    This controller was formally known as the Hydrawise irrigation controller. This will be part of a Landscape Contractor Pro Series. I specifically choose this sprinkler controller because of it's contractor platform capabilities. As a residential controller the Hydrawise unit definitely comes in as one of the top contenders for the wifi controller market. However, in my professional opinion the Hunter Pro-HC is by far the best smart sprinkler controller for contractors.

    ADVANCED FEATURES
    TOUCHSCREEN INTERFACE (PRO-HC)
    The Pro-HC controller has a full graphical touchscreen interface, which makes programming with or without Wi-Fi connectivity and manual starting from the controller a breeze.
    PREDICTIVE WATERING™ ADJUSTMENTS
    Daily schedule adjustments based on local weather data monitor past, current and forecasted temperature, rainfall, humidity, and wind speed. This allows for adjustments of watering times and schedules to balance water savings with water efficiency for plants.
    FLOW METER DETECTION AND ALERTS
    Monitor your piping and sprinklers with an optional flow meter. Receive automatic alerts when a pipe is broken to prevent property damage.
    WIRING DETECTION AND ALERTS (PRO-HC)
    Pro-HC controllers continuously monitor the electrical current flowing to your solenoid valves. If the current is too high or too low, Hydrawise will alert you and tell you which valve is not working properly. This allows you to correct a failed valve before damage is done to plant materials.
    ADVANCED SENSOR PORTS
    Two general purpose sensor ports can be used for many different functions. Sensor port works with the Hunter HC flow meters, the Hunter Clik sensor range and standard rain and soil sensors to stop irrigation. The sensor ports can also start an irrigation cycle. This allow you to create custom starts based on sensor readings.
    HYDRAWISE EPA WATERSENSE APPROVED SMART WATERING
    All Hydrawise compatible controllers connected to Hydrawise web-based software are EPA WaterSense approved Smart Watering Controller. Hydrawise Predictive Watering™ allows the controller to adjust schedules based on forecasted temperature, rainfall probability, wind and humidity to provide the maximum water savings you come to expect from a Hunter smart controller.

    Thanks for the video. I’m wanting to switch from my RainBird ESP-Me to the Hunter Pro-HC and this helps to take a lot of the mystery out of it.

    Nice work on the video, great to see some of the scrolled 6:38 text info, to emphasize safety.
    It was good to see the video section on being safe with the 120-volt power, when you shut off the circuit breaker.
    I am using the same Hunter Pro-HC, and it's working well.

      I have installed dozens of those controllers and manage at over a dozen with our landscape business. The app is awesome for a variety of homeowners and it’s super easy as a contractor to use. I can manage from off site or use it as a remote on site.

    Thanks! Which is smarter? This controller or Rainbird ESP TM2 or this? I’m wanting better real weather input. I think I requested this model but the TM2 was delivered.

    • @ThriftyGarage
      @ThriftyGarage  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I prefer the Hunter Pro HC (Hydrawise). As a contractor their platform is better for managing multiple controllers. The Rainbird ESP TM2 is targeted towards homeowners. I have a separate video on that controller.

    I know its a small thing, but the manual does state not to power up until all your zones etc are wired up.

    • @ThriftyGarage
      @ThriftyGarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ve never had an issue. But if you are a novice it’s a good idea to connect power last to prevent accidental connection with the wrong wires.

      I put mine in today, and it works great. Although, I did connect power back to a breaker in the fuse box so I can isolate if necessary.
      Cheers

    My touchscreen failed. Hunter seem to think it’s from power surges. So protect the unit from those if you get power outages and such.

    • @ThriftyGarage
      @ThriftyGarage  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I’ve seen a lot of controllers fail from lightning strikes. We installed a new Pro-HC and the next Spring it was dead. Probably power surge. We replaced it under warranty for the customer. Only issue I have seen in the dozens of Pro-HC controllers I have installed.

    No romex connector for your high voltage connection ??

    • @ThriftyGarage

      It's a plastic enclosure. There isn't any risk of a short to ground. I'm sure it would have looked nicer but it functions well.

    I can’t find comparisons. Why did you pick the pro hc over the residential indoor HC version (aka 1200i). I was back and forth a lot and think the only difference I can see is the pro hc build difference is weather proofing and ability for 24 stations etc. or a more contractor level unit while the plain HC seems to be the same version, just not weather proof and capacity of 12 stations. (I only need 6).
    Especially where you installed it indoors too.
    I’d love to know your reasoning for one over the other. Thanks so much!

    • @ThriftyGarage
      @ThriftyGarage  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Determine the number of stations you need. It's a good idea to have a few extra for future growth. Determine install location; indoor or outdoor. They if you do the smaller indoor you will likely see a small cost savings. I generally do the larger outdoor controllers because as a contractor the cost isn't as big of a concern and it will meet the customers needs no matter the application.

    • @ThriftyGarage
      @ThriftyGarage  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The indoor 600i and 1200i have the same programming capabilities and app but the connectors are not very good. The ProHC has traditional contractor grade screw connectors. For a one time install it might be worth it. But it's not good for reconfigureation or multiple wires connected to the same terminal. Plus there isn't much roof at all for wiring consolidation. It's much easier to perform a professional clean wiring job on the Pro.

      @thescibsters2049 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thrifty Garage thanks! I’ve researched both exhaustively. Just couldn’t find comparisons.
      You make great points. However if I’m a single home residence with one program running just 6station/zones one after the other and done. Is the HC a solid choice or do you still think I should get the pro hc. I guess for $20-40 more pro hc may be better. I just won’t use 90% of its capabilities. Thanks again for the quick response!

      Never mind. I just ordered the pro. 12 in case of expansion. Wasn’t much more and you made a lot of great points in installing ease. Thanks again!

    what is the distance between the two top screws of the new Pro-HC? I am trying to replace my old Hunter Pro-C and want to see if I can use the same screw holes on the side of my house. I measured 7 1/2 from the top 2 of the Pro-C

      Looks to be about 7" on the Pro-HC.

    Do these come with a plug or is that a separate purchase?

    • @ThriftyGarage

      Most controllers do not come with the plug. You need to buy the pigtail separate. 🔌

    Why not just Upgrade the ESP ME Front Door and add Rain Bird WiFi LNK Module for complete remote access in seconds and much lower cost ???

    • @ThriftyGarage
      @ThriftyGarage  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I prefer the Hydrawise app over the Rainbird app. I've used both and that's simply my personal preference. IMO the Hydrawise is better for contractors as you can set up standard zone types and apply it to all jobs.

  • @berthaduniverse

    No Romex clamp or anchor staples to start, so none needed on the upgrade... Lol!

    Huh? Never seen one this complicated!

    • @ThriftyGarage
      @ThriftyGarage  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If you are looking for ease of use I’d consider the Rain Bird, probably the ESP-Me3. The ProHC is complicated to set up from the controller but excellent from the app and has excellent remote control of the system from the app.

    Why do you skip zones

    • @ThriftyGarage
      @ThriftyGarage  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      When I was setting this up only parts of the yard had sprinklers installed. I prefer to have the system run from one starting point and each following zone to be adjacent. This is not only orderly but also makes seasonal adjustments and maintenance easier. After installing more sprinklers in the yard there were no more skips.

    This system is straight trash! Eventually the Wi-Fi drops, the touch isn’t as good when you initially installed. It’s frustrating to deal this product,bhyve is way easier to control on the app

    • @ThriftyGarage
      @ThriftyGarage  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We have installed dozens of these units. We have found they work perfect on the sprinkler systems we manage, especially if the controller is located in a garage or other secure area. It is the best controller with both client and contractor access. While there may be better Wi-Fi controllers for a single user this is what we have found is best as a landscape contractor. I agree, the touch screen is not ideal which is why we only use it long enough to enter the Wi-Fi name and password and do the remainder from the app. When installing a non Wi-Fi controller we usually recommend a different controller.
