Hey Odd, I had the same thought of using the Achilles to try and deal with the Russians. Like you I discovered it was fairly lackluster. From what I've heard it sounds like the problem is that most tanks don't have volumetric armor. So lots of armor models incorrectly have overlapping armor in pixel width lines. When shells were pixel sized ,the odds of hitting said spot was quite low, but now that shells have volume it is very likely to hit one of those spots. One glaring example is the Pz 4s front plate, it went from being easy to pen with a 104 mm pen Sherman gun to being quite tricky because you'll hit some BS pixel. The T-34s and KVs definitely benefited the most however. I don't have much hope that any of it will get fixed, because Gaijin would need to invest the money to remodel most tanks armor. And we know that isn't a thing they would do.

M3 Stuart was able to pen that hatch and that stuff under the barrel of T-34/76 that bounced Odds shot was also easy to pen... Not to mention how they added magical amortization to T-34, before the best option was to make a shot in move and then stop as T-34 was rocking back and fortg almost as long as Italian tank destroyer on low tier so you would be almost able to finish reload of new shell in that time.
Even before the change, when I used capped 17 pounder ammo in test drive and shot at the Panther, it never penetrated the front plate. In the armor analysis, of course, it says it should go through no problem. Game is just F'ed up.
Few people know that the T-34 usually had to stop to fire so that the turret would not fall off. Additionally, the hatch in the front fuselage jammed on average after a week and the crew climbed in through the turret. In addition, a direct hit, taken on this hatch, caused it to fall inside and tear off the driver's head and legs of the loader and the gunner.
Something very satisfying about achieving a one shot with AP. It's different than APHE or darts. Something so nice about the feeling of your shell just plowing through the entire enemy tank and crew. You know you earned that kill.

Dear Od Gaijin could just say , Idk implement a similar thing to warzone but Instead of number of players on a team you would have presets for a 3 vehicle slot battle. Or 1 vehicles slot battle. Alternatively you would say have battles that have a cap limit . So you would have 3 spawns max and take away the mechanic for respawn points . This solution adds a new game mode , and solves a really stupid problem. This allows newbs to have way more leniency and keeps players in the game. Another thing is the spawn camping , this is my idea for gaijin , make it that certain types of tanks spawn at different spots in the map , so light tanks forward , medium in the middle and heavy/td In the back . Also if the enemy team moves forward then just push back the map position. Therefore take away the cap zones and it will be a tug of war , new mode that would bleed tickets from time in a zone.
I've been playing this all weekend. Another thing why it's better than the M10 is that the MG has a higher pitch up like the M24. I key it to fire independently of the turret speed and have shot a few planes down, then reset it to go back into place.
I remember when the kv1E was in the russian tech tree I even unlocked and spaded it but it disappeared some years back and it honestly makes me mad it was my favorite kv1 to us
Really wish you could do missile convergance on planes. So wasteful to have to yeet 1 of your missiles whenever you go for tanks. (I know some planes fire 1 after the other)

Hey odd I have a story from the other day it was me in a church 3 and a random church 1 and us vs 2 kvs and i got 1 and critted the other but he got me then out came the backup church 3 and we won that heavy tank engagement took up the whole match
Really don't like how we already have so many inconsistent game mechanics (hull break, HE/HEAT/HESH damage, ammo not going off) and now we have volumetric shells that seem buggy.
@OddBawZ - After watching alot of your videos you seem to try and shoot down CAS with the mounted .50cal like most people. But are you aware that by pressing F5 you can control just the .50cal and even have optics for it! I found this out and it made shooting CAS alot easier. Hope this helps. (Press F3 to go back to using main armament, coaxle and .50cal).
Totally agree, funny enough it’s how I found out as I wanted to use the 20mm for its purpose. Been even trying the “drivers view (F9)”. I do appreciate your CAS abilities, have learnt things from your play style. Lucky double F2 strike with rockets 😋btw .
Odd I have question for you; if you could add two modern (Cold war - present) vehicle for each type (aviation, Army, Naval) for any country(s) what would you add? (It doesn’t have to fully fit the game) Also great vid keep it up 👍
The volumetric system was exciting but I'm sorta bummed out with the state of some vehicles armament. Did they change anything else like lower the performance of some AP or APHE rounds as well?
Just finished grinding trough the achilles and oh gosh, the premium version is definitely better. The techtree version have only 2.8 degree of turret rotation speed. 3.2 or something like this with improved horizontal drive or whats the name of that stuff😂. And the premium version looks much agile. Turning better and reversing faster, atleast its look like.. The difference can be bz my crew is not skilled as yours? After all its still such a pain to play with that turret 😂. Was a nice session and the video was epic. Good job✌️

the low turret traverse rate is fairly accurate, due to not having a electric turret drive was only hand cranked.
I still run my Achilles with my 4.7 lineup - great gun and a great vid too!

Yeah, but I hate the stupid blinding flash from the gun and I also like to see my tank for scale purposes! :) It works well with KPZ-70 20mm though.

you should play the ikv 103!! It has heatfs at 5.3. Pretty fun vehicle!
