  • Feeding and nutrition on a long open water swim are key to being properly fuelled. Taking in the correct levels of energy-giving food to complete the challenge can also assist recovery. Having looked into it, I have realised that I have been massively under-fuelling for my long training swims, so I decided to test different types of carbohydrate-heavy food and try different ways of carrying the snacks (fuel)

Absolutely *LOVE* the water bottle idea! So simple and solves a real problem. Brilliant. Brilliant. Brilliant!

Hi Alan, thanks for watching. I took inspiration from your bodyboard feed table. It's only really for training when I have to be self-sufficient, but the bottles work really well. I especially liked the ease of having a drink. Couldn't believe everything stayed dry in the snack one, even though I've obviously got wet hands. Popping the energy snacks in in a jumbled mixture makes it easier to get the one you want/need by shuffling the bottle about! Am now experimenting with different quickly absorbed items. How's the training going?

Let me know how you get on with your food investigations - I’m struggling to find what works well. My biggest disaster so far has been nut based cereal bars... My training was going well but a holiday and then subsequent sickness bug has led me to being quite unprepared for Windermere in a week. I’ll be praying to the weather gods for some northerly winds :)

I was really interested to find out how you carried this- I wear a wetsuit so can’t shove snacks down it! 😂 the water bottles look like a brilll idea!, thanks for the video. 🙂

Thanks for watching Wendy. The bottles work a treat, as does extending the tow float away from my body.

Great ideas! My problem is that I don’t carry any food or water and I always end up suffering. You’ve given me a lot to think about. I think I also need a new tow buoy too.

+Patricia Powers I’ve found that it helps me feel better both during and after a long swim. Good luck with testing out your nibbles options!🏊‍♀️😀
