Aspen is made up of four mountains: Aspen Mountain (Ajax), Aspen Highlands, Snowmass, & Buttermilk. Ajax & Highlands have mostly intermediate, advanced, & expert terrain (Blacks, Double Blacks, & Blues), Snowmass has all terrain, with some wide Blues & Greens (has sections of Blacks, Double Blacks too!) & Buttermilk has bunny hills, approachable Greens, Blues, and a section of Blues and Blacks off the Tiehack lift! All the mountains are accessible via the free city bus through RFTA.
In last year's Aspen vlog, I wrote the next paragraph in the video description and after reading it back, so much has changed in the best way! Did my Bachelorette in Mexico, got married in Banff, Canada, and went on our honeymoon in Bali! It was such an epic year! I feel like I had post-wedding/travel/peak-life-event blues the past few weeks now that 2023 is done and we're in 2024! We were able to make it back to Aspen December 2023 which was sweet! I went down my first blacks way before this trip- it happened in the Mammoth vlog where I got my own ski boots and it was a game changer! I still haven't hiked the Highlands Bowl but it is still a goal of mine. Before this year's Aspen trip, I got my very own skis that I bought used. I went with the Blizzard Black Pearl 88 width and 146 cm in length and it is my favorite and helps me ski anything. For reference, I am 5'3". I also got a ski bag and ski poles! So got the full travel setup down and it's such a game changer. I no longer have to deal with the ski rental process which causes so much friction during the trip. Now I can just get on the slopes and scan my pass. We renewed our IKON passes this year. Overall, it felt so good to progress in my skiing abilities. I'm still a beginner intermediate but I can't believe I used to ski 124 cm skis. I'm so glad I listened to Knox who told me not to buy skis and keep renting until I got better. I don't think I will outgrow these 146 cm skis for a while, so for my level of skiing and my height, it will work well, although I have tried the 152 cm skis and I also like them.
-- Already dreaming of my next trip back to Aspen. Most likely will be 2024 since we've got the wedding and honeymoon this year! Plus my bachelorette before. :) My goals Aspen skiing will be going down my first blacks, definitely want to check out Aspen Mountain, and one day I want to hike the bowl and ski down. I also want to level up my ski length and type. These baby skis (124 cm) get very rickety when you're going fast and don't do too well in powder (it floats way less than powder skis) so I want to definitely keep leveling up! --

January 2021: my first trip to Aspen was January 2021 and it was also my first time skiing as an adult. I went once in 7th grade to Big Bear, CA. I did one bunny hill, didn't know how to stop, and never went back out. My first trip to Aspen, I did a first time private lesson and two group lessons. I wasn't vlogging back then but you can see highlights here / 17890727806862055
