- The IKV 73 in War Thunder is an event vehicle available through Operation S.U.M.M.E.R that is going on right now.
The IKV 73 is a Swedish Premium Medium Tank. It's got a very slow velocity 75mm cannon, less armour on the sides than a cheap IKEA desk but it's pretty mobile.
This Swedish Tank sits at 3.0 and is practically identical to the tech tree varient, the EH. If I was to name this tank, I'd call it the MEH. The IKV73 falls victim to Gaijin's BR system. I don't think it's a good enough tank to warrant its 3.0 BR and even at 2.7 it could still struggle, specifically in uptiers.

OddBawZ, You may say you hate it, will never play it again, but you certainly rose to the challenge with the IKV 73! Well done indeed. The close ending and final five minutes at 29:30 had me wiggling and cheering your entire team.
Interesting fact: the 13.2 mm machine guns are good because of HE filler. HE filler is not common below 20 mm (mg 151, hispano) but the Swedish are somehow able to make filler rounds to their machine guns, so it's basically like firing Minengeschoss shells from machine guns. After the war, when they bought p51s, pilots are liked the performance of the mustang, but not so much the 50.cals, because they are a step back compared to the
13mm-s.

2.7 is a heap of fun. It brings back your motivation to play. Seal clubbing 101.
Pretty sure you'd enjoy the IKV 73 a lot more in arcade. The Strv m/42 EH is really fun in arcade and frontal bounces a fair amount of enemy shells at that BR. Just have to remember to start with the APBC round and finish off the target with the APHE once they're disabled enough to get an easy side shot.
I agree it is somewhat underwhelming in general though. I much prefer playing the Strv m/41 S-II. It's much more durable in the battle rating and can scout.

I slowed down that encounter with the British AEC spaa, you definitely hit center of mass with that shot, not the fuel tank. I've had some issues with that myself and it seems to be happening more frequently
Also that thing bounces a lot more shells than it should, maybe something to do with it's damage model.

The Swedish 13.2mm guns fire HE shells. So they're akin to a smaller size 20mm autocannon. They have a good rate of fire as well. They're recorded being very effective against aircraft. Only a few hits were usually enough to take out normal size fighters from what the tests show.

IKV is short for Infanteri Kanon Vagn, i.e. Infantry Gun Vehicle. Its designed as a support vehicle for infantry and not for fighting tanks

The m/40b shot is so much better imo. Same ballistics as the solid shot but much better shrapnel
typical Russia player. gives them enough room to fit a T95 through and they still choose to ram into you trying to squeeze through a tiny gap because they don't want to slow down just a little bit to get round. smooth brain maneuvers

Hey Odd, or if anyone else can answer this question, how do you control your plane while looking around? I only have the freelook button set up, and I look around with my mouse, which is the same way I control my flight.
@@alichinogaming6089 I like the idea of setting right mouse as freelook. That is kind of what I meant, I think mostly I didn't realize then that he was using freelook while controlling the plane, I would have the mouse directions and key directions interfering.
The swedish 75mm is very hard to use, it punishes you every time you dont shoot center of mass
Why were you using just the normal stock AP rounds? The upgraded APBC round is better and has improved angle pen; its wayyyy better than the stock round.
I have the worst luck with APBC. The rounds seem to never be on my crosshair when I shoot it. Then, the more I fire the worse it gets.
@@OddBawZ Odd. The shells shrapnel way better when they hit as well. Maybe try it out again with a comparison to the normal AP shells.

I think both the EH and the Ikv 73 should be 2.7 at least. maybe even 2.3 when compared to the Lee or Pz III J1 or T-127. They're quite similar to the T-28E. The main difference being slightly better penetration with the solid shot round and better mobility, but worse survivability and worse reload rate.
We desperately need the Pvkv III and IV.
Sweedish tree is there to challenge our patience if you manage to grind to rank 5 then you can succeede in life , you might even have a chance runing for the upcoming us elections .

This thing has a gun roughly between a Short barrelled german 75mm and a 75mm M1897, why doesn't have a 4 sec reload.

Easily penned by reserve tanks, beat on reload and damage/pen by everything at its tier, and decent mobility. This tank could be 2.3, still weak at 2.7.

This tank is op in arcade. Easily gets 5 or more kills time after time.
I feel like they should add an AI objectives (like a system of pillboxes or a battalion of infantry) to make infantry tanks like this more viable.

Swedish low tier is just suffering. After like 2.7 that APDS round bounces all the time and that reload on tanks literally gets me killed.
Also that AEC AA has better armor than a PZ IV, at least in WT.

Finished Rank 2 with the Swedes. Then i had enough with the ''target undamaged'' all the time. You cant even reliably sideshot most tanks above 100m. As you can see in the intro. And IF you pen, the shells do nothing. Not sure what they did to the AP rounds, but I remember the British AP being much more reliable.
Its kind of a shame. I was really interested in the Swedish tree. There are some unique looking vehicles there. But apparently there is a reason why there are unique. They are mostly garbage :/
This what happens when you build tanks that never actually serve in conflict. They look good on paper and fill out the ranks. But are never modified for the realities of war.
@@kirishima638 That might be true for the real ones. But there is no excuse for them to be bad in a video game. It was their decision to give them the BRs and the ammo selection they have. Yes give tanks more pen, better reload or more horsepower (within reason ofc) if it makes them more fun or playable at least. I know there would be people screaming again, that this wouldn't be realistic. Because they still think WT is a realistic tank sim and not an arcade game. But I would choose gameplay over realism everyday.
@@sheepwars2959 Oh I agree 100% but have long since given up trying to fathom Gaijin's BRs and 'balancing' decisions. There is only ONE thing that matters in this game: speed. If you have a fast vehicle, you can cap first, get in and out of engagements quickly and run circles around everyone else. Even if you have a shit gun, you can make it work.
That's why you have BT-5s, M22s, R3s, M18s and Pumas in every battle at every tier and they always do well. All other vehicles exist to be fed upon.
@@kirishima638 Best example for their ''balancing'' ist the recent update to give all high tier tanks HEAT-FS as stock and increasing the price per shot up to 600SL again. How are you even supposed to kill shit with the enemies having apfsds and chemical protection way north of a 1000mm?
@@sheepwars2959 Using SL to balance vehicles makes even less sense than BRs. There are whales with millions in the bank who wouldn't notice - I'm a casual player and even I have more SL than I know what to do with.
