals you serve Bro! I could handle an hour and 42 or more to be sure.
Praying for y’all …love you guys!
Excellent job brothers!👍
Keep fighting- election day approaches.
I love Pastor Joel!

Thanks!
@@haroldwalma255 very kind. Thank you!
James as in James White??
If so, he is not a theonomist

Well said Joel . Steven gave up the battle of his heart against lust , that's where he stopped fighting first .

I guess we'll have to be patient .
We go to a
Good church but take advantage of excellent speakers and conferences because we want to grow in knowledge and truth.
Thanks for talking about Steve Lawson, I wish more pastors would be doing so.
@@thomasc9036 I agree. Even someone like Dr White, who I’m sure has his reasons, I think should have said at least something
@@Guineaster Look at the state of Christianity in America. A communist nation like China is more of a "Christendom" than the US. Abortion, porn, drugs, etc. are illegal there.
“Has not passed over the reformed house”
The idea that Calvinistic soteriology makes one Reformed is strange. Most in “the reformed camp” have little to no ecclesiology, little to no sacramentology (a huge point in the reformation) irrecognizable covenant theology (for the baptists) what does this supposed “reformed” camp retain that makes them Reformed?
These fellows tend to talk and put people into groups. That is what the current govts are doing. How are you going to be different? Just be careful.
Are you putting these people in the group of people who put people into groups?

Doug Wilson's dear Dawson series is helpful
Anyone in the ministry of that level as Steve Lawson or other authority figure, needs to be held accountable to a group of others that in return can check into any aspect of his life. This is how we can be protected and kept out of trouble.
